Are Print Books Dying?

  • According to Pew Research Center, 65% of Americans have read a print book in the past year - a print book! So if all generations prefer print books even as our lives become more digital, books can’t be dying, right? Well... it’s complicated.
Books hold so much information - from history to religion to cures to whole imaginary worlds. People of all ages read to learn new skills, to gain knowledge, or to escape. And reading - which we’ve been doing for over 5,000+ years - is one of our main modes of communication.
But as more and more people turn to digital forms of sharing information, where does that leave the physical, printed book?

I read somewhere once that " books are as much threatened by ebooks as stairs by elevators "

LOL....No! Ebooks were a nice little novelty that will always have devoted followers, but physical books provide so much more complete of a sensory experience over digital. I had a Kindle, but I very quickly found that I did not enjoy reading ebooks at anywhere near the level of a physical book. After five years of sitting in a drawer with a dead battery, I finally got rid the Kindle last year.

I would say that they compliment each other’s, e-readers like kindle and iPads are hard to beat when it comes reading on the go, no way I will lug around 500 books when I go on a road trip or get on a flight, but I can do that with e reader. When it comes to reading at home, then physical books are the best, but I still find myself use e readers if I want to find and jump to a specific part of a book as there is no find button in physical books lol

Look at what they are doing to digital books. They dare to “correct” great writers for their ‘politically incorrect’ words and views like Roald Dahl and Mark Twain.

This video's amazingly edited, researched, voiced, everything! This is the type of video that I'd expect from a professional RUclips channel with over three million subs. Do you use Premiere to edit? I might have to steal some tricks. 😎
Anyway, I prefer physical books but that's largely just preference, if I'm impatient and can't wait for the book to arrive or go to the library/bookstore I'll buy the ebook in a pinch. In 30 years we'll probably have data inserts but I think I'll still prefer physical books.

Thanks! I mostly use Premiere for the more basic cuts, but anything that’s more graphic-based, I move over to After Effects which, when you learn your way around it a bit, allows you to do a lot more things visually.

@@zacksexplainers (Hope you don't mind me pestering you with questions)
So basically, your process is throw everything together into the timeline in Premiere, then do all the visuals in AE?
Do you have an estimate on how long it took you to edit this video in particular? I've noticed a lot of your videos have this sort of editing.

I hate E books. They have their ups thats for sure but its counter intuitive for me. I read typically an hour or 2 before bedtime. I do this because its proven white light produced by screens lead to poor sleep so i have a screens off rule 2 hrs before bed. Its improved my sleep 10 fold. It also looks sleek having a book shelf full of books amd you can always lend them out, or donate to a library or used bookstore. Ill never go to e books when i can buy a physical book. 5

I mostly feel the same way! I think if anything e-books not really taking off reveals the space of our lives that we’re not willing to give over to screens
