- Presenting a full compilation of a journey from Guwahati to Kolkata, combining the Kaziranga Express till Malda, and subsequently the Gour Express to Kolkata. Enjoy the lovely morning crossing of the Brahmaputra, a blistering overtake by the Dibrugarh Rajdhani, the magnificent station of New Bongaigaon, a rapid run to Alipurduar through lush green fields, the teeming rivers of Torsha and Teesta, and an even sunset date at the Barsoi curve. Major crossings include an overtake by the Dibrugarh Rajdhani, brilliant Malda WDM3As with the Kanchanjungha Express and Balurghat Siliguri Intercity, Howrah WDM3A with the Arunachal AC Express, a horribly late running LTT Guwahati Express, the North East Express, the Kolkata Guwahati Garib Rath, and the best of the lot, Andal WDM3A with the Yesvantpur Kamakhya Express.
Guwahati to Kolkata is 1000km, a long shot for one driver. Do they change train driver after 8 or 10 hr?
That unique chugging sound of an Alco, as it frets and fumes while notching up.......aah it’s pure bliss. Love the old faithful workhorses ALCOs, and feel sorry for them as they are now in this day and age made to haul long 20+ coaches and match the later generations of Locos in speed and haulage, you just feel a small sense of sorry and sympathy for these old workhorses....my heart goes on for ALCOs but the piece above the neck prefers the later gen locos. This dilemma and dichotomy......

If you watch the journey of NDLS-HWH POORVA EXPRESS VIA GAYA by the same RITADHI CHAKRAVARTI you can see that The HOWRAH RAJDHANI (S)were seemed 3 times .(1)at first, at DADRI, while overtaking POORVA (2)again at ALLHABAD (PRAYAGRAJ)JN. in xing (3)and surprisingly at the next day afternoon around MADHUSUDANPUR (HWH BWN CHORD).

The railways have put all the ALCOS in the eastern region far flung from the major cities of the country. Few EMDs were seen. One train running 8 hours late, that is criminal. If it was a steam locomotive, I can understand, but not with modern technology involved, that is unacceptable. Travelling public cannot be made go through this.
