personally it depends on what version you play, I only play on jp since I understand the language and en does akitoya a heaping disservice; the translations physically pain me to read For me at least anhane are on their honeymoon phase and akitoya are just chilling out as the old married couple It's fun to see how the senior aibouship and junior aibouship help each other out with each relationship's growing pains in a sense.

Maybe later down the line when they're less codependent and Mafuyu realised her feelings, she could see that the warm feeling shes had with Kanade this entire time was a romantic feeling, not a gal pal roommate feeling. EmuNene is my 3rd favorite ship in Project Sekai. Nene's relationship with Emu is so different compared to Rui or Tsukasa and its just adorable. Theres an area conversation with Nene, Emu, and Rui in sekai where Emu is making faces and Nene is genuinely laughing while Rui says something like "Well, this is a side to Nene we've never seen" ITS SO ADORABLE I CANT. Majority of my favourite EmuNene moments are area conversations, but it makes them feel more natural to me. ShizuAiri are married. Thats it. Thats my opinion. (Main story is everything) AnHane is the best ship. Straight VBS ships have weird dynamics to me and it feels more unnatural than AnHane or AkiToya. (AnHane card set for An5 lives in my head rent free) EmuKasa is fine as a romantic relationship. Nothing special, nothing terrible. But as friends? Incredible I kind of like RuiNene since i love childhood best friends, but A. There are better ship for both of them (in my opinion) B. I have Leo/Need to play with and C. Tbf Akitoya is very similar to Anhane in a lot of aspects: I could write an essay about it but I don’t really have the time nor the motivation, let’s just say that for how I see it, the “partner pairs” were probably written to be ambiguous on purpose. They rarely refer to each other as simply “friends” (in the jap version at least, I’ve noticed that EN has a bad habit of translating “aibou” as “buddy/friend” instead of “partner/singing partner”, which is something that while I can understand, I will forever be salty about LMAO), but they aren’t exactly romantic partners either. The partner pairs give each other pieces of advice on how to be stronger together constantly, for example, it’s partially thanks to Kohane and An’s input that Toya and Akito were able to make amends in the main story, and in a similar style, Toya and Akito go out of their ways many times to help Anhane’s rocky relationship during the events. When you think about it, the partner pairs that we know and love probably wouldn’t have been as strong if not for the help of their counterparts. It’s quite sweet and truly shows why VBS are stronger as a team rather than two separate duos. An and Kohane have more moments that could be read as romantic, that is also very true, but for how I see it, Anhane are still in their honeymoon phase: their partnership is very fresh and they’re still getting to know each other and learn how to work together in the process. Emu is also just normally happy when she’s talking to nene and nene is happy when she’s talking to emu, rui and tsukasa got detention because tsukasa almost got blown up (HOW?????) so when they were going back, nene told rui to take their time and they don’t need to rush because she still wanted to talk to emu more (nene initial 3* side story)
