I was in Quanzhou in 2016 for the International Wuzuquan Federation conference. My favourite moment of the trip was when our group were training in the park beside the hotel early one morning. This elderly gentleman walking by stopped to watch. Bear in mind that in Quanzhou they rarely get Western visitors and they are tickled to see Westerners. But they are really delighted to see Westerners practising the local martial art. Anyway, this gentleman quietly watched and when I finished my form, he gave me a thumbs up and said: "Wuzuquan. Hăo!" I was so chuffed that I just bowed to him and he walked away. I wish I had taken a photo with him.
This Sifu really generated a lot of power in his form, and he seems to be humble and good natured, this is a great series and oh man was the pole demonstration impressive. I was curious where he developed his forearms.

Very good video, thanks for sharing. But at the begining, I don't think the statement is the correct understanding. Five ancestor fist is a composite style of fujian white crane, taizuquan, luohanquan, and monkey style. Doing single repetitive techniques like kicks or punch for thousands times is better than training kata, ive tried it in kyokushin before with my pal we ditch the kata training and intead focusing on punches and kicks we become much more better in sparring
I am a Kyokushin karateka like you. At the dojo, there are times when we want to spar and focus on drills, and our teacher obliges, but he always makes sure to make us have at least one session dedicated to doing kata every few weeks. We even do bunkai for the movements in the katas, which is rare for most contemporary Kyokushin schools that teach kata for students so they can advance to higher belt ranks. He makes us do this because he says we must not forget the traditional aspect of Kyokushin Karate, because if we did, there would be no difference between us and kickboxers in terms of fighting. It is the katas that make karate, well, karate. I am not saying you should not focus on sparring and training drills - they are certainly what makes Kyokushin the art it is today - but you should not neglect kata completely. It will certainly be a refreshing change from all of the padwork, and who knows, maybe you might learn something new about the art we practise.
Very interesting. I always assumed Bai He and Luohanquan preceded Wuzuquan, and that it was a synthesis art. I guess your theory is that it was “split apart” at some point.
