1.Stop judging other people (Replace judgement with appreciation and respect the people around you speak)
    2. Stop waiting for the opportunity to come ( why wait? Opportunity comes our way when we are ready)
    3. Stop avoiding interactions in English (Jump in every opportunities to speak and interact in English. Always say Yes!)
    4. Stop with the ridiculous expectations (Dont expect yourself like a native speaker. Start with realistic expectations)
5.Stop Procrastinating (Don't say you are busy. You gotta do it. Make it a priority)
    6. Stop with negative self-talk ( Instead of dwelling on those negative thoughts replace it to a positive one) Affirmation
    7. Stop consuming too much content ( knowledge without application of that knowledge is Lost) Learn and apply.
    8. Stop making native speaker your north star
    9. Stop passive learning of English (Reading out loud, conversation, focus on active than passive English )
10.Stop comparing yourself to others (Appreciate yourself. Do only things that motivates you and lift you up)
The lists above are my non-negotiable. Thank you Ms. Hadar for pointing out my hindrances in learning English. It feels like we are having one on one session everytime i watch you videos! Again Thank you!

I absolutely agree with the number seven. Because of the quarentine I've been watching a lot of videos in English, and at first it was okay because I can be aware of the sounds that sometimes I don't understand , but at some point I got really overwhelmed and as you say: if you learn a lot and you don't put it in practice all the time that you spend whatching those videos is completely lost. Anyone else?

Usually i notice the language mistakes of my classmates when they ask a question or do a presentation. But, i never thought of it as judging until i watched the video. I thought it was a good practice to correct others errors so i can learn and master the language. It looks like i have been holding myself back from achieving my fluency goal. Thank you so much.

    • @hadar.shemesh
      @hadar.shemesh  4 года назад +3

I think being aware and noticing things is one thing, and it’s not a bad thing. Thinking less of the person making those mistakes or criticizing them for it, is another thing. So it’s ok to notice it and correct it in your head, it’s unavoidable. As long as you are accepting and compassionate a long the way to them and to yourself ❤️

You gave me an answer to why I couldn't improve my English, though I have spent a lot of time and energy. I was just in a comfort zone and mistook consuming content as a practice. Thank you so much, Hadar. You show me the way where I have to go. I really appreciate it!!

I am constantly working on not comparing myself to others. To me that's the root of all other evils like judging others/myself, procrastinating etc. We were programmed to compete with others, it's hard to re-wire your brain to stop doing that or knowing when it's healthy to do it and when it's not.

    Hello!!.
What you said in this video, it seemed that you were talking about myself some time ago!!. After being part of your incredible community on Facebook and then, taking action and being part of your course Accent Makeover, I've been experiencing all activities which making me feel really uncomfortable!!. At that time, I realized that you learning process was making a positive and constructive impact on my weakness and limits. Step by step, I started to get used getting out of my comfort zone. Here I am after nearly 8 months and being aware that I feel more confident and fluent. It's gonna take time of course, but I can become even more clear and confident!!!. Thanks with all my heart 😁😁

    Hadar, the impressive inspiration,
A good lecture is a rare opportunity for a non- native speaker: but one can improve English by the help of this school of English teaching, Hadar. One may keep engaging oneself in the language learning processes, irrespective of whether one is close to having command of English or not.
Admittedly, there is no perfection and what is perfect does not exist. On judging, we Muslims have a great saying: "Don't judge so that you are not judged". Jesus Christ.
Anway, Thanks for predicting breakthrough in English learning process in months. However, your Hebrew is very good; naturally, it should be for being your mother toongue. Thanks for serving a good cause.
    Best wishes from Islamabad, Pakistan.

That part about consuming too much content was a cruel but yet needed to be heard truth. I tended to think that my English must been improving from day to day as long as I understand mostly everything that I watch in English with no subtitles (movies, shows, RUclips), but about a three months ago I had to face the fact that I am not moving forwards in general, but only improving my listening skills. I am introvertive person and sometimes it is challenging to communicate even in my native language, but I started to record myself and afterwards analyze my speech. And I also started to talk with my cat - but I feel that she doesn't understand my English (probably because of some pronunciation issues)) Thank you a lot, it's not easy to stop binge-watching your videos, but I'll try to do my best in order not to decrease potential effectiveness

Is it really that we never will get advanced level and become fluent in English because we haven't went to a native English country !😪 and how to achieve that !
    THANK YOU TEACHER 💛

Bilou Mellah I became fluent in English well before I traveled abroad for the first time. Nowadays we have access to videos and to the whole world through the Internet. You can have classes on-line with a native speaker (or with someone like Hadar, who talks like a native speaker). You can listen to audiobooks, news, movies, and surround yourself with English the whole day. Reading helps a lot, too. Find someone you can practice your English with, no matter if you’re paying for classes or what.

I'm going to start putting the things I learn into practice for real! And most importantly, I'll stop to avoid communicating with native speakers because of this fear of not being understood by them or even the ideal of a non-existant perfection that it's in my head. Thank you for the tips, Hadar!

Thank you for your great advices. I should take any opportunity to comminucate with in English. And I should recognize that English is a second language for me and should speak in relax condition. Most important thing is to comminucate with.
