The accent question and follow up is one of the best moments at any panel I have ever been to I laughed so much not at the follow up question but the moment between the guy asking it after the accent question
When Buffy ended, it was like, Oh well we still have Angel, we still have this universe, then when Angel got cancelled, it was the true empty feeling that I would never see these characters again. And that created insane withdrawals. I grew up with these characters and 22 episodes a season is like triple the screen time versus shows today. That was a lot of Buffy/Angel content that was all of a sudden, gone...
To be honest, when Angel got cancelled, I always thought we would eventually get a spin-off and that the franchise would continue on with new characters and new shows and occasional visits of old characters. It is insane to me that FOX let the franchise die even though it was so lucrative to them.Maybe better than having it drained to death like The Walking Dead, but surprising nonetheless.
I don’t think Angel would have gotten drained out the way TWD did. Actually Angel ran 22 episodes a season so 5 seasons divided by 22 is 110 episodes and Angel kept getting better where as TWD started getting stale around the same episode count and Rick and other main characters leaving or getting killed off just hurt the show. I’m a huge Angel fan and TWD fan but Angel had way better writing.
Not been in episodes done by Joss? Not really. He was in Joss-directed episodes like "Hush", "The Gift", "Chosen", "Lie to Me", "Becoming", "Restless", "Family", "Who Are You" and "Once More With Feeling." He also went to Shakespeare readings at Joss's house various times, him picking up a guitar at one of these helped inspire the musical. It is kinda weird that he acts if he hadn't worked with Joss / known him well.
Yeah. I think it's embarrassing that a few cast members just took Carpenter's grudge as a signal to help blacklist someone who thought they were all awesome and gave them careers. I like James, but he should be more clear that he had a positive working relationship with Whedon. There were no accusations of crimes or actual abuse, so there should be no reason to act like Whedon's reputation should be forever sullied by people he thought of us friends, maybe even family. 😢
@@TamaraKane Did you not see what the cast of buffy has said? Saying "Joss didn't do anything wrong" , is a lie. now to how much , damage he did is up for debate but he isn't innocent ...
Great interview. He's such a fun and thoughtful guy. I really appreciated his thoughts on Joss Whedon. I don't see what Joss did that was cancel-worthy. He says he didn't call Charisma Carpenter fat, and hearing him speak so kindly of everyone, I don't know who to believe on that, but if that's something he did, it's really minor. We're not obligated to get along with everyone we meet on a deeply personal level. Perhaps they just had creative differences. He wrote some excellent storylines for Carpenter and kept her on his shows until the very last season of Angel. She kept working for him. I wish it was water under the bridge between them so we could all enjoy the entertainment with a bit less of the bittersweet real life drama diminishing the excellent work that was done. All cast and crew should be proud of what they accomplished, regardless of personal gripes. No crimes were committed. I hope we can all move on.
You wouldn't see what Joss did. That's the point. People who are good at emotional abuse know how to "be good" in front of the right people. If the threshold for allowable behavior is "no crimes were committed", wow that provides a LOT of room for people to treat people really terribly. I hope you get treated much better than that in life, because that's what we all deserve.
@@RachMonPhoebs Thanks, but he hasn't been accused of "emotional abuse," aside from the claim that he called Charisma "fat." I'm sorry, but knowing what I know of Joss Whedon, it doesn't just seem hard to believe. It seems false. He says he didn't call her that and wouldn't have and I believe him. I have no reason not to.
@@TamaraKane He has been accused of abusing the cast.... of Buffy , did you not hear what had happen with Michelle Trachtenburg? He wasn't allowed to be left along with her on the set. He Threaten James Masters pushed him against a wall and said to his face that he didn't want him around, and that it was only down to persure from the fans that James was able to stay in the show
@@michaelhawkins7389 so, obviously the clickbait headline smear campaign confused a lot of people. It's frustrating. The studio said there was no rule against Joss being around Michelle. She lied. She made it up. Now, background for that is that she reportedly had a crush on James Marsters. James wrote a song about the unwanted attention called "Dangerous." There are videos of him singing it on RUclips along with lyrics about her always staring at him, going to his band's shows, looking at him the wrong way, flirting too much, etc. So, it was written that Joss Whedon took her aside at some point to advise her not to continue flirting with adult cast members as it was creating an uncomfortable set environment. Michelle's mother got upset about Joss giving her daughter safety advice, so SHE said Joss could never speak to Michelle alone again. However, Joss wasn't ever fully alone with Michelle as California state law prevents ANY adult from being alone with any minor child on set. The studio confirmed that Joss never broke this rule and that there were no complaints about his conduct around minors. Not ever.
@@michaelhawkins7389 as for James Marsters, he has lovingly told that story about Joss "threatening" his fictional character "Spike" at conventions for years. He didn't ever say he was assaulted, and in fact has said the opposite. He said that while Joss was serious at the time about killing off the villain that was Spike, as that had been written into the storyline far in advance, that obviously that was understandable as Spike was supposed to be a villain, not a love interest. Joss Whedon is such a softy, though, and he cared about fan response and the evolving story, and he liked James Marsters so much, that he obviously kept Spike alive for years and years, spanning two shows and over a dozen comic books and graphic novels. James said that when Joss "shoved him against the wall" he was not injured, and has since said that it was playful camaraderie on set. Like a fake wrestling move or something. "You're dead, kid!" was a silly throwaway comment about Joss intending to go through with the original plan for Spike to die. But, he obviously didn't even follow through with the fictional threat to the fictional character as Spike remained a main character and love interest for Buffy for several more seasons and was made a hero on both Angel and Buffy after overcoming obstacles in his villain arc.
Same! Thank you! Joss did nothing wrong! I'm done with the rest of them until they apologize for letting a friend and mentor be blacklisted over petty grudges from someone who said she couldn't work nights and weekends anymore on a night time vampire show.

I would SO watch James play D&D!!
he's perfect as that bad ass vampire. legend. problem is for a brits from Bristol he is abnormally way too forgiving for Joss whedong.
wtf James is American , what has Bristol or being british got to do with anything?
Joss didn't do anything wrong as far as any of us know, aside from having a failed first marriage which he admitted to and apologized for.
