Hey Woody and Gus This is from the dive team friends at Bonne Terre mines ( Amanda, Steve, Gavin and *Rob*) We really enjoyed having you guys at the mine, gave us an excuse to break out our rebreathers and do some fun long dives. We are usually on open circuit for our regular dive trails so this was a nice change of pace for us. For me especially, it gave the opportunity to meet and dive with the awesome Mike Young ( you guys were good but let’s face it we poor mortals can only aspire to the skill of a Mike Young ) Let’s us know when you want to come back with DPV’s. There truly is so much to see, the place is just massive. I’ve been diving at Bonne Terre since 2005, and very regularly since 2015 and I only feel like I’m just now starting to figure the place out. You really have to keep in mind this is a mine not a cave. Although the skills you hone in cave training come into action some of the automatic assumed notions of how things fit together in a cave don’t translate to mines especially regarding directions. The mine can be very disorienting and without proper site specific training it’s way to easy to get yourself in serious trouble. Look forward to diving with you guys in the future 🙂🤿
Hey Gavin! Thank you sir. As you can see on the video we absolutely loved our visit and diving with you guys. We can’t wait to be back and DPV dive with all of you, and Mike Young. 😄
@@DIVETALK Hi I hope you see this: A channel called "Jiggin With Jordan" purchased a personal submarine that is essentially a large SCUBA system. He doesn't know how to fix it and is crowdsourcing his procedures. I thought you might be able to give him some good advice. The first video regarding the submarine shows the inside and where all the SCUBA tanks go and how it just uses a large air bubble for ballast. See ya guys! Love your channel.
Truly enjoyed reading this comment! I have never been cave diving (let alone in a mine) but watching this video and seeing how professionally and safe this was all conducted really gave me hope that one day I could aspire to do the same. We grew up in Imperial, MO. We went on a group tour through this mine as a kid, in the early 80's. Beautiful! Thank you for letting us land dwellers see this part of the cave system. 🥰
Both of my great grandfather's where lead miners, and at one point both of them worked the Bonne Terre mine. Pretty awesome to get to see the place at one time they worked.
Gus, you guys look fine...you worry way too much about trim. That's for people who have nothing else to worry about. Once you have a camera, you have something more important to care about.

Guys- out of all the videos on your channel- this is the most interesting and engaging. Really well done- all of it. Seeing all that old mine infrastructure and the tools they used was really cool. Watching you guys dive is amazing- the trim is really precise; the way you frog kick along so gracefully and never stir anything up (well, almost never)- really cool to watch. And of course, watching Mike is like watching underwater ballet- I think that dude has gills. Of all the ppl I've met on you guy's show, him and Ed are the most impressive to me. If you guys go back- film it, trust me- you want more of this on your channel.
I don’t even dive, BUT the camaraderie that you two share is such a positive, interesting, entertaining and wholesome viewing experience. You two are awesome!
AH! I'm so happy you went to Bonne Terre! I did the walking/boat tour several months ago, and it was incredible! It inspired me to want to learn to scuba dive so I could explore it underwater. (I still want to !) It's so immense and beautiful, made me think of the Mines of Moria (LotR, lol !), and unbelievable that it is under an entire town! It's a manmade wonder that few people even know exists. I can go on and on about how incredible it is, but will just say I recommend visiting this mine to just about anyone, not just divers.
That looks like an awesome place to train or certify in. Lots to see, routes to explore and a relatively safe environment. Downside I guess is how long it'd take to clear if it gets silted. Also noticed on their website dives there can count towards becoming mine certified and presumably would/should count for becoming cave certified. The staff divers also were awesome.
When they jokingly ask Mike for his certification card for the kiss rebreather 😆 The people that run the Dive seem really nice and the dive site itself looked absolutely awesome. I did not think the water in a mine would be air clear like that 🙂

Mark Twain, Walt Disney, Jesse James and Harry S Truman are just a few historical people from Missouri. Missouri is the birthplace of musical genres Ragtime, Jazz & Blues. Missouri is known for their toasted ravioli and BBQ. Missouri had the first successful parachute jump from a plane. Kansas City Missouri is second to Rome in water fountains. Missouri is known as the Cave State. That’s just a couple of known facts about Missouri. I’m glad you guys enjoyed your trip here.
There is a Lexington in MO too used to hate crossing the bridge there with semi truck. KC native too this is a video I've been waiting for. Visiting Bonne Terre mine has been on my list.
I love hearing how disoriented and lost you guys were on the first dive. Keeping your sense of direction underwater is so different than in the air. I have often wondered what it would be like to walk around in the open air wearing a giant bubble that only let you see 10 or 20 ft in any direction. We take for granted how much we use long line of sight to orient ourself and choose which way to go.
Oh my god this is the second "real life" video I have watched from you guys and I really love the content. Usually I can never focus on such a long video, but Woodys sense of humor really makes it. And Gus's reactions to the jokes of course
Have fun. How amazing witnessing a part of history that most of us wouldn't know was buried underground underwater. And yes I Love trains I come from Philadelphia and I rode the train everywhere even took a train from Philly to Florida I'm a train nut.. I just think it's so cool that you guys can do that
That mine is unbelievable! The amount of space just at the surface is truly amazing; they could have food joints/shops down there, maybe even sleeping quarters. It could be a whole vacation experience, I feel like. I'd want to just sit on the dock, honestly. So awesome!
I'm pretty sure, I won ... years ago! I've done dives here in my wet suit days (wish I had my drysuit in those days). Did it in October, '92 with a group from a dive store. Well worth the drive from Toronto.
Well done Gus on reiterating the importance of a stable platform when placing that arrow. That was my biggest pitfall when becoming a tech diver. Still occasionally need to remind myself to slow down and fix buoyancy or position first before continuing with a task.
That was awesome guys loved it. Thank you for filming it. As a non diver it's great to see something I would never experience. Great respect to your skill level.
They should make a line with flexible arrows built on every 5ft or so to save hassle of having to add them yourself. Could be made of a strong luminous flexible material that wouldnt perish easily like a strong nylon. Would save so much hassle and more people would probably use it too. Maybe you could design and make one under the DiveTalk logo and have your logo on the reel 👍
So cool that you guys made it to Missouri to dive the mines. I completed my open water training there and was blown away by the clarity and cool factor of Bonne Terre Mines. I think training in cold water with heavy exposure gear and lead makes you a better diver, early in your diving career. I haven't made it back to the mines to dive again, unfortunately. It's only 30 minutes from my home, I need to get back for sure. Keep up the great content.
I’m not a diver not ever tried to dive even as a tourist. However i really enjoy your content and adventures not to mention how you guys analyze everything and professionally and wish you all the best with your channel. You’ve earned a subscriber :) good luck 👍
So 😎 cool, not a cave diver and never will be but do enjoy watching it. My blood pressure would definitely be lower with you guys and Mike with me on the dive. Amanda and the crew were great!
I was stationed at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri back in 1999. It’s about 45 minutes from Springfield. We used to rent a boat on the weekends at the Lake of the Ozarks to go waterskiing. That was a lot of fun. I don’t think I could ever cave or mine dive. Just the thought of it makes me feel claustrophobic and trapped; glad y’all got out safely.
This is going to my top videos. I loved it! And Woody diving through the particles after Gus and your commentary made me laugh so much… I needed those laughs, thank you 🤗
I'm absolutely loving this! I just found your channel a few months ago and loving that you take us on your journeys! Another channel that I've been watching about a year or so is called Abandoned and Forgotten Places, a guy named Gly explores old Abandoned mines, dry, so to see you here is like combining the two channels together! Btw from watching Gly's channel - the "big rooms" in a mine are called ballrooms and the "holes going down" can be a few things, a winz (probably spelled that wrong) a shaft/man way, or an Ore pass 😁 Thank you again for this video!
At first, i came here for the reaction videos, but man, i love your dives video so much, Bonne Terre mines are mind blowing, and the silence allowed by the rebreathers made it so eerie... the hour long video seems like minutes.
Started watching for the reactions, but videos like these are my favorite content you make now. Gus and Woody you guys are so naturally comfortable and funny together, and it really makes videos like these work. More please! :)

Mike young seems like he's super helpful during a dive. Just watching him help woody with the glove gives me that impression
Well done Gus on reiterating the importance of a stable platform when placing that arrow. That was my biggest pitfall when becoming a tech diver. Still occasionally need to remind myself to slow down and fix buoyancy or position first before continuing with a task.
Wow, the clarity of the water is unbelievable. It looked like you were floating, not diving in water! You two are like Ying and Yang 😂
That was awesome guys loved it. Thank you for filming it. As a non diver it's great to see something I would never experience. Great respect to your skill level.
I dove 5 times at Bonne Terre last month and was absolutely blown away by how much fun it was…even with a 7mm being…a little cold… great video guys!
Also, I drank a bunch of that water lol
@@undpossum damn
They should make a line with flexible arrows built on every 5ft or so to save hassle of having to add them yourself. Could be made of a strong luminous flexible material that wouldnt perish easily like a strong nylon. Would save so much hassle and more people would probably use it too. Maybe you could design and make one under the DiveTalk logo and have your logo on the reel 👍
I knew something was up with the way Gus said "we're staying at the Four Seasons"!! I had a feeling it was gonna be something like that hahahha
This place looks amazing. There is something about flooded mines that is super fascinating to me. Great footage! 👍🏻❤
The water is crazy clear!
I’m not a diver not ever tried to dive even as a tourist. However i really enjoy your content and adventures not to mention how you guys analyze everything and professionally and wish you all the best with your channel. You’ve earned a subscriber :) good luck 👍
Guys this was legendary, great watch, thank you!
My great grandfather worked in this mine. I still have small ore samples from his garden.
There's also Meramec caverns cave diving over by Missouri and Ar. Crystal clear visibility and lots of cave formations .
So 😎 cool, not a cave diver and never will be but do enjoy watching it. My blood pressure would definitely be lower with you guys and Mike with me on the dive. Amanda and the crew were great!
What a banger of a video! Thanks for sharing your trip with us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
More Woody and Gus dives please! So interesting and fun to watch
This is going to my top videos. I loved it! And Woody diving through the particles after Gus and your commentary made me laugh so much… I needed those laughs, thank you 🤗
Gus and Woody together makes my ❤🙂
I'm absolutely loving this!
From going to this state called Missouri that no one has heard of (lol) to this magical dungeon...Just awesome!
Woody: The middle of absolutely nowhere..."
Gus: " It's not always five stars."
Woody: "This isn't even on the map." 🤣
I'm just wondering no disrespect I love the show But is woody gay or something or is he just awkward and weird lol
That was such an awesome video! Loved seeing the process and the briefings, super cool!!
"There's another city in Missouri called Uranus. They make good fudge". F'kn Gold! 😆
At first, i came here for the reaction videos, but man, i love your dives video so much, Bonne Terre mines are mind blowing, and the silence allowed by the rebreathers made it so eerie... the hour long video seems like minutes.
Very cool! Newfoundland has some pretty awrsome flooded mines also.
Started watching for the reactions, but videos like these are my favorite content you make now.
Gus and Woody you guys are so naturally comfortable and funny together, and it really makes videos like these work.
More please! :)
