    Laura, you are teaching me and others so much with your videos. I must confess I once felt very intimidated trying to pronounce the scientific names for the plants which caused me to stop gardening when I was very young. Silly I know. Now later in life I learned it doesn’t matter, just enjoy the plant. Thank you.

      It’s my pleasure to help, Carly! 😀 There are many gardeners that will only use the botanical scientific names. And there are even some gardeners that will scoff at others using only the common names. I respect using the botanical names but I roll my eyes when gardeners start to get an attitude if someone uses a common plant name instead. 🙄😂 Even plant breeders realize that common names are helpful - that’s why they spend so much time coming up with catchy names! In my videos, I do my best to give both names but if I can’t readily pronounce something - I’m ok with that! I am SO glad you returned to gardening! ❤️🌼

    Red is my favorite color in the garden (next would be orange~that Totally Tangerine, wow! ) and we have both Red and Coral Bark Japanese Maples that really look great all winter long. There are a few different color heaths here too that are coming back nicely after I hard pruned them (this garden had almost no care for five years) The Heucherella you showed would be a nice compliment. All the bulbs are starting to show their tips of green and the crocuses and mini daffs are blooming. I love the seasons!

      Oh my goodness Jean, your garden sounds wonderful! 😀 ❤️ Bringing back a neglected garden is a lot of work but it sounds like you are well on your way to having your efforts result in something you can enjoy! 🌼👍👏

    The only color I have is my Anna's Red Lenten Rose. My purple's come out in the Summer with my Butterfly Bush, Iris & Lavender. Love your Winter Heath and your Pigsqueak. Thanks for showing us. Happy Gardening.

      Hi Linda! I think Anna’s Red is so pretty - and it was the first variety I listed in the video. ❤️ I love Summer purples too, as they have a soft, cooling look when it’s super hot outside. 💜

    Love your garden specimens, especially the beautiful heaths! I always thought my zone 7 garden would be too hot and dry for heaths and heathers, but will definitely have to try some. The bright cranberry of Mahogany Monster heucheras and lovely Hellabores are year round showstoppers in my garden. Could not do without them! 👏💫

      Thanks Paulette! 😊 These heaths need a decent amount of water or they will dry out, so just keep that in mind. Even after many years of growing them, I almost killed a new one in a too-dry spot last Summer and will need to move it. 🙃🙂 Nice to hear about Mahogany Monster as it looks like a stunning plant. ❤️ And with hellebores - you’re so right about them being year-round beauties! Enjoy them!

    I love waking up in the morning to a video from you! Thanks so much for passing along your knowledge and experience as I am a new gardener and need all the help I can get. Love these plants and I have some shade areas to fill so i wrote everything down and will do my homework on which are good in shade to part sun! Thanks again!, Stacy.

      My pleasure Stacy! I’m so excited for you beginning to garden because there’s lots of fun in choosing plants for different areas and being outdoors enjoying what you’re putting together. (Unless it’s 465 degrees with humidity!) My advice is to go slowly and enjoy every part of the process. 😀 And feel free to ask questions! 👍

    Hi Laura 🌺. I have most of those in my garden and love the colors. I also love your mittens!

      My mittens say thank you Shannon! ❤️ They were a Christmas gift from my husband one year, and are so warm . . . except for my fingertips on freezing days. 😂 Glad you have these plants and colors in your own garden - I bet the colors and plants are very pretty right now! 😀

    Hi Laura! I have a few purple and red flashes in the garden. Some little bergenia starts made it through the winter, and my dark red hellebores are putting up blooms. Crocus flowers are just about big enough to be eaten by the deer.😅 We had a lot of damage from our January deep freeze, but spring is coming. Soon we'll have daffodils, flowering red currant, primroses, rhododendrons, all my faves. Will definitely keep my eyes open for Peppermint Patty, thanks! Looking forward to seeing your garden wake up!

      Hi Susan! I bet your dark red hellebores really stand out right now! I need to cut the old leaves off of my hellebores soon, but the ground is still too wet and I don’t want to crush bulbs. 🫨 Your Spring garden faves sound beautiful - definitely something to look forward to. 🌼🌺🌸 We had 60 degrees and a rainstorm yesterday…this morning it’s sunny but only 33 degrees. 🙃🙂

    Uh oh. I was planning on buying a ton of crocus bulbs this fall until 🐰. Thanks for telling me.

      Oh I went through three years of the rabbits at their worst. Last year wasn't an issue . . . perhaps the local foxes were more active last year! So far, so good this year! But yes, I do sprinkle Repels-All around when I can. The first step is making sure squirrels don't dig them up after planting. Then the following Spring...the rabbits. So much for my intended sea of crocuses weaving all through the garden bed. It's more like a small creek that's drying out! 🤣 But when you see even one...it is SO pretty!

    Hi Laura! Your garden is always beautiful no matter what time of year. During Winter I just admire all my evergreen arbs in containers. My hellebores are in full bloom now & all my coral bells in containers look amazing vs those planted in the ground. My daffodil & hyacinth bulbs are peeping out. Just curious if you ever got the creeping phlox for your garden bed. ❤

    Thanks to you I have 5 x Kramers Red in the front garden, as well as a clump of geum Totally Tangerine. I have killed bergenia several times, maybe I should try the PW variety.

      How are your Kramers Red doing? I hope you're enjoying beautiful color on them! 💕I'm always happy to be a plant enabler! 🤣I have my Bergenia in a partial shade bed, and it gets afternoon shade which seems to help during the brutal Summer heat. How do you think you've killed bergenia in the past? (Just curious, as I always like to learn what works or doesn't for fellow gardeners...)

    • @mariasmith6438
      @mariasmith6438 7 месяцев назад +1

      My Kramers Red is utterly gorgeous, not as big as yours but just covered in blooms and really standing out in the surrounding 'brown-ness'. As for the bergenia: I have had it in shade and both times it got smaller month by month until it disappeared. Maybe *too much* shade? I have clay soil so maybe too much winter wet?? Just havent been able to figure it out...

      @GardenSanity  7 месяцев назад

      I’m thrilled you’ve got the stunning magenta color! 🩷 Once they settle in, they will begin to fill in before you know it. Your description of the bergenia getting smaller sounds like some geums I planted in the backyard that are shrinking. 🧐 I can barely see them, meanwhile the same variety in my front yard is fine. 🤷‍♀️ Too much shade for bergenia wouldn’t be the reason… perhaps the roots got too much wet like you said. It’s like a puzzle to figure out the solution!
