Lol my homework was never actual "home"work, as soon as my classes ended I would go straight to the library, do all of it and then I could do whatever I wanted for the rest of the day. Same thing when studying for exams, library was my best friend :)

Andrea M at uni that seems impossible. sometimes my homework is service based, so I have to patronize some sort of other institution or business to collect the data I need. I hate the way it steals away my time. :( and most of my homework consists of essays that take hours to just gather research, and then typing is another crazy battle. I never feel like I have enough adequate research, so I pass between research and writing constantly. it's intense.

1. Schedule yourself such that you *deliberately create pressure* to work on homework fast, though effectiveness varies. That's what Theodore Roosevelt did though.
2. *Hard-start, jump-to-easy technique* : When starting on a few problems, start with the hardest one, and if you get stuck for a while, skip before to the easier ones. Dr. Barbara Oakley bases this technique on her claim that diffused (and creative) mode of thinking is inspired best by a previous bout of diffused thinking.
3. Always copy down the *example problem* in class. You may feel that you understand fully how to arrive at the solution when you are in class, but that's not quite true. To prevent yourself from fooling yourself, copy it so that you won't forget.
4. Do homework in a *productive environment* . This can be your school, public library. For some, it can even be their own homes.
5. *Preview your assignments after each class* to erase the lag-time experienced later on at home, when you forget what to look out for in your assignments before staring on them.

It's not _impossible_ for me to work at home, but I do notice that I work significantly slower at home than I do when I'm in the campus library.
I've scheduled my classes a couple hours apart from each other just so I can force myself to stay on task, keep focus, and do all my work so when I come home, you best believe I'm gonna nap without worries.

I never struggle with my homework until self quarantine. My school is just homework
Well my "doing homework" technique is simply doing a half as soon as i get home and then finish the other half later at night or maybe if there is a period allowed until the deadline comes i can divide the homework on this period so that i don't exhaust my brain and still can benefit from it as much i can.
For me, I do my chores when I get home, then homework for an hour. Then I play Overwatch for 20 minutes. I finish one task, then another while chilling with Netflix. I finish the last one before going to bed.

I fucking hate math at least usually its so complicated but seriously whenever I get into flow state working on a bunch of math probs I feel so calm and relaxed its pretty ironic how good my mind feels
Yeah - math is one of those subjects that so abstract and complex that it's almost certain to be unpleasant if your'e trying to work on it in an unfocused state of mind. But once you focus in on it, it can actually be kind of fun. And finally solving a problem is really satisfying, at least for me.

I’ve been on RUclips for 4 hours trying to figure out how to do homework and I probably could’ve finished it in those 2 hours and be asleep but instead I’m up at 2am watching videos.
A trick for my math homework is to find the general solutions to the specific problems I was asked to solve. I'd get columns of derivations that I had to make and, rather than solving each one at a time, I'd create a general purpose problem which contained all the possible components that the math problems could have and then solving for that general problem.
I even showed it to my math teacher and he was okay with it, provided that I showed in my notes how the general purpose problem related to the specific problem I'd be trying to solve.
Because I eventually understood the general purpose problem so well, solving the specific ones was very easy. Meanwhile, I was also able to detect when a specific problem did not adhere to my general purpose problem anymore, unlike other students, so I was quicker to take a step back rather than attempt to brute-force the equation.
This also works for other subjects, but it works best when solving equations. Helped me a lot during business courses too.

I can’t make a schedule because I have 4-5 hours of homework a day and I try to be happy. But that requires me staying up all night doing homework.

I have an assignment that was due 2 weeks ago and my teacher gave me extra time so I have to turn it in by tomorrow at 3 pm but I still haven't started it because every time I think about it I have a panic attack. I'm going to fail.

Luckily my school has Study Hall which is basically just a time to finish homework.
Back then they didn’t have distractions like phones or the internet. Now it’s so easy to get side tracked.
Thomas I love your channel and eventhough I am not in college anymore your tips and lessons still help me in my daily life. I come from school at 1:30am , have my lunch at 2 and do math till 4. Then I choose a subject and study till 6 before I pack up for classes. I return at 8:30 having no time left for homework and assignments. If I sacrifice my sleep , I feel tired the next day which messes up its time table . What should I do so I can study as well keep my books complete?

Do you have any videos on studying for things over the long term (basically learning bew stuff without forgetting the old)? Whether it's standardized tests (SAT/MCAT etc.) or studying for stuff like midterm and final exams? I've always struggled with more cumulative tests because I tend to forget the material from earlier weeks.

Your channel is the best channel! Really I've become such a disciplined person thanks to this techniques. Studying engineering in animation, making comics, youtube, social life and self-teaching myself korean. My boyfriend respects my space but My number one struggle is family and friends. I have a hard time saying NO, because I feel like I should give them one afternoon every single week to each of them. They interrupt me very often even If I stay in my room without going out, and there are many things (such as help with a hurt bird or anything that seems as important). Interruptions are hard for me to recover from, although I try to use the 5 second rule by Mel Robins to get back on, still I feel I stop being as productive as I was before them coming in. When there are too many of those events in a row I even start getting in a bad mood and less motivated. So I guess I should start going to the library more often, listening to your video! Sigh Do you have other tips though?

Build the "saying no" habit, it was hard for me at first too. Very hard. But then I made a rule saying that if I'm even thinking about whether I should go out w friends or sit at home and study I already know what the right answer to that is. I sometimes even think of it as putting my priorities before others'. It's a hard decision to make but once you've sat down for 2 hours and completed your assignment instead of going for dinner it feels REALLY GOOD.

Do you have tips regarding reading comprehension? I constantly struggle with being able to read something, process it, and then actually REMEMBER it! I continue to read and read, but I don't end up being able to truly retain it.
