C5 Corvette - Do C6 Corvette Grand Sport Wheels Fit?

  • So I had a thought about installing some C6 Corvette Grand Sport wheels on my stock bodied C5 Corvette. They are 18x9.5 front & 19x12 rear. Luckily I know a guy that had a set he wasn't using so he let me borrow a front and rear from him to try out. The wheels I was thinking about are off of a C6 Grand Sport and they are a pretty rare set of wheels. I have only seen a set in the wild once and the guy I borrowed these wheels from had them on his C6. They are a pretty cool set. If anyone is thinking about installing these really wide Grand Sport wheels on their stock C5 then I'd advise you consider installing the wide body front & rear fenders also. You'll need it for sure unless you like the poke, which I don't. They would really look good but just not for me or my car at this time. I'll just wait until I can get the wheels I really want, maybe next summer sometime.
    Take care and stay healthy everyone.
    Most of all.....STAY GRAPE!

    I think your present wheels look great! I agree with personalizing your car. Look forward to seeing what you go with later.

    I have them on my 2000 base. they look amazing went with 315's instead of the 325's in the rear no rubbing unless its dropped max on the z51 package. fronts poke a little but when i change tire ill go a little smaller and should alleviate most of it.

      Awesome, thanks for your input. It will come in handy if someone watches this video. Did you need a spacer for the rear to keep them from rubbing the inner fender well? They look like they'd rub a bit.

      Thanks, I'm not going with the Grand Sport wheels because of the poke and offsets are totally wrong for my taste. If I get these style wheels they'll be in the sizes and offsets for the C5's. Aftermarket of course. I do like the silver painted color too, be a little different then the chrome ones I've had on forever.

    Honest Grape,...i like the Apex much more than the grand sport,..but you must have self a good feeling about it,...the SR1 are really good looking. For me is easy to say, i understand you when you say ..to many have them,...succes on youre way to make the right choice.

      Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated. I'm not really sold on the Grand Sport wheels either but just wanted to see if they'd fit without modding the body at all, I'm not happy with what they revealed. So for now I'm staying with the SR1's and probably won't look into anything again until next year sometime. Others have said to keep what I have now too.

    The back wheels are usually a little wider the the front. Could it be possible that you may have the rear wheel on the front and the front wheel on the back?

      Not really, I checked that too before I put them on to make sure I didn't do that.

    I don't always comment, but I do always watch. This was a great subject to address, ie to see if the C6 GS wheels would fit. I like it, but I'm wondering if you had coil-overs if that would help the clearance for the rear wheels as to the A-arm clearance? A set of chrome GS wheels would look phenomenal IMO.
    You were talking that you'd have to get them chromed. Where in NJ or elsewhere would you go to have them chromed? There aren't many places around that do that anymore due to government regulations.
    Good luck in your search for an alternative wheel setup that you really like. Make sure they're chrome though. 😉
    Lastly, I do like the wheels you already have. Save the Wave 👋

      @c5grapeape  Год назад +1

      Appreciate the comments, always welcome. Thanks. 😎👍 I do like the GS wheels and if I did get a set, I'd probably go the wide body set-up with the car. I would also look for a set that was already chrome and so I wouldn't have to worry about getting them chromed. I have also installed the coilover shocks too, love them so far. I still have the chrome wheels on from this video and really like them so I proabably won't be changing anytime soon. I am going to leave the car the way it is for a while.

      I can't say what you will, or won't due. But I'd say that installing a wide body would be more than a challenge and expensive. If you feel you could do it and it's worth the money, GO FOR IT! It would make your C5 even more incredible.

    Unfortunately they don't work without a good amount of poke or you have to go wide body. I looked at a set too bc they're cheap and look great. Have to go with repros to get the right width and offset.

    • @c5grapeape
      @c5grapeape  3 года назад

      Yeah, I agree 100%. Wide body is the only way to make these work. An expense I really don't want to do.

      @c5grapeape  3 года назад

      @@c5grapeape I can understand that. My car is mostly stock so as a daily driver I was concerned about less rotational mass at each wheel for speed or handling. I always consider little performance advantages in almost everything I put on the car.

  • @PNW_Car_Mods

    At ride height they would be even worse. It's amazing how much the wheels tuck at full droop. Probably another half inch of poke if sitting on the ground. Even my 01Z wheels stick out a 1/4 inch or so front and rear. I don't care for it. Love that grandsport wheel otherwise and even though I'm not a chrome guy I think they would look awesome on your car in chrome. Are there Repros in 18x9 and 19x10?

    • @c5grapeape
      @c5grapeape  3 года назад +1

      The ones I have on now are 18x8.5 front and 19x10 rear. The ones I was looking at are true Grand Sport wheels but only made for 1 year and not available to buy from GM when one purchased a C6 Grand Sport, so 18x9.5 front and 19x12 rear. Won't work for me and what I want. Not sure what the aftermarket wheels are in the 18 & 19's off hand. I know they make them but just not sure on the width of them.
