That Yădakk did not upgrade enough, from what I can see. Always go for 2nd upgrade, it's very cheap.
This was a very interesting video. Crazy how much defence bonus matters.
If I was you, I would've propably trained too many archers instead of warriors. But warriors + defence bonus is what made this game.
Indeed. The second upgrade usually costs 6 but returns 5 immediately, and gives you an extra star per turn. It is a payback of one turn. It is almost always a no-brainer.
Also yeah general practice with hood would be to send your archer N and warrior for the center in this game. You would have been able to train an archer on your capital t3 after capturing c2 and used your two units to get that center village without taking damage.
The warrior you trained on cap t3 was a good choice, but I want to go over a scenario you didn't outline here. If they chose to just step on the middle village and capture it only an archer would stop them from doing that. However training the warrior allows you to build a good counter offense around your capital. It's very defensive with the forest defense bonus and something they won't easily counter early game and with how far away they are, you can move your damaged archer back and train another archer on your capital both defended by your warrior that will help you take that village you're skirmishing over.
2:26 on t5 you talk about your lack of army. I think you got rather ambitious here using your second warrior to explore to the south while you have a very vulnerable unit your opponent has had vision on for a few turns on that more central village. I think spreading out your units like this gives your opponent the best chances they could have of grabbing both villages W and S of your capital. Early game like this where you both have special army, archers v roads mobility using brute force and going all in on a single village is much safer than dividing your attention between two objectives. Of course with that risk there's the opportunity for you to end up taking both villages. Though since it's so risky I'd argue you should mitigate that and support your warrior going south with training an archer on your capital.
Good job playing to your outs here, the risky plays you made didn't pay off by turn 7, but you're talking about going for math as your path to victory. With perfect play their yad 100% wins this position, but you've identified your safest win.
5:00 the N city warrior is perfect here, you've got the stars for that exploration.
6:53 good job identifying your biggest challenge that turn was from the clock and not the other player. In future situations like that try to spend less time worrying about tactics with your units, people who are great in fast games don't make perfect moves all the time, they make great moves when they can and good enough moves when they need to. When you're facing pressure from the clock like that trust your instincts and make the fastest move. Your move won't be perfect, but you're gaining valuable time for when it needs to be.

On turn 4 yadak didn't have to kill your archer, he could simply walk into the village

Hey! You played it pretty well! Once I got an explorer and saw how open your capital was I made a plan to siege it and block off the good sawmill spots to prevent a giant push. It was a nice game
Okay, archers are cool, but I want to see a game where shields come in handy! The only strategy I can think of is to make a wall with archers behind it, but maybe using this tech path to get the imposter can apply enough pressure (although the peace contract and embassy are useless in 1v1)
They are super good for stalling as eylon until you get dragons out.
Dragons are so op once you get them out but they literally take 6 turns to mature plus elyon sucks at city leveling.

Hi Gully, could you play kickoo sometime soon? I couldn't find any good (somewhat recently made) tutorials on kickoo, even though it's a tribe I'd really be interested in learning, and other people probably do too. Kickoo was rated pretty highly on a recent tribe tier list somewhere, so a lot of newcomers probably want to learn the gameplay. Would be fun to watch!
Kickoo is unbeatable on archipelago. Just level capital, grab sailing before before taking the second village and level it, then after you have the three cities that are usually on your starting island, get ports and start spamming warriors to put in boats. I usually don't bother taking any other tech or leveling cities to more than level three (wich is done with two fish and a port including trade connection), even if there are three more fish for the city I build the port instead, as I need it for further rapid expansion. Only once I can no longer spend all my stars on warriors do I consider going for giants. When I encounter the enemy I usually have three quarters of the map under control, even if he at that point has as many points and as many stars per turn, it won't last. Each of his cities can only make one unit per turn and can't stand up to the continual wave of boats and ships arriving.
If the fight drags on of course eventually you will want strategy and navigation, on a massive map eventually also trade and aquatism. But in the beginning your mind should be solely on rapid expansion.

@@tigerwxrfare I love playing polaris too. They are very strong, but they have a major weakness in that they are dependend on ice to move, and gaamis are non-renewable.
Be strategic about taking out their freezing units and breaking ice and they are very beatable.
