    Your kids are not too rough. We have the same fridge, all our kids are adults, and the right handle hinge broke in exactly the same place as yours. This is a design defect in the Samsung freezer drawer. This hinge should have been made of metal or at least it should be a replacement part.
    The fact that over 3750 people have watched this video between May 19 and July 24 shows that this is a common problem.
    My concern is that by gluing to the trim piece, eventually the trim will pull out of the drawer panel, but maybe the fact that after gluing, the hinge prevents the trim from flexing, that will keep the trim locked in the panel. Fingers crossed, I will likely do similarly to your fix.

      Agreed, I’m shocked at the number of views. Obviously it’s a more common problem then I would have thought.
      So far mine is holding up well. If it does fail then you bought yourself some time. As I see it there isn’t a lot of downside in trying this as the proper repair is to replace the whole stainless steel front panel, so If this fails you end up purchasing the new panel and you’re no worse off. That’s just my perspective and you need to do what’s best for you realizing that you can’t undo the repair once you have added the epoxy and construction adhesive. Best of luck! Use the correct epoxy and construction adhesive and you will likely get the same positive results I have experienced.

    Great video - thank you. $15 fix worked. Samsung Help Line was useless, as was their SMS/texting option. This video saved me from countless hours of frustration. The only thing I did different was to place painters tape around both areas before using your solution. Made clean up a breeze. What a design flaw by Samsung - should be a metal part - not plastic.

    The screw on the left side came off last night and I looked around it and was perplexed a bit. There was no screw on the handle to tighten or secure it and I did not think to check the right side until I watched your video. Your 3 year old video helped me out! It was a simple fix with an allen wrench. Thanks for the upload.

    Thank you so much for this! It is brilliant. We have this fridge and our freezer handle broke about 7 or 8 months ago. The only replacement option is replacing the entire (very expensive) drawer. Thank you for "paying this forward'. Thought we were buying a nearly identical refrigerator as we left the previous Samsung refrigerator when we moved. Thanks for the fix. I just did it using the clear JB Weld and it worked great. I taped around it to ease cleanup. Waited til after dry before removing tape and in hindsight should have removed tape before full set but it cleaned up pretty nice. I will pass on my latest hint.... those expensive razor blades we shave with. As am amateur material science guy with my kitchen knives I came across a study by JD Verhoeven with micro photos and all. Turns out that dulling of the blade is due to water oxidation NOT shaving hair. So I started drying the blade for 2 minutes right on the nozzle of my hair dryer while defogging the mirror before drying my hair. And VOILA I am currently on my 3rd month of using the same razor blade. Still working like new !!!

    Thank you so much for this. Just curious how this fix held up these last 3 years. Did you have to repair again since? Also, is there a specific reason you put epoxy on the bottom and PL on the rest? Would you recommend just putting PL all around?

    You are spot on, taking your advice and doing the same thing right now to ours. Our's is a $3,500 Smart LED one, only two years old. I've already replaced a right door shelf because the plastic cracked & seems the freezer door issue is pretty common too. So much for Samsung and our relationship, unless I need a big boat anchor. Thank you sir, this helped me a ton.

    Our freezer door right handle broke yesterday, we bought the summer of 2015 from Home Depot, broke in March 2022. We were surprised it is held on inside by plastic and not metal, being it such a heavy door. Our ice maker has given us problems (freezing up and not making ice) on and off since we bought it. Now it is not working, just the water option only. I showed my husband your timely video and we plan on fixing it today. Thanks so much!

      Barbara, we had the same symptom with our ice maker on this Samsung mode. Well, recently, we had a brief blackout in our electricity, and when the power returned, the ice maker started working again. Maybe it’s coincidence, but if we have trouble again, the first thing I’ll he trying is a hard power cycle.

    I used the same JBWeld product, except I mixed up two complete packages, put a couple layers of blue painters tape at the bottom to make a dam and stuffed it all in the hole. After it started setting up I put the broken hinge piece into the void and centered it, holding it in place with more painters tape. For the left side (the side that had not broken, same situation as you) I put tape around the opening leaving just enough room at the top to fit in the tip of the JBWeld superglue and squeezed in two full tubes behind the mounting surface.

    • @Shig1259
      @Shig1259 6 месяцев назад

      So, did you fill the entire void on the right side with the jb weld mixture? Mine just broke the same exact way and I've been hoping and wishing there is some spray foam adhesive out there that can do the job but, I don't think so.

    It’s unbelievable they made it so you can’t get a replacement part and open up the door to repair it forcing you to spend hundreds on a whole new door if you want it to function as it should.
    I had the same thing happen to mine, but with my background was able to figure out a way to brute force it open. Even though that door isn’t made to come apart I was able to use a painters tool and a hammer to open up the top grey plastic part on top of the door. That allowed me to retrieve the other half of the broken “hinge”. I used epoxy to to glue the two parts together and epoxied a metal plate on the backside for extra strength. So far so good. :/

    Mr. sugarhouseshred, thank you for this video. We bought the same fridge, but video door version. This is a massive flaw in the design of this door, ours broke after 7 months. I'm a home builder & have sent this video to all my sub's . Not your kids fault, just extremely bad design (stupid in my opinion). I do a lot of work with epoxy on my granite counter tops, alcohol swaps work great to remove residue for that. THANK YOU SIR.

  • @miulloj

    Same, I just tried. Waiting for it all to dry. Looks like each break is unique, so the use of 2 adhesuves is pretty much needed. Stick with the same products as gray is hard to find elsewhere. We have the darker finish anti fingerprint (supposedly) one. Hope it holds up, so to speak.
    Many of the door shelves cracked and broke early on. Recently replaced the left door's vertical flip seal for about 125, which was an easy swap due to a break at the top. Yes, Power cycling from breaker or plug seems to reset a stuck ice maker from time to time but I've noticed it less frequent if you just use the button on the inner top panel to "ice off" for awhile instead. Way easier, IMHO. Thank you!

    Same thing happened to the fridge my folks have. Me and my siblings are all either in college or HS, and were all such when we got the fridge. Virtually everything that is removable has broken within the few years since we bought it due to the weak plastic. One of the door shelves snapped within the first few months from nothing more than having a milk carton on it.
    It is infuriating, especially when I think about how fridges from the 50s were built to last and now they can't even stand up to general wear and tear from the items it's clearly designed to hold. (The shelf was clearly shaped in a way to suggest it was meant to hold a milk carton.

      Yes, use the epoxy I show first that’s like play dough. Fill it in and smooth it the best you can, then screw the pice that holds the door in. You may want to attach it to the handle when you do this to make sure you have it spaced properly. Remember that most of the area is covered by the handle, so it won’t be too much of an eye sore. The only alternative I know if is paying $350 for a whole new panel.

    So all of have the same exact problem?! @samsung gotta do better. This was poorly designed. Thank you for your video. I think I’m going to do this instead of purchasing the whole freezer door because mine was broken the same exact place as yours. So thank you 😊

    Is it safe to assume the plastic part with the metal in it is not sold anywhere?

    Mine just broke a couple days ago. I have the Lowes protection plan so I called them. Lady on the phone said that it's a cosmetic issue so it's not covered. I flipped my lid and demanded a supervisor. Supervisor said the same thing. I replied I can buy the handle separate so it's not the handle but the crappy plastic hinge that attaches to the handle. A few additional choice words and now a repair is coming over to look at it. Hopefully it just gets covered by the extended warranty. Very faulty design flaw.

      Good luck. They didnt cover mine and the repair guys came out and the extended warranty would not cover it

    We bought a Samsung refrigerator, model RF260BEAEWW in October 2015. The handle broke in November 2021 because the screw holding the right side onto the hinge was threaded into plastic, instead of metal. I cannot figure out how to repair this handle, other than to spend $350 to replace the entire front freezer door. Any suggestions?

      @Jason-gw9iw 2 года назад

      So if I understand the issue correctly you’re saying you can get access to the screw and you can twist it? The problem is it doesn’t thread because it’s stripped? Is that correct? I’m just trying to visualize exactly the issue you’re having.

    How long has the glue lasted? My handle broke exactly the same as yours did. Cheap Samsung product, they need to use metal...

    Is there not a way to replace the broken mounting bracket?

    • @Jason-gw9iw
      @Jason-gw9iw 7 месяцев назад

      Nope, it's not serviceable. The only thing you can do is replace the whole stainless steel front panel that is sealed. Some one mentioned that you cant get the panel anymore. I'm not sure if that's true but you can't just replace the hinge/bracket. They don't sell the bracket and the front panel is sealed, no way to open it and replace it even if you could get the part.

    I can't seem to find the adhesive you used where I live (overseas). Would an adhesive like SELSIL Ultra Tack work? What specs should it have?

    • @Jason-gw9iw
      @Jason-gw9iw 2 года назад +1

      Functionally I don’t see a problem with that product but aesthetically it’s going to look strange because it’s white. Any type of high-strength bond that holds at least 400 pounds should be sufficient if you can find it in a gray color.

    Well here I am. Same issue, same break. Same dilema. Searching and searching and searching for the part. Not on any diagram. Unfortunately, I can't do this because the hinge piece broke in a bunch of pieces. So no epoxy, silicone route for me.. I have hated this fridge every moment of every day for years... Huge POS. I will never ever buy Samsung anything again in my life!!

    Mine kids did same thing it bites you cannot buy a replacement handle/lock and replace it but you have to buy the whole door skin as a whole for $350 buck thin I’m just gonna do what you did
