    I remember reading that he never got over his brother's death. When an old friend of his told the story of his brother's drowning Hardy was trying to keep from bursting into tears on live television.

    I was just a kid when I began watching Oliver and Hardy films on BBC TV. They were just awesome! And now watching this, I now know that Ollie (not me!) was a heavy smoker and he obviously ate a lot. Both put a huge strain on the heart. And the result is only one thing: death! Ollie, you were a wonderful human being!!!

    When my wife and I moved to Georgia back in 1991, we drove around north Georgia on some old roads ,bought some roadside peaches, and came upon an intersection at Harlem ,Georgia. There were only a couple old buildings but right in the Intersection was a statue of Oliver Hardy. It had him dancing on one leg with his one arm up and a small bird on his finger. Of course it had his derby on his head. It was life size and I wish I would have had a camera and taken a picture of it. Has anyone else ever seen it? My guess is that Harlem ,Georgia may not exist anymore. There was an old apartment house near the statue ,so I figure that is where he lived when born there. Anyone else seen the statue? Is it still there 31 years later?

    Who ever narrated this mispronounced many titles and names, and said Harry Langdon married Virginia Lucille Jones instead of Oliver Hardy! And she said Laurel and Hardy entertained the troops during WW1, whereas it was WW2! Geez I could be more factually correct than her!

      There's worse than that, "in 1805, when he was 13, he was sent to Young Harris College in north Georgia" I doubt even his grandfather was born before 1805.
      The script is word for word from Wikipedia, apart from the spoken mistakes.

    What I always wanted to know is why Ollie never had children.

    • @gunterangel
      @gunterangel Год назад +1

      As far as I Know, it wasn't a physical matter, but he had just decided against having children despite loving children in general.
      The reason... ? Who knows ?!
      Perhaps he was unsecure, wether he would be a good father, since he had lost his own father as a toddler, thus missing a role model.
      Or he just thought children would hinder his career.
      He probably had several reasons for his decision but he kept it private.

    • @12classics39
      @12classics39 Год назад +2

      His 1st wife was no good and his 2nd wife was an insane alcoholic who constantly escaped from sanatoriums, so he naturally didn’t want to have children with them. When he was finally happy with his 3rd wife, by then he considered himself too old to be a father at 48. He also feared that due to the hectic nature of his career, a hypothetical child would end up neglected.
