Servo and a ultra sharp spike should work just fine, or a small spring under the spike held in place with the servo pushrod, pushrod pulls out, spring pushes spike into Co2 and Walla job done. Would be about a quarter the size as well
maybe you could use a gas solenoid to put the co2 in a "piston chamber" kind system for parachute deployment. that screw system in the video takes too long and does not direct the gas, so it's more prone for leaks.
