Typically we use a 1/4oz to a 1/2oz bobber and adjust the inline weight based on the size of the jig! For example, a half ounce bobber would be a 1/4oz jig and a 1/4oz inline weight!
Hey guys loved the video and subscribed to your channel. You were fishing in our backyard here. Husband wants to know if you're using special gloves or what kind they are. Thanks
Hey! The onot is actually fairly simple! It is just a slip knot! Put the line through the eye, double up the tag end and then wrap the tag end through the loop around the mainline 7 times. Pull the tag end to close the loop, then wet the knot and pull on the mainline until the knot comes tight and cinches onto the jig! Hope that helps but I'll see if I can do a quick video on it as well!
We definitely did a few times! This was such new water for us the first day, that we tried it all to be able to learn more for the next day! Side drifting didn't get us a single fish this trip!
@@DayOneOutdoors wow thats hard to believe..as you know sidedrifting is deadly here locally...kinda of crazy you did as well as you did with the brutal water temps...
Thanks for the support! Between the 2 fishing guides and a hatchery manager, we absolutely respect and are highly conscious of making sure we take care of every fish we handle! Was there a moment of concern? Idaho has done some fantastic studies on wild fish that show mortality comes from where a fish is hooked and preventing blunt trauma while out of the water. Mortality is rarely attributed to catch and release, being held out of water, being handled in nets or even barbs. Always productive having the conversation as we are all on the same side trying to make sure these fish are well taken care of to ensure future fisheries!
@@DayOneOutdoors skamania steelhead . They run in the summer and spawn late winter early spring. Usually long and skinny like that. If caught in summer , very acrobatic ! Hardest fighting strain in my opinion .
They are summer steelhead, which is what the Great Lakes calls Summer Steelhead, but not the exact same strain as the Skamania steelhead that come from Washougal, Klickitat rivers.
Gotta Love it!!!
Good day. Kinda like fishing a trout farm, buncha hatchery fish stacked up.
Pretty much the situation for sure. But...it was still a challenge and we learned a lot on fishing pressured fish!
Nice
Love the underwater shots!
Thanks so much! We are very fortunate to have an excellent camera crew!
So fun!
When will we see the next Day One Outdoors steelhead derby?
The tourney was closed for Covid for a bit so hopefully again here soon!
What month is this
What size bobber and in line weight?

One of the most underrated channels. Keep at it man.
Really appreciate the support! We will keep growing because of folks like you!!!
Who said it was under rated?

Just rubber gloves from the hardware store!
What time of year?
November/december!
Glad you enjoyed your experience in the LC Valley. The videography of those Clearwater fish was great. Thanks for sharing.
We are very lucky to have some great camera guys! Thanks for the support!
You guys found the "Secret Spot" :-) Great Video!
"Secret"....yup! Worked out...and, we were the only boat there too!
Bobber and jig is always my go to for steelhead but im partial to it because i tie all my jigs myself
That is definitely a big part of the fun! Tying your own gear and then seeing it work!
I live in orofino and this is a awesome video can’t wait to catch some this year
Nice! Go get'em!
We are going to be there over Thanksgiving! We are so excited to catch a couple. It will be our first time steelhead fishing.
Outstanding video
Thanks for the support!
Great driving! I usually have to get out and push the drift boat through there if I want to cut into there!
Oh...we all thought he was going to end up high centered! Hahaha!
Great video. It is alway great to watch friends learn and go together.
Thanks so much! It was a fun shoot!
Can you please do a video of the knot to keep jigs horizontally ?

Why wouldn't you slip back an out in the river to cast twords the bank for better angle?

We were happy after the 2nd day. Found a little groove...but man we have a lot to learn about that system! Such a fun fishery!
Great fishing video, would just like to see you handle the wild fish a little better to prevent mortally rates. Cheers…

Just curious how did those fish cut ?🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
These being summer steelhead and, maybe because of the distance they need to travel, they cut quite well!
Where they all skams ?
??? Skams?

Maybe he means Skamania strain?

It was good for us on this trip and here in 2022 the run is epic!
