I have been SO excited to share this video with you guys! I have been putting off making over this guest room in my basement for far too long, so I thought it might be helpful to ask a couple friends to help out...and make a challenge out of it! I asked a bunch of my RUclipsr friends to pick out select items for the room without seeing what the style was, and had to make over the room with no plan or theme!! It was such a fun challenge and I am so excited to have friends sleepover and have a nice and comfortable stay in this room!

Ughhhhh if you had gone with an off-white to match the background of the wallpaper, it would have set the wallpaper off so nicely. As it is, it's like you made competing accent walls: crazy wallpaper and diarrhea brown color (the brown looks good on your dog; on your wall? Not so much) . It's too much and not pleasing at all.
I see that mattress topper immediately placed on top in the next scene lol
The Danny brown really worked with the warm-toned grey in the wallpaper. I am biased with the peacock paint, it’s my favorite. But for the space, it works with the three neutral tones. I agree with the comment about the progressive design collab version where each cameo person gets to add to the last persons’. It would definitely take a while to collect the vid footage together over time. I would have loved if there was more risk in the design choices. But they all knew what Becky’s style is.

You know I was thinkin it. They were all like "dark teal might be cool" and I thought "wow! That's so out of the norm for you! And then they whipped out a brown and I was like, oh. Yeah. Back to you. Cool, cool cool.
I think this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but here goes: The room miraculously came out okay, but I think the final result would have been a lot more cohesive/interesting if it was a "progressive design challenge" where each guest designer gets to see the previous designers' choices. It would have been cool to see how the design morphs with each new designer's input and Becky would get to tie all the choices together. This was more like a slot machine-style design challenge that felt very random and disjointed. Although the Becky managed to pull the room together in the end, there's several things still feel unresolved and incongruent with the final room design. Becky is really brave to go through with this challenge, but I'm looking looking forward to the future video when she redesigns this space. I don't mean to sound too critical - just my 2 cents!
Yeah, it would have been cool if it was filmed over a few months with the different people adding onto the previous ones! Like the recent Ten Hundred collab. It would have totally leveled up this challenge!
I was thinking the same thing watching this, that it made more sense for each designer to see what the previous one had chosen. The accents would be different, the colors, etc, and Becky would still have to make it cohesive overall, but I think it would've been far more interesting.

not gonna lie, there were a lot of points in this one where i got nervous. especially with the lamp. and i was sad you didn’t go out of your comfort zone and do a teal at first for the paint, but seeing the brown with that wallpaper gives me such a 70’s vibe and i love it. 10/10, this was such a fun challenge to watch!
The room looks good put together but I don’t feel that the orange/brown goes with the cool toned bed frame
Same I think she should’ve went with a cool toned or neutral toned color. Maybe she picked the warm color in hopes it would make the room feel more cozy for the guests but most of the stuff were on the cool toned side. Ngl I think that wall paper was tough to work with 😂 even though it was cool.
I feel like the only person that kind of hated everything in this room (except for the bed). But loved your positive attitude and how trusting you were Becky! I definitely couldn’t have done this 😅
You're not the only one! It's pretty much ALL awful :( especially the paint colour.
That wallpaper makes me uncomfortable to a similar level as carpeted bathrooms.
Yea the wallpaper really let the room down. It’s way too busy and drab for such a small space.
I agree. I did like the light fixture, but that wallpaper was hideous, especially compared to the floral options that were shown.
The wallpaper was my only fav lol the bed was nice but I can't help thinking of the dust collecting in those tight rolls and my allergies 🤧
That thrifter mirror really pulled the place together and gave it a much more modern feeling. Please tell me you returned that urban outfitters pillow as soon as you turned off the camera though 😭

The pillow would be fine in another room, but that light 😭 was absolutely horrible. Like how does someone even pick that out and expect it to look good?
I'm only a minute in and I love this idea. TBH, I feel like with Becky's fairly eclectic style, I think even if things don't really 'match' or whatever it will still work.

urban outfitters room decor is all priced like that 🥲wild they can charge $70 for mass produced 10 inch big accent pillows, and half the time you can find beautiful hand made versions online for half the price lmao

The warm paint and the cool wallpaper had me doubting until the end, but you really pulled it together!!! I love the results!!!!!!

I'm really impressed with how well the bed, the wallpaper, and the light all went together...I do wish you'd gone a bit out of your comfort zone and not chosen a warm tone for the walls...you pulled it all together in the end but I would've loved to see the teal!
When she held up all the teal and blue tones, I was totally rooting for the navy blue. But I think that choice would have given the room a more "glam" vibe, which doesn't really suit her. While I'm not a huge fan of the pumpkin colour, it does create some flow with the rest of the house and gives it an earthy vibe (even with the plush bed and the crazy wall paper, ha ha).
That paint color is a tragic baby poo color. The teal would have been so much better!!

I'm laughing because Becky always reverts to warm tones. Having gray and taupe which are kinda cool toned ... the teal was too cool toned for Becky. She had to throw in the warm tone brown paint.
The styling is on point but I was really hoping that the teal was chosen

Becky, you are such a sweetheart! I love how you managed everyone's contributions to your guest room (it's as if each person is a guest who gets to leave their mark on the room)! Would love to see this again but as a telephone effect?? Like you ask one person for the wall color and the next person can know the color and have to pick the rug, but then the next person can only know about the rug and has to choose the lighting... etc. So cool, can't wait to see more!
Especially since the sorry girls are known for final touches, I am so surprised and disappointed you didn't have anyone pick out art work for that blank wall opposite the window!! I think it would've been the thing to fully bring the room all together.
Bet your guests love this room! Very "alive" - from the movement in the wall paper to "live" edge shelving" to the smiley face pillow and plant. Totally impressed that you tied in the grey and black and brown so well. The paint was a real surprise but actually looks terrific! It somehow looks like a bigger space than it did empty, too! Love the wallpaper covering the electric box. Love the mirror and rails with the light fixture. The light fixture adds to the fun, alive vibe. Fun, upbeat space.
I don't really like the colour on the walls.....I feel like it makes the room look smaller......alsoo the wallpaper and the colour don't really go that well together......but the end result wasn't bad.....the other things kind of saved the day!

I feel bad that I didn’t love how this turned out. I think great job for the overall process though. If the color of the ceiling were changed maybe to black and the empty wall across from the window had something on it maybe that would be better.
When I saw the color of the walls I was like no no! But seeing with the wallpaper, it does look good together.

That wallpaper is a nightmare for those of us with vertigo. There's no way I'd be able to rest in a room with that all over the walls!
Personally, I would have enjoyed seeing the wallpaper on an accent wall instead of over two walls the way they did it. Like maybe on the wall between the two doors. Then it feels less "swimmy" for the eyes.

it's not a room to live in though, it's just a guest room. I think that's the only reason why it's even remotely doable - because you only have to live with it for a long weekend.
I also feel like the color combo is a bit dated? They remind me of the walls in friends houses like 15 years ago. Especially popular with random wall decals. Just not my thing, I guess.
Loved the headboard with the wallpaper and lamp, but on my monitor, the paint color didn't seem to add anything, although it must have in real life or you wouldn't have chosen it. Can you try to use a tripod or some other means to reduce excess motion in the camera? Motion sickness is not good for watching makeovers, especially with wallpaper like that...
Ohh you should definitely paint the little wooden shelf upholder wood piece the same colour as the wall, that way it’ll look even more like it’s floating! As it is the light wood seems to really jump out at me, you know?
For a room that was decorated with stuff randomly chosen without communication, it came out quite luxurious. Loving it..

i love how this room turned out. Beautiful! I do think the chair rail paint color would look nice in a light cream color to match the wallpaper and bedding. It's a detailed piece that could pop out a little bit in the room that is now currently hidden.
I was so excited about Mr. Kate collabing and the space turned out amazing! I also cannot resist an orange or rusty orange.

I love the brown/orange color! Such a cool 70s vibe. Who cares if it’s not outside of her comfort zone, it’s HER house and it looks great! She’s proven she can design outside of her personal design aesthetic for clients plenty of times. I think the cool, dark tones would feel a little too gloomy for a basement room. The warm tones make it feel comfy and intimate.
Really excited for this unique makeover. I am not at all surprised that Becky chose that paint colour. 😄 I am sure it will look gorgeous, back to the video.

I love that you went for the earthy orange paint. Just like you keep the owner in mind when you go do other people's spaces, here you should keep yourself in mind since you are the owner and this room needs to feel like a part of your home. For me, that paint colour brought together the cold wall paper, bed and light fixtures while adding in warmth and a very welcome retro touch. This room now feels different enough and yet similar enough to the rest of your house. And I really enjoyed this "trust the process" type of video, would definitely want to see more. Cheers.

I find this idea to be so fun, and I love the retro feel that the room ended up having. I think a lot of people are not feeling it because this room has a strong personality, but I like when a room is surprising and when it really pops! I genuinely felt inspired by this.
the only pillow haley ordered that didn’t match the colors in the room was the one that came in😭 the other ones would’ve looked SO BOMB i’m sad we didn’t get to see those :( the room still turned out amazing tho
Use the trim as a spot to add hooks for purses & coats! 😃 I’m dying @ “but don’t be scared, wallpapering’s not that bad, and you can totally handle it” haha love the encouragement towards trying something new and learning! But I’m so laughing that you said that and the way you said it! 😄😊

That terracota colour is nice. It’s very similar to the one in Kelsey’s bathroom but Becky’s process to pick it was completely different!!

That wallpaper would also look so cool in a version with 70s lime green and lighter violet/lilac instead of the grey, as if both colours had been marbled into white.

Unexpectedly cute! I would've painted the full walls a similar white/crème colour from the wallpaper and confined the bold clay colour to below the paper.

Personally, I loved the teal paint but it turned out great!
I'm not a huge fan of the pumpkin colour with the other elements of the room, but it is very Becky so I'm not at all surprised this was her final choice! Ha ha! I do believe the colour choice gave the room a very earthy feel, which suits Becky's taste. With the wallpaper and the bed, it could have been done more glam, which as funky as that would be I don't think would fit with the rest of the house as well. Your choices fit you well and you turned the space into a super fun room while also keeping that earthy vibe that flows through the rest of your house. I think your guests are going to love the vibe and and it is HUGE improvement over the old look! Love the idea of having everyone contribute an element to the room, too. Such a cute and creative way to redecorate!

Becky made this all work pretty well, I’m impressed, but personally I think the smiley face throw pillow & butterfly throw pillow don’t go with the room at all and look awful. But without those I’m impressed it doesn’t look too bad and there were so many times while watching this when I was like ‘um… how’s that gonna work’ 😂

The rust-colored paint is just a bit much for me though personally, given how dark the room is with the tiny window...maybe a soft white/cream color...just my preference, of course.
