No doubt this one is a masterpiece. Just musically you have a lot to learn from this especially those orchestration, and this one really represents American spirit: always venturing and moving forward despite fear and sadness. My favourite is the 3rd movement since it fits my dark mind haha. There’s even flugelhorn in the 3rd movement! That baritone saxophone in the movement is so captivating. But all the other movements are magical as well. The modal colour throughout the piece is so colourful but not in an impressionistic way, rather in a carefree way which reminds me of British medieval music. Thx so much for your upload. I am always happy to discover masterpieces I have never heard before! Henry
As long as I have been listening to and studying classical music, I have never heard any of Grainer's compositions. Very freshing experience even though I hope he could have transcribed another orchestral version of it because I keep on thinking what's like to place those music ideas in a diffeent set of tonal (richer) textures. 💥💥💥
Granger actually did write for the orchestra. I would recommend checking out his other band, orchestra or even piano works. It is quite sad how in most of the classical world grainger's works have been forgotten. Only band musicians truly remember him.
@@not_a_generic_name6183 Thank you. Many people who play piano can only remember Grainger because he edited Grieg Piano Concerto published by Schirmer selling for $ 10. 🤣
