My dad sent me this song earlier today and said that he knew I didn’t listen to country music but knew that when I heard this I’d love it cause he thought of me when he heard this. I ain’t gone lie I almost cried I had to smile big lol. My dad took me in when I was younger and he’s got two other children of his own. I love that man like he actually help create me. He may not have physically, but emotionally, and mentally, he has helped shape me to be the man I am today and I love him with everything in me. When people see him I point proudly bein 23 saying that’s my dad right there and him being a Caucasian Man it makes people scratch their head. Love shows no color. As you know you’ve heard my story. I turned 27 in june and my father died a year ago in May. We weren't very close and didn't have the relationship I would of liked to of had. It hurts me a lot knowing amends can never be made but I know that when I become a father I'll be extremely loving and supportive and not repeat the same mistakes he did. Regardless of if the child is biologically mine or not. Which is a big change because in the past I was against raising someone else's kid because I want my own. But now i realize that's selfish and there's lots of fatherless kids that need love and guidance.
Mr Shane. I am a father of 4 adopted children. I was working the other day when I first heard this song, I stopped what I was doing and ran to the radio to hear it better and find out who sang it. I was adopted and I know your children are so blessed to have you. When we are young we don't express that very well. When I was older I finally told my parents in a very meaningful way how much they mean to me. I expressed how grateful and blessed I am that they chose me. I also told my Dad I noticed how hard he worked for us. When I was a young I never thanked him although I doubt he expected me to. Still, I'm glad I got that chance before my Dad passed away.

As a 20yr old with a father that isn’t technically mine and loosing him due to battling ALS I’ve learned that I’ve gained more respect to him solely to the fact he didn’t have to raise me. It’s so hard to balance being a stepdad when the real dad is “kinda” around. I met my boy when he was 12, and I knew he’d never call me Dad. I always introduce him as “my son” and I’ve always felt the best I can do is be a good role model, teach him how to treat his mom, treat other women, treat other people the right way. He’s on his way to being his own kind of man, not exactly like me, but a solid person who is equipped to make his way in the world. I’m not sure if the song or the other comments made me cry more.

My stepson landed in my world at 4 years old. He is 21 now. He’s as much a part of me as my own 14 yr old. He has my birthday flower tattooed on his arm right beside his moms. My mom knew from the first time she met him that he would be in our lives from then on. Everyone’s hearts grew around my stepson.

I met my son when he was 5, he just turned 16 last week. I wasn't there for his first steps, but I haven't and won't miss anything else. It has been the most rewarding experience I have ever gone through watching him grow up. I’m about to be married next year to a wonderful woman that had 2 boys from 2 different men (one still has visitation from his dad and the other isn’t in the picture). The moment I met them to this very day, I’m very proud of MY boys. And when I become their step-dad and soon dad (after adoption) it will bring me more joy knowing I will do my best to be the best dad for them both. This song makes my heart smile. My son has raised his "son" from age 6 weeks. He's now 12 and we've loved him from the first day he mom brought this little bundle of joy into our lives. His name is Victor. I call him Bruno. He's a cute Hispanic boy in a family of African Americans. And he's just as smart and happy as all the other children in our family. My 12 and 10 year old sons found this song right after their step dad passed away on nov 22 2020. This is how my late husband felt to a tee about his kids. I relate to this in two ways. One from the perspective of the child, as my nephew didn’t have his dad in his life, but his mom married a stand up guy that has raised him as his own. A true Dad. The second from the perspective of the Dad, as I raised one of my daughters for 11 years before finding out I wasn’t the parental parent. I will never not see her as my daughter. The role of a parent isn’t just blood, it’s a role of choice, responsibility and sacrifice.
Never met my biological father but on this Father’s Day im looking back and so thankful that God had a better plan. My dad took us in when I was 7. Taught me how to love, work hard, play hard, respect others and encouraged me along my own journey to becoming a man husband father. Thanks daddo. This song rings true for us! I started dating a woman when her boys were 3 and 1. They call me dad because I'm all they've ever known. That do t bother me a bit because I provide for them, take care of them, and raise them, so as far as I'm concerned they are mine. Blood doesn't mean a thing. I literally HATE country music but I heard this at work and had to step outside to bust some tear drops. Met my children at 3 and 6 months. My grandpa met my grandma when she already had two kids of her own. He raised them like they were his flesh and blood. They don’t remember him not being in their lives. Their biological dad wasn’t really in their lives. So my grandpa happily filled those shoes. He loved them so much, and knowing that made me love him all the more. I found this song after he passed away. This really was him 🤍

My stepson got married last night and he chose to dance with his mom and a 2nd dance with me. He chose this song for us to dance to as he remembered me sending it to him when I first heard it. A few decades ago, I first met the man that would eventually be my dad. I'm without a doubt completely certain that if he hadnt stuck with my mom and been there for me, I would be dead. He adopted me, and helped me become a man, even if I didn't appreciate what he did for me at first. Later on, my mom abandoned me, but he helped me hang in there, even as they divorced, and he found happiness again with another woman. Now I feel more love from those that choose to be my parents than those connected by blood. And I could never articulate that gratitude and appreciation to them.

His mom and I have a 20 month old son and 12 month foster now, but he was my first child and taught me a lot. Hell I never thought I wanted kids until I met his mom and him. I met my beautiful wife in '96, we got together in '97, and married in May of '04. I became a stepdad to her 12 year old son, and she became a stepmom to my 4 children. He is now 29, married, and has two sons of his own. On April 28th of this year I adopted him, and officially became his Dad, even though I always considered him my son. I'am very proud of the man he's become, and very proud of the Dad he's becoming....I love you son.
I met my two boys when my youngest was 5 and my oldest was 7. and now my youngest is 13 and my oldest is 15. they are not my blood but they are my boys. This song makes me cry when I listen to it. my two boys know I am a phone call away and I am there. I will always be there for my two boys.

The first time I heard the song I thought of him and the day he asked if I would adopt him and his sister so that we would be a family. No child should be brought into this world outside the confines of marriage, but if a woman changes her lifestyle and repents of her sins, then she will know that her child needs a father, and if the real father isn’t willing to step up, someone else should.
