Stephen Colbert brings his signature satire and comedy to THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT, the #1 show in late night, where he talks with an eclectic mix of guests about what is new and relevant in the worlds of politics, entertainment, business, music, technology and more. Featuring bandleader Louis Cato and “THE LATE SHOW band,” the Peabody Award-winning and Emmy Award-nominated show is broadcast from the historic Ed Sullivan Theater. Stephen Colbert took over as host, executive producer and writer of THE LATE SHOW on Sept. 8, 2015.
Here in Texas, oil and gas owns the state government, and yet, Texas leads the nation in wind power generation. We have more windmills than any other state. Kal's observation is dead on. Our state talks down sustainable energy, but the free market is actually doing it anyway.
Texas politicians have tried hard to stop it though. Texas was far ahead because of early coalitions before it got political. Texas would be so much further if politicians were smart
texas is really big and mostly flat and gets a lot of wind. wind farms work well there. not so much in, say, the north east. vermont and new hampshire would not support wind farms on the same scale as texas. that's why there's so many wind farms in texas.
Not to mention the solar installations
someone please .. think of the whales! ..
“Love is often called ‘the taco of emotions.’” ¡Qué excelente!
Kal is a classy individual, I’m excited to see he has a new show.
"Love is the tacos of emotions."
Can’t wait to see him on the Daily Show
@2:08 "Whatever gets you to the table.."
Sandwiches.
Sandwiches get everyone to the table.
Tacos get everyone to the table. It's a sandwich with a hinge!
Both of you 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Kal Penn is the man
Since white castle I'm a fan
Classic stoner comedy
After seeing both videos this one and the email story while working under Obama that made me laugh pretty darn hard. Excited to see what Kal has to serve up especially since he has a focus on what brings everyone together even when both sides can't fully agree on a topic. It'd be interesting what his skits would be to double the amount of laughter while informing public about important stuff
My friend and I went on an 8 hour trip to a place where there were White Castles around. This was right after the first movie came out. We figured, since they didn’t have White Castles back home, we’d go all out and each get a box of 30 burgers. My friend was halfway into his second burger when told me he hated them, and he couldn’t eat another bite. I then made it my mission to finish both boxes. I succeeded.
I would LOVE for him to be the new Daily Show host! Good luck Kal!
Loved the "and money"
I could see him being a permanent host for the Daily Show. Best wishes to him.
Lol you think he's Hasan m
should we tell him
You’re thinking of Hasan Minhaj lol
@@trueternalthug No, I'm not. I think Kal Penn would do well in the show. Especially if he breaks out and do Kumar impressions every once in awhile.
I have no idea why you people think I'm thinking of Hassan Minhaj 🤷♂
@@jasdeepdosanjh1274 No. Did you not watch the full interview? He was offered the gig to host the daily show for a week and he's hoping he gets the gig permanent.
we REALLY need a show like Kals now
I agree! It’s so good he is up for it!
Man Kumar turned out to be a really well rounded individual. Lets go stoner bros
I love KAL
I love how the tacos and the paycheck were the selling point on the wedding 😂😂
Love Kal Penn ❤️
He would make such a fantastic daily show host!
liberalism is corporatism masking stockholm syndrome,
tds needs more progressive hosts than this wannabe suit
Yes he's a fantastic actor. Funny & serious roles he plays.
Kal Penn is perfect for the next host of The Daily Show!
I'd love one final Harold and Kumar legacy sequel. Maybe set it in "the future" with Roldy and Kumar's kid's going to White Castle. Maybe NPH has a kid too with NPH's face digitally added?
Kal for permanent Daily Show Host!!
Kal would make a phenomenal host
He's got my vote to host the Daily Show.
Best qualified so far, imo. I would start watching again, give him a try. 💞
it's a highly sarcastic show and wanda sykes excelled at it. i don't foresee kal penn exceeding her performance but we'll see.
He's hosting the Daily Show on my birthday 🎂😄
That’s my bday too. Bday twins.
Happy Birthday in advance. 😘
Happy look at me cry for help day! 😜
Hey rolled y lol ,still craving white castle 🏰 🍔 burgers!!
Smart dude (and damn funny). I hope he gets the Daily Show.
I’m still waiting for the next cyborgasm.
I can't believe this is Kumar
The way he talks… he reminds me so much of Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
Second Life has been doing Virtual World weddings for 20 years. And they do it waaaaaaay better.
And for free.
Taco bell does not make real tacos lol
Give him the daily show.
I liked van wilder and he was funny but I didn't know where he went after that. He's funny, likeable and smart. I hope I see him more often.
It is *amazing* to me just how much Kal's mannerisms and speech patterns and stuff sync up with Pete Buttigieg's...
it's called neo-lib double-speak
@@soth1sol Whatever makes you sleep at night.
Insecurity and projection are a bitch.
@@soth1sol Can you explain that? It doesn't really make sense as far as I can tell, but maybe I'm missing something.
My guess that's oratory lessons in those fancy colleges and general being around politicians, cause yep, this speaking pattern is very familiar (look up other Obama's WH "alumni", Pod Save America guys). I am not saying I don't like it, cause it's clear, enunciated and succinct, easy to understand even for non-English speaker like me, definitely better than some ramblings we all had to listen in previous years, you know who I am talking about, but it requires a lot of charisma to sound authentic. Basically, one has to be Obama. Or Kal 😊
Kal Pen? I always thought his name was Kumar
He would be a great Daily Show Host.
When we move forward it will be true to the art made along the way without the hate. If they want me on board. Bc I love the works of art just not when I’m harmed.
And don’t care for money from it until I’m getting demeaned. Bc having that money would prevent that.
🤸🏽♂️ 🤣 🤸🏽♂️ 🖖🏼 🤸🏽♂️ 🥂
I have to admitt I was highly rooting for Minhaj. But Kel would be the more relaxed and an on point host. I am torn. But maybe leaning now a little more to Kal!
Great persona!
We could be running Cars on WATER
Once you realize that, everything else is pretty clear
Also, I've got a feeling Harold and Kumar Go To Taco Bell is in the works
water is a scarce resource, most of the water in the world is salt. Many countries are already facing problems with droughts and water shortages, using it up as fuel would be a really bad idea.
@@sogghartha
I really don't think that's the problem here.
Seawater could be used for everything but it isn't because the treatment is too expensive, that tells you were the problem lies ...business.
@@sogghartha That's DRINKING WATER, ALOT of the World is without, not the PROCESS of Using Water as a FUEL SOURCE.
Also, look up DESALINIZATION, NOT that SALT WATER ,would make a Difference as a FUEL
But WINNING office pays nicely. K street.
Grady sutton Talk about elvis prelsey
Eh... I don't know about that climate thing. My favorite episode so far of "The Problem with Jon Stewart" was the one where he points out that the only real solution to climate change is for the big companies that destroyed it in the first place to do it. In that episode, it didn't seem like they wanted to 🤨
i haven't seen the kal climate thing yet but just knowing he worked for obama is enough to assume it's probably closer to that than not. also the way he said "doom and gloom" as if calling out the first degree serial eco-ciders was poo poo depressing blah blah blah who cares to mention negative things? but here's our SOLUTION!!! razzle dazzle. give me a break. there's no intervention without calling out the problem. by name. by face. by address. kal's climate thing says "yeah no, don't look at that, don't look at obama's lack of regulating, lack of protections, lack of funding, lack of holding corporations to account, lack of meeting any significant moment whatsoever (even fucked up same sex marriage), don't look at fact his administration did nearly everything possible to ensure trump mentality takeover, don't do the real math of nation taking ten steps back, biden's BBB's one step forward is more than enough and "on the right path"! "i'm kal".
we are so absolutely fucked.
@@soth1sol To be clear, I'm honestly a fan of Obama because he got us universal health care and killed Bin Laden. I just don't buy that the big polluters are excited to help end climate change when they profit from polluting.
@@asrexproductions fair enough. and you should absolutely be critical of BIG anything tbh. i don't want to condescend, but encourage. that's healthy.. that's what we need. just gotta rant here tho,
"universal" health care just means "acce$$" ...with the dollar signs. do not forget the dollar signs. no more s'ss's'ss. like, seriously. from here on out, "access to health care" = "acce$$ to health care" = "so fucking what?" we need single payer, medicare for all. yesterday. no litmus, no doubt, no questions asked. obama worked over time to uphold dying system (essentially ensuring more people would die. bc most people cannot afford "universal" acce$$). that was a mitt romney joint btw.
"don't boo, vote" was the extent of potus campaigning heading into 2016, before essentially priming stage (economicly, at least!) for trump mentality takeover. "thanks, obama!" indeed. but also ...clinton is "what happened". the ol' corporatist double whammy! 1, 2, punch! may be important to keep in mind that obama's corporatists did incredibly well during both trump's term! AND covid!!!!!!! while just about everyone else suffered. (not a coincidence, wasn't a fluke, this is GOLIATH on a rampage). top 1% is richest this planet has ever known in richest country planet has ever known. miniumum wage hasn't changed since 2009. we still have homelessness. and a global embarrassment D rated infrastructure. (again... these are not flukes ...THESE ARE POLICY CHOICES!!!)
end capital punishment. bin laden should've been put to trial on world stage.
ofc ...that's kinda like allowing epstein to have his day in court...
hence the whole, throw terrorist into sea thing...
@@soth1sol Yes, universal healthcare IS corporate welfare for the healthcare industry (which is why it boggled the mind that the GOP opposed it, but anyway...), but how else are you going to get it done in a hyper-capitalism like ours? Having had a preexisting condition since I was a teen and being terrified what I would do if I lost my awful job or a Republican came into office, IMO universal healthcare was a HUGE improvement. I like the expression "never let the perfect be the enemy of the good," which IMO applies here.
@@asrexproductions let it only be a stepping stone then. we need to g$tfo of politics. that is the linchpin. that is why "nothing will fundamentally change" (biden). but you're right, we can't settle, but it also won't happen as fast as we need it to. which brings me back to ...10 steps back, 1 forward, is still 9 steps back = "we are so absolutely fucked."
God did put us here to take of our Eden!
Please don't use God as an excuse to pillage the earth and ruin the Garden of Eden for future generations. God put us here to take care of what was given to humanity and equally given to animals and every living thing here in this biosystem. We are smarter and therefore have responsibility to not break it for future humanity and animals. We are meant to tend to the garden, not poison it and ruin our own futures.
I grow trees. Everyone should learn and do it. Everything has a job on this earth.. humans are terrible at doing theirs
"Dig dig dig in that direction."
I always wonder what they are talking about when they come back on air.
YES! Omg.. ANDD when they go off audio like when the break begins 🙄 it'd be so interesting to know these bits
I never knew Kal had been working for the Obama administration, that's cool, I'm sure he could get a lotta material from that time, as long as the name's are changed to protect their identity.
I feel like Stephen totally borked the opportunity in this episode to reference the fact that Meghan Markle and Kal Penn were costars in the film A Lot Like Love.
i think using the term "borked" is self-borking
He's nice and all but I'm for Hassan. All the way. Hassan deserves this. John Oliver was perfect for that show obviously, but he got a better gig a long time ago... so, yeah, Hassan Minaj
Oh yeah, the greed is so funny... 😒
Mr Penn is right that public service doesn't pay all that well, but I can't help but notice that people in congress tend to get quite wealthy due to their successful investments while in office. They have special knowledge which gives them a real advantage over ordinary people. It's not insider trading, as that is legally defined, but still, it gives them a big advantage.
we should probably do what bernie's been saying and stop voting for corporatists.
I forget which state this happened in, but the utilities somehow got those saving $$$ due to solar panels to still pay because they were losing $$$. Ah, capitalism. Other countries protect the people. SMH.
I love Kal Penn AND a woman better get the D.S. gig, damnit.
How about a qualified, informed comedian, regardless of sex?
Hasan and Kal hosting Daily Show. Wow. Get my boy Aziz in there.
How can you talk about climate issues and not mention meat and dairy industries.. It's always about clean energy. Having a show where you focus on climate issues and then partnering with taco bell is just beyond me.
embarrassing to promote META-verse, at least he pointed out he's just cashing out
he is cool but please next a woman or jon stewart to host daily show.... thank you, please, choking on chicken bone 🥰🙏💜
Daily show needs to go to Hasan I think, we'll see how he does.
Nice guy but more of a politician than a comedian. The permanent host for DS should go to HASAN MINHAJ!
Now I understand why this brown Jimmy Kimmel has those lips…
God, more lies from the warmers!
It's science 🤣 fool
Yeah, who needs planet Earth.
You muppet! 😂
"god" in 2023 is ADORABLE!!!
I would so love to see him as the shows host to replace Noah Trevor he’s hilarious talented smart witty on his game !!! and put sauerkraut on your white castle burgers and that makes them completely healthy 😊😂
Trevor Noah?
