- Since local media organisations commenced publication of the leaked #PandoraPapers, former Governor Peter Obi has been hard-pressed to deny the revelations on his secret business dealings overseas.
Like similar document leaks before it, the Pandora Papers have helped to expose the concealed fortunes in offshore tax havens and, in some cases, money laundering by some of the most powerful people in the world.
But in a statement, Obi dismissed a report by Premium Times, which disclosed that the former governor had concealed a number of offshore businesses and investments when he was at the helm of affairs in #Anambra State.
According to #MusikiluMojeed, Editor-in-Chief of Premium Times, Obi may have violated the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act by not declaring his or that of his family’s beneficial ownership in the said assets.
Mojeed, who was on the show last week, added that the former governor flouted the Nigerian Constitution by operating a foreign bank account while in office and may have concealed his offshore investments to avoid tax.

You can see how the humble Peter is held to account, I am yet to see any other Nigerian politician appear on TV and give account on their assets or matters regarding corruption. What some people do not know is that offshore Trusts are legitimate means for tax avoidance...tax avoidance is legitimate in law, what is criminal is tax evasion. Most Trust companies have seasoned tax consultants to help you plan your tax affairs by taking the best advantage of the tax incentives in tax policies especially for persons that are multi-jurisdictional like Peter Obi. One major reason why people go for off shore trusts is because of double taxation especially when there are no tax treaties between the jurisdictions one has investments in.
What Peter Obi did was OK, however what one is not sure is if at the time he was governor, the trust was a blind trust, although there are really no clear provisions in Nigeria that trusts for political office holders must mandatorily be blind trusts.

The state was in debt of over 200 billion he left the state, handed over 500 billion, owed no worker a dim, that is the man you want to be your president.
Anambra state was ranked 27th in education before he became governor by the time he left office anambra was ranked 2nd: that is the kind of president that you need. Today Africa has automobile industry, innoson motors. Now gone international, currently sold in Ghana, Sierra Leone Togo etc. It was only possible because of this man's collaboration with the CEO.
