    It’s so cool how you have so many colonies that are all relatively small. It just makes me think of “the big ant boom”

      Nice! I would recommend starting out with only a species or 2 on your first year so you don’t get overwhelmed. That was my issue.

    I'm glad they're doing good. You should try byFormica products. They make excellent feeders and Sunburst ant nectar which my ants love! Also for nests it would be cool if you bought some nests from European nest makers. You could also try to make yourself. It would also be cool if you made a DIY nest and moved them into that. Although a big Crematogaster colony is probably not going to be the easiest thing to make a nest for, especially if it's your first DIY formicarium.

    How do you manage to hibernate your ants? There are so many ants, so idk how you'd disconnect the outworld without losing some ants.

    • @antsanatomy1436
      @antsanatomy1436  3 года назад

      The ants at least for me all went inside so I was able to disconnect the outworld after a month in hibernation

  • @khidaly5016
    @khidaly5016 3 года назад +1

    In the first time lapse two workers looked like they were fighting in the bottom left corner. Could the colonies scent fade away during hibernation so one of the workers thought the other was from a foreign colony?

    • @antsanatomy1436
      @antsanatomy1436  3 года назад

      The colony was waking up, the scent couldn’t fade because they are all bunched together. I’m guessing they were confused because of them waking up 🤷‍♂️ I was Wondering if anyone would see that lol.

    • @khidaly5016
      @khidaly5016 3 года назад

      Ok that makes sense. Also I’m keeping Lasius and Formica do you know when I should take them out of hibernation?

    • @antsanatomy1436
      @antsanatomy1436  3 года назад

      Depends on when you put them in. I’m leaving my Formica in for 3 to 4 months and Lasius around 4 to 5

    • @jonathanthompson4734
      @jonathanthompson4734 3 года назад

      Depends on the species. For example my Messor barbarus collect numerous types of seeds including oats. You have to be careful however, because lots of crops will have been sprayed with insecticide. Feeding a contaminated food to your ants will kill them.

    Why did you take them out of diapause so early? I live in CT, I put mine in the fridge on Nov 1st, there’s still a foot of snow on the ground here. Should I be taking mine out as well? Was going to wait until I saw ants out in my yard until I took them out.

    • @antsanatomy1436
      @antsanatomy1436  3 года назад

      In captivity you can take ants out of hibernation earlier. Also this is the only colony I have taken out so far because they don’t require much hibernation according to people I have talked to that have big colonies of this species.
