@Richard Reed well, it is possible obviously, just getting the customs system up and running will take years. But that it is possible does not mean that it will be on par with what it used to be: hitting the reset will damage the economy for decades, mind what it does to the scientific community, travel freedoms etc. But mistakes have to happen so people do learn I guess - that's the bright side.
From my continental point of view: there's been enough cherrypicking. They want out? Have them taste it. I am sorry for all the young people who are dragged out against their will though.

Well yes, if the tories had not called for the prorogation of Parliament and If they had not tried to run the clock down, it would have given the speaker time to table the motion at a much later date.
Because the motion in question was related to “brexit day” and time was limited, he could not have set a date to table the motion in question well before the exit day and to allow time, for the House of Lords for amendments and back to the commons for a last vote, also time for the PM to ask for an extension. Because that’s what it is.. it’s basically a law to prevent a no deal.
The truth is, the Tory Gov tactic to run the clock down failed and has in fact; been deemed unlawful by Scottish courts and now, the matter is to be held in the U.K. Supreme Courts, to decide whether or not to demand the PM to reverse the prorogation and reconvene parliament.
Yes I agree, being unlawful isn’t a “very British” thing.😉

      Ha ha - so funny.
Parliament is falling apart and this twit wants to grab some glory for himself.
The phrase 'Nero fiddled as Rome burnt' comes to mind.

Usually speakers don't go back to their parties (in this case Tories - conservative). After some time they are usually elected to the House of Lords as crossbenchers (so people who hold no political affiliation). Also his wife is a private citizen and Bercow commented on it. Shame to see such a great Speaker leave. He could have easily done it for next 10 years.

I would just like to point out that there were only 45 people watching UK parliament live. No wonder some of the comments on here only reflect what is told to them through the BBC and the rumour channel's.

As an American, I must say that this is a much better governmental structure and culture than in the U.S. (though this is a relatively new development in the historical narrative).
