    Hello John. I am convinced that you have mutch more experience in building wooden ships than i have , but Billing Boats cannot completely convince me and i prefer Occre, witch i think is the better company for the time being. That's just my opinion.
    I have to say that i have been enjoying your videos for several years now.

      It is not about convincing someone to buy the model, it about making a model , more challenging and make it the way i like it, this mean that i will add a few extra parts and will change some. if you are following the Victory series, you must have seen that the Victory is unique, non other exists like this one, lots of details and great result!

    I mentioned to someone the other day I wanted to build a wooden model ship. we were talking about bucket list things. His reaction was that’s nice. I think I have one in the box underneath my bed inherited from my grandfather. The next day he brings me over he constructor Cutty Sark from 1985 mint condition. Zero parts missing. Talk about asking you shall receive.
    I’ve been looking for a week or so on RUclips trying to find someone building a Cutty Sark and lo and behold. I found you I thought I had already subscribed to you because I’ve seen several of your videos but now that you are building the Cutty Sark, I am going to try and build along with you. Good luck. Wish me luck by the way this is my third wooden ship. I built model cars, my whole life, but only third model. Wish me luck I need you to really mean it.

    Hi John - another interesting project to follow. My preference for lighting are the flickering yellow , simulating candles, I think they are more realistic. I have just started on Artesanis Latinas new version of the Santasima Trinidad, and I'm using it to start my vlog on UTube, so learning about video editing at the same time - not bad for a 76 year old eh?

    No presawn sails, a lot of plastic parts, no exotic wood, just plywood.. I remember when John said that he didn't like Artesania Latina because it was crap.. Well, here we are with the same type of kit, and this is good.. I could actually hear in your voice that it is not the same type of excitement as you used to have in other unboxings, but it may just be me.. Don't misunderstand me, John, I like your work a lot, and I thank you for getting me into this hobby, but billing boats are not giving the buyers the quality they are paying for.. Anyway, I will watch this build series as well:) Give Wolf and Buddy some hugs from me:)

    • @JohnsWoodenShips
      @JohnsWoodenShips  11 месяцев назад +2

      It has nothing to do with Artesania, it is way better. Also i will build this the way i like ,just like the HMS Victory. And if you are watching the Victory series you can understand that is one the best model kits around.

    • @NikkiKuehnemund
      @NikkiKuehnemund 11 месяцев назад +1

      @JohnsWoodenShips All I'm saying is that Billing Boats are using the same type of wood in their kits as Artesania Latina does. Why is the one better than the other..? Ok, Artesania may use thinner plywood, but the hull is constructed with more parts and as a 3d puzzle, giving it the strength it needs.

    I am building this from a 1982 vintage Billing kit. Except for the laser cut wood parts it looks exactly the same as from 40 years ago, same plastic parts, blocks and plans! The Cutty Sark was not sheathed in copper plates but Muntz metal which is brass. I have replaced most of the decor plastic parts with photo etched parts which you can buy and have bought some proper sails. I think the quality and detail of this kit is not up to modern standards and you will need to do a lot of extra work than shown in the plans to make it to a good standard. The biggest problem with this kit is that the bulk head spacing is too large and it makes the hull planking very difficult to do especially around the stern. I am about 40% through the build but it took me probably 3x longer to get the hull right than on any of my previous models. I hope it goes OK for you, but watch out, it will try your patience! 🙄

    as much as I love your videos, I just think that billing boats supplying plastic deadeyes and plastic blocks with wooden ship and call it wooden model in this price range is unacceptable and I personally if I have bought this ship and saw that they supply plastic in there i would have returned it same day.

      @@JohnsWoodenShips not sure which occre models did have plastic deadeyes and blocks, but i had 4 large models from them and all came with wooden ones and now i have different ship very expensive and again wooden ones. to me, these parts should be the strongest as there is lots of stress on them and company replacing these with plastic is to me unacceptable, cheaping out on something what should be high/highest quality..thats my opinion on plastic parts in high quality models kits.
      I also bough my 6th boat for next year for £1100 I havent started on it yet, but once again 0 plastic and like I said if there was any plastic it would be going straight back to seller. I pay this amount of money and expect highest quality not plastic

      I forget which kit it was, but I wasn't happy with the anchor chain. The links were open and looked horrible. Since I didn't have a hobby shop anywhere nearby I scoured the jewelry counters of dept stores looking for the right scale chain with soldered links.
