    I really appreciate this demo. I was thinking I’d treat myself to a Cameo 5 but I can see it’s not for me. Aside from cutting vinyl I don’t cut anything thinner than card stock and I’d have trouble finding space to store the electrostatic mat flat. So it’s back to my other plan of tossing my old ratty mats and buying some new ones.

      It is definitely not for every user.... for delicate materials mostly, like vellum, copy paper, parchment paper.... things that tear easily coming off an adhesive mat.

    Does thr ES bed come with the protective cutting sheet, or is that a seperate item? They've not quite landed in the UK yet and I've seen packs of two protective sheets, but wondered if you got one with the bed too?

    Do you think humidity of the room and/or the material being cut has an effect on the ES mat’s ability to hold material firmly? We have evaporative air conditioning (I think it might be called a swamp cooler in the US), so I wonder if the ES bed would be affected…

    • @SilhouetteSecrets
      @SilhouetteSecrets  6 месяцев назад +1

      It won't affect the ES bed itself but the materials in your room, yes. High humidity causes paper to curl and not remain flat. And humidity can affect paper cutting in general.

    Great video! I just received my Cameo 5 and my ES mat and right off the bat, I'm not impressed that you can't cut a full 12"x12" piece media. I select ES Mat 12"x12" as my cutting mat, then I select Auto or 12"x12" as my media size. Everything indicates 12"x12" until you cut. It only cuts until 11.5" from the left to right side and only 11.5" from the top to the bottom. You loose a full 1" of the media your cutting on right side and bottom if selecting 12"x12". I wish I would have know that before I made this purchase. I hate to waste that much of my media or am I missing a setting somewhere?

      What does the red border show as the maximum cut area on a 12x12 page when it's checked on the Page Setup Panel? That is your cut border.
      However, yes, you can not cut to the edge of the page because then you'll break that electrostatic charge. It is just how it works. You need surface area of the material to maintain that charge. I'd it's broken or the surface area is not large enough to maintain the charge, the material is not held by anything. The ES bed is not for all materials or projects.

    Question: Does Cameo 5 cut accurately? If not, does accuracy get better with electrostatic bed? I like to work with card stock and thin paper (regular letter-size blank paper with custom prints) but Cameo 3 was too far off. I am wondering if I should give Cameo5 a chance and your channel is definitely getting me interested. Thanks!

    • @edwardholmes91
      @edwardholmes91 6 месяцев назад

      I've got a Cameo 5, it's my first digital cutter and I've been very impressed with its accuracy.
      I did a print and cut test/demo with a simple Santa PNG I found online... I cut one with an external offset, one with an internal offset (i.e. psuedo bleed) and one with no offset. The maximum it was out was maybe half a millimeter, if that.
      One demo I did, I had bright overhead lighting and the example with no offset cut absolutely perfectly, very impressive!

    • @SilhouetteSecrets
      @SilhouetteSecrets  6 месяцев назад

      @edwardholmes91 love to hear that. I don't have issues with print and cut either. It is within the normal range for a print and cut to be off by 1/16" using the default registration marks.
      Adjusting the registration marks increases the chance of an inaccurate cut, and not all users can move the marks and maintain accuracy.

    I just got my ES Mat today, but i dont know, where or how to place the 2 strips. Do i have to remove something ? It would have been very helpful to see , where to place the strips.
    Sorry for my bad english.

    • @SilhouetteSecrets
      @SilhouetteSecrets  2 месяца назад

      There is a piece of paper in the box with the strips that show a diagram of where they go when they need replaced. For now, you need to save them and if you ever need to replace them you'll have them. They are the frosted strips where the rollers roll on the ES bed on either side of the part of the bed that moves.
      I recommend keeping and storing the ES bed in the box when not in use and store completely flat. I keep my strips and the paper in the box for safe keeping.

    Hi, could you answer a question for me? Will the wheels of the Cameo 5 roll in the "ditch" between the electrostatic mat and the 1/2" wide edge piece? That's what the manual seem to be indicating on the diagram (and the leftmost stationary wheel rolls in the ditch). However...the manual also says that the wheels will be "on the transparent film," but my transparent film isn't wide enough to cover the "ditch" where the wheels would roll. Is this a problem? I'm just trying to avoid breaking my new machine. This is a replacement machine from Silhouette because the roller wheels on the first Cameo 5 I had cracked and broke apart after just a few uses. I think that is probably an issue of the wheels not being made very well, but...I want to be as careful as possible...thanks so much for your help!

    • @SilhouetteSecrets
      @SilhouetteSecrets  Месяц назад

      The rollers are supposed to go in the ditch on either side of the electrostatic bed, not on the protective sheet.
      The transparent film they are referencing is the transparent strips that are in the ditch on either side. In the box, you also received replacement ditch transparent strips with instructions on how to replace those when needed.
      The roller on the Cameo 5 was a manufacture defect that they identified, tracked to a specific manufacturer, and resolved... there may still be defective rollers out there on machines, but eventually they will all be known. It was not all machines, so they can't just recall everything.

    A second question...thank you. Again, on a Cameo 5, with an ES Mat. I want to cut something on Letter size cardstock in a Landscape orientation. However, when I choose the Orientation: Landscape, it only turns the image of the ES Mat itself to Landscape, not the media. My workaround, for the moment, is to tell it to make the media 12x12, but the cut lines aren't accurate to the project I'm trying to do, so not ideal. Any thoughts? Thanks so much.

    • @SilhouetteSecrets
      @SilhouetteSecrets  Месяц назад

      That is a bug in the software version and is fixed later in a Beta version I believe that is still under testing.
      I'd recommend cutting in Portrait orientation, but rotate your design.

      Bizarrely, even though I have ES Mat and Media exactly where the cutting lines show (both in vertical orientation with my project turned sideways), it started cutting OUTSIDE the cut lines, into my ES transparent sheet! Am I not supposed to line up the media with the front and side edges of the transparent mat? This thing is about to go back in the box... 😬I just wondered if there was a bug with that, too. I am using software version 4.5. Maybe I just need to start again tomorrow... UPDATE: I am using my original Cameo and it is working great...

    I thought this would be a tutorial on setting it up. She didn't show us how to actually put the electrostatic protection sheet, although she kept telling us that it's essential to put in in correctly, but then she didn't show us how. We're supposed to adjust the pinch rollers, but she didn't do that either.

    • @SilhouetteSecrets
      @SilhouetteSecrets  6 месяцев назад

      I do mention there is a direction of the mat. As I mention, it should not be under the rollers. If it is, then it's wrong. That is something you will see when you place it on the bed. The protective sheet has no designation on it, so there isn't anything I can show. The protective sheet is wider one direction than the other.
      The rollers need to be set up for a 12" cutting mat. My machine was already unboxed and used, so I did not mention moving the rollers.

    I'm really getting the idea that this electrostatic mat is either a lot of trouble to use or just doesn't work well and is quite useless. Everyone talks about it and hardly no one actually demonstrates it. Those that do demonstrate it tend to end up with a mess. I would love one, but the information on what materials you can actually use and people actually using and reviewing it is so sparse that I'm holding off my Cameo 5 purchase altogether. Not going to spend money on a device that might be a hit and miss and doesn't save time at all. Hoping for videos that will actually demonstrate this with various materials instead of just talking about it. Since this is the main new feature on the Cameo 5, one would think that there would be tons of videos about it, but the absence of them makes me have second thoughts about upgrading.

      So first, the new products were just announced 3 months ago and have not been available even that long.... around 2 months or so. Some retailers don't have stock yet, so you will not see them promoting it or putting out content on it.
      I've had great success with the Electrostatic bed and have several videos on the RUclips channel using it with the Curio 2. All the same tips work with the ES Bed no matter which machine model.
      It will take practice and proper setup. I've cut vellum, sticker paper, 65 lb cardstock, 85 lb cardstock, 110 lb cardstock (not coverstock), and adhesive vinyl using it. User error will be a big factor.... if someone isn't willing to take the time to set it up properly and/or is using materials that aren't completely smooth and flat, then it will not work properly for them. It will be around for awhile since it is brand new, so no rush to get one.

      @kevinleong4467 then your protective sheet is different than the ones with the first machines released. They were not square, and I show that in the video I linked where the protective sheet is under the rollers when placed the wrong way, which will cause issues.
