Well done Clive. Performing in front of the world and putting yourself forward for folk to pick the bejasus out of you is really difficult and mega brave. I've seen a whole lot worse from folk who've been at it for a long time. Some great images as well from my favourite part of the world. Good luck with your enterprise,

Very good first vlog to be fair and you could see the improvement throughout the duration of the vlog as well. I often (very often) make a mistake when I am speaking to the camera, so just repeat (sometimes several times) what I wanted to say and then edit it all back home. I spent a day with Chris 2 years ago, in the Lakes and really enjoyed the day, as well as picked up a few very good pointers. It reminds me of when me and my brother both decided to take up golf many years ago, he went for lessons and became a very good player. I thought I would save a bit of brass and ended up selling by clubs 18 months later, when my hair fell out! It will be interesting to watch your channel develop and you were right - there was a shot at Brotherswater, a dam fine one as well. Cheers and good luck, Alan
Alan - thank you for your input and kind words. Yes, Chris is a very good teacher and I am very glad I spent two days with him. He is much more generous than the 'megastar' RUclipsrs out there who seem to be building a clique for the self re-inforcing each other channels. They are constantly appearing together to cross-fertilize their own channels I suspect and keeping it to themselves. Chris, on the other hand, is prepared to help starters rather than exclude them!
Excellent vlog Clive, I came over from Chris Channel and I have subscribed. It's brilliant to see a new startup and what a great job you did. Chris, you did a great job instructing one of my favourites.

Great first vlog Clive - left a comment on Chris's vlog also which was meant for you! Chris and a few others inspired me to start vlogging about 15 months ago now and I love it. Just remember to be yourself, and let your personality come through. Good luck with it, I've subbed
I will certainly check it out, great to see your teaching with Chris and the first video you have done, it will be great to see your progression. Also some beautiful photography too, looking forward to future vids
Andrew Criswell yes i have made a little content on the channel previously but as you noticed its not first person or voiced over. The videos from 24th Dec are now what o consider proper vlogs.
I certainly couldn’t vlog, so well done you and some nice images too. I watch a lot though and my feedback would be relax, smile a bit and imagine you are talking to your dearest friend. If you can connect with us, that’s half the battle. Paul Compton is a great example of making us feel he is talking directly to us. I also found the drone footage somewhat jerky. Adam Gibbs is brilliant at it and worth a look. Good luck for your future vlogs, enjoy!
Val Payne thank you - adam gibbs is brilliant i will try but as an ex IT person the being a real person bit is not easy for me - but thank you anyway and i hope you enjoy my different take on cresting pictures - all the best.

Couple of things i noticed: I personally think that the footage is kind of dark/under-exposed. Maybe a little more brightness would have made an improvement. The drone shots were good, but I don't personally like the camera movement because it looked unnatural. A suggestion would be to steady the camera and its direction should depend on where the drone is looking at/flying to. Clive, firstly, great job very well done, my only issue is a minor one, when talking to your audience (me), make eye contact, look into the lens, you appear to be looking over my left shoulder. Now I understand fully why you check the screen, to see where you are pointing to is correct etc but it will make a big difference. Anyway very well done, will be keeping an eye on your progress.
Thank you very much - yes it's not easy to look at the camera but I am getting used to it now - everything was new to me but I will get more confident and comfortable - now I have my own gear I will be able to do much more practicing - thanks again
Well done Clive, off to a good start. I am also based in Kent and hoping you might introduce me to places around here to photograph i don't know about. Can't wait for your next vlog and good luck with it all.
Great start, Clive. In terms of camera work, be careful with the panning on the drones because it's a bit jarring. You really want to cut into a shot when the movement has started and cut out before it stops. Video is all about achieving those smooth movements, although that's not always possible. Also, sound wise, make sure the music isn't blocking your voice. There are a few moments in here where it's competing with what you're saying. The way to get around that is either to dip the music when you speak (your editing tool should have something to do this) or cutting a notch into the music with an EQ (which is probably a bit complicated for now). Don't be afraid of having music over your title screens. You're doing a fantastic job so far and I can see the beginnings of an amazing channel here.
@@SteveMellorPhotography thnk you - there is a lot of talk about variable ND filters to slow shutter speed to approx 1/60 in bright conditions to achieve a cinematic appearance to the footage - is this that important on RUclips ?
Clive Talbutt No, not really. Originally, changing the shutter speed was nothing to do with making it look like a cine clip, it was to remove the banding you get when digital cameras pan. Of course, that’s also inadvertently mirroring what you’d do with a film camera, so the images look closer anyway. There are photography channels that have that very stylised look. Peter McKinnon is one of them and very successful too. He is using much higher-end cameras, however, with video captured in high dynamic ranges. Even so, there are vast swathes of his channel which is done using a go pro. Look at other photography channels, especially from U.K. RUclipsrs and you’ll see a vast range of cameras used. Some of them use that cinematic look and others don’t. The big thing seems to be that the information on those channels is a) connecting with an audience and b) helpful to new viewers. Unless your video is atrocious (which yours is far from being) the message you’re getting across is more important than the method you use. But, it can be fun trying out the method. It’s also worth mastering one shooting method before trying another because all of the skills you build are transferable. One of the best things I think I’ve done is to shoot my b-roll at 60fps so it can be slowed down in the edit. It smooths things out a little, especially when you start to do camera movement.
@@SteveMellorPhotography Excellent input make thanks for such an in-depth reply - I will take on board the content being the most important part over everything else. - best regards
Well done Clive that was a pretty decent effort! Your images speak for themselves so the more you vlogging you do the more seamless the video will become! Your going to do great because your already very clear and confident in front of the camera. Chris isn’t half bad is he lol 😂
Thank you very much - it goes to show what being in the company of someone very talented does for one's confidence - would strongly recommend taking instruction fro Chris if you wanted to go this way as well!
My only advice would be very easy on the sticks when getting drone shots. The twitchy turns aren't very pleasing. With that said, this was very good for your first vlog.
Great first Vlog Clive, enjoyed watching it. When it comes to music I like it but not so much when you talk. It´s better to mute the music while you talk about the image. The drone photage in the beginning was a bit too long and try to work on the smoothness when you pan or turn the drone. Enough of that hard critigue. Thumbs up from me and I hit the sub. I hope to see more videos and see how you grow as a Vlogger. Hope Lofoten will turn out great. Cheers!
many thanks and i appreciate the critique - all good point - if you see some of my more recent ones you will find I am lowering nut not completely removing the music. Thanks for subscribing and I wish you all the best
I’ve come across from Chris’ site having watched his tutorial video, which was interesting in its own way. - Excellent first video Clive. You come across as a real natural on this kind of thing and I’m sure future videos will be as interesting - I wouldn’t know where to start on doing this or flying a drone either. Anyhow, have subscribed and look forward to your next venture. Mike.
Great images Clive and well done on your first vlog, I know how difficult these are to make. Found your channel via Chris’s and now I’m hooked in and looking forward to seeing your next vlog. Keep it up.

Love your shots Clive. You do look like a natural behind the camera. One thing would be nice if you could let use know F stop, iso and shutter speed when you are taking the shot..... Thanks and good luck with your channel....
Hey Clive - thats actually a really good first effort - Well done. The first few are simply daunting but it gets easier. Relax (which will come). Good subscriber count too for your first one. Thats the power of collaborations as well. Production is often impoved greatly by splitting out your audio, and fading/ splicing that after the footage has faded to black. I dont use my drone very much and found the only way I could really do it justice is (like with Chris said re the 10s footage) fly the drone for 10s in straight lines and then you can always do some (limited) Ken Burns in it to make it appear like it is changing direction. Good job though. Ill stick you a subscribe. Happily help if you like. Good luck. Ewan (NZ)
Sorry for the delay responding to you - thankyou for the detail response I hope I am improving as time goes on and all of this video milarky gets more natural - thanks for watching
Brilliant first vlog (found you via Chris's vlog). You photography is also amazing so you have a new subscriber here. Great job though, congratulations and I look forward to more of your content!

Clive Talbutt - thanks. Yes I got a notification that "someone’ had liked my post/comment, but I was curious to know who it actually was. I always feel that comments help the original poster to know who they can liaise with and what it was that was liked about the comment. At least you can tell who has read the post/comment. Did a great job looking forward to see how you progress think Chris sale did a great job tutoring you
Thank you - sorry for the delay getting back to you ;-)
Nicely done! A great start to 2020! 👏👏👏
Thank you - sorry for the delay getting back to you ;-)
So this was my first video - how do you guys think the channel has gone nearly two years in adn 180 videas .... ?
This video did not look like your first. well done! - I just subscribed
Thank you very much - it goes to show what being in the company of someone very talented does for one's confidence - would strongly recommend taking instruction fro Chris if you wanted to go this way as well!
Great job my friend! Stunning images too!
Thank you - sorry for the delay getting back to you ;-)
Good first effort Clive looking forward to seeing more.
Thank you - pleased you like it - however, I have set myself a tall order to keep up and improve the standard!
Well done Clive, excellent first vlog and I look forward to seeing many more. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you Andy - this means a lot to me that people are positive and I appreciate your time and input here - merry xmas to you and yours.
Andy if you were thinking of going the same way in the future - the two days I spent with Chris Sale were very informative and very worth the expense.
My only advice would be very easy on the sticks when getting drone shots. The twitchy turns aren't very pleasing. With that said, this was very good for your first vlog.
Tim Standaert Yes, I agree with your constructive comments, especially that it is a grest start.
For a first video this was very good, Slightly jerky on the drone footage, LOVE the image shown at 3:30 (ish)
Thank you - sorry for the delay getting back to you ;-)
Come over from Chris's Channel, very well done Clive, far better than my first Vlog. Subscribed.
Graeme Cave thank you - a trial by ordeal for me but getting there now slowly - best wishes
Well done Clive, excellent for a first attempt. wishing you best of luck with your channel. And i love your final image, excellent composition...
Thank you - I hope what I am doing is meeting peoples expectations and you guys are still watching, liking and subbing!
Excellent first video Clive. You come across as a real natural on this kind of thing and I’m sure future videos will be as interesting - I wouldn’t know where to start on doing this or flying a drone either. Anyhow, have subscribed and look forward to your next venture. Mike.
Thank you - sorry for the delay getting back to you ;-)
Great images Clive and well done on your first vlog, I know how difficult these are to make. Found your channel via Chris’s and now I’m hooked in and looking forward to seeing your next vlog. Keep it up.
Thank you - pleased you like it - however, I have set myself a tall order to keep up and improve the standard!
Was referred here from Chris Sale's channel. A super first vlog Clive. Very informative and enjoyable. I have subscribed in order to see your progress. All the best.
Thank you - I hope my subsequent vlogs are still on course??
Love your shots Clive. You do look like a natural behind the camera. One thing would be nice if you could let use know F stop, iso and shutter speed when you are taking the shot.....
Thanks and good luck with your channel....
Hi - I will try to include that info as annotations in the video moving forward - good point
What lake district? There are probably thousands of lake districts in the world.
I think the other title gives the clue - where do you live?
Brilliant first vlog (found you via Chris's vlog). You photography is also amazing so you have a new subscriber here. Only things I noticed and I'm not criticising at all!... music volume when talking, drone footage looked a tad stuttery on my tv and I would also like to know the settings either verbally or with a caption on the image. Great job though, congratulations and I look forward to more of your content!
Sizer hi and thank you for your kind comments - yes chris told me off for the music volume - i will include more info on the shots as i get more confident - best wishes
When someone likes a comment on RUclips, any idea how to view who added the "like".
hi as far as i know - no there is no way but subs and comments are emailed back to the content provider - does that help?
Clive Talbutt - thanks. Yes I got a notification that "someone’ had liked my post/comment, but I was curious to know who it actually was. I always feel that comments help the original poster to know who they can liaise with and what it was that was liked about the comment. At least you can tell who has read the post/comment. Guess I’m old school lol.
