Came here to watch Tosin play, left wanting this pedal.
***** To be fair, they're marketing something actually good.
***** Which is why free market kicks ass.
1:09 sounds like me after Taco Bell. You can come listen to me defecate everywhere and get better riffs.
Headrush Wow, you drop some percussive logs dood.
Getting to see Tosin tomorrow for an Ibanez clinic here in the Philippines! Cannot wait! Such a overwhelming feeling that a guitar hero is coming all the way here. Can't wait till I may get to see you too, Keith! Both of you are such big inspirations for extended range playing for me :D
Frankly I can't imagine Tosin's clean sound being anything but hard compressed.
One of the guys at my local Guitar Center went to college with Tosin and thought "Dang this guy is way up there he's goin places" sure enough here he is.
0:28 NATURAL FINISHED KM 7 IN THE BACKGROUND!
It might be just the lightning, but Damn I hope you're right
+Obama Bin Black Man Propane powered internet is super fast, I can be anywhere online I want.
*****
I am just spreading the word of propane powered things to new people.
Man, I love watching Tosin just talk about guitar stuff.
He's so well spoken and seems to really know and care a lot about what he says.
Should teach university when he calls it quits on recording / touring.
This video was pretty cool. I also just came here to see Tosin play and ended up really wanting this pedal. He had talked about using a compression pedal before but I didn't know what he used. I love how the guy adjusted the pedal while he played riffs from his album over and over again and you could very clearly hear the difference. Ever since I first heard Animals as Leaders I've wanted to try to bring some of that sound to my own playing, especially in the clean work. This pedal seems like it would be a good start.
Keith and Tosin. Nice!
I ordered a Vise Grip yesterday :) super excited to see what it can do for myself!
Them Duncans sound mighty tasty, beautiful playing, and I just might have to get this pedal
I am excited Tosin is gonna be in Manila next week. My body is ready
Double thumbs up for Crescent
those duncans sound wonderful in that TAM
and that pedal damn nice!
Wow, I can't believe I only just realized how Tosin completely broke the boundaries of guitar playing. He is constantly doing things that I didn't know were possible.
Also I really want this compressor; I've been debating for months now which one to get and I've finally settled on this one.
Amazing musician and guitarist. He's like one with the instrument!
Cool demo, to the point.
Fantastic sounds ;)
Greatest video ending ever!
1 person voted this down because it should have been an hour long instead of 4 minutes. Super nice playing, crazy to watch Tosin play with what looks like such little effort.
Must be an awesome feeling having slumber parties with legends.
The master in Keith's studio.
my man's is LIT in this video lmao you know they toked up before shootin this
Wow. HUGE difference.
Okay, is the rig profile they used on the exchange yet? :)
What song is he playing at the start of the video
i just fuckin love this guy.
How would it work for bass?
He's a god.
is he using the 805?
how does the kemper interfere with an OD?
What do you use for your synth at the beginning??
Wonder the compressor is close to the guitar or the overdrive comes first.
That economy of motion is absolutely insane
More like the joy of motion😂
I want this pedal!
Also compression is the sort of thing guitarists don't really tend to think about.. but really should. And this seems like a pretty good example.
So he's now with both sd and kemper?
That KM-7 Natural Finish spoiler at 1:50
Pablo Madriz I hope so. NIce catch.
he's so sick...I hope he'd recover well,...is it communicable sickness?, i would gladly have this disease...
0:44 isn't it high, mid and FULL? as in full signal
So, does he use the Kemper now? Or still the Fractal?
Yeah, but does it djent and/or thall?
Awesome
My lower-end brain can't interpret your knob turns but I'm sure it's great.
so, he is with seymour duncan now?
not using DiMarzio?
Tosin!
What song is he playing in the intro?
It's Crescent from joy of motion.
ROCK ON
So has Tosin become a Duncan pickup artist too? Or was he just asked to use Duncan pups for a Duncan pedal vid?
P.s. Keith, are you gonna start doing your own original songs and demos again?
***** the funny thing is that the hardware is different from his signature ibanez guitar. The bridge, tuners and pickguard. Maybe it was just for the purpose of this video.
Pedro Iago That's because it's one of his older customized Ibanez Prestiges, not his signature model.
Jacob Morgan I thought so. hahaha!
I don't think he's going to change his DiMarzio Pups for SD pups.
Jacob Morgan I like how the TAM100 is a completely new instrument and the affordable versions are based off of his other prestige models.
***** The guitar he's using in this video is an Ibanez LA Custom Shop RG8 with Seymour Duncan Nazgul/Sentient pickups. But, as for Tosin's actual sig, it still has Dimarzio Ionizers in it. That hasn't changed. I believe he's still affiliated with Dimarzio. However, because Keith Merrow works for Seymour Duncan, my guess is that he has an obligation to use SD pickups in his videos, and Tosin was just cool enough to oblige. That, and yeah, it's also a Duncan pedal, but again Keith works for SD.
Fucking knew tosin was playing with some sd's!if keith keeps converting people from dimarzio to sd then I'll know he's the Messiah of tone! The next one keith should switch is John petrucci! Of he does that!....well the end of the world will occur! Lol
Add paul gilbert to that list and I'm sold
djguzzy10 No matter who he converts, I'm still a DiMarzio guy. Haha
djguzzy10 I think the reason people stick with the same brand for so long is because they know what they're going to get. To me, trying a new pickup is a huge gamble because I am spending money, and the time and effort of installing them. I have always played Duncans, and I probably always will simply because I already know that I like them.
Was the melodic riffing at the end improvised or part of a song? If so I would appreciate the name :)
the daedric prince of dank memes cheers man
3:33 sounds beautiful
Never knew he will try SD nor did I knew he'll try a kemper
Anyone tried this with bass?
Where's the name of the intro song?
+JoelMetal The song is Crescent from The Joy of Motion
Doesn't all his effects come from his Axe Fx? I know for a fact that live, he doesn't use any sort of auxiliary pedals.
atyourlasthourrr Maybe he does now. I'm pretty sure this pedal didn't even exist when he made the songs he played in this video.
The Zerk I'm well aware of that. I've just heard him mention several times on several interviews and articles that for touring purposes, he likes to bring as little as he can for consistency. However, I'm sure that he's using all kinds of pedals in the studio.
atyourlasthourrr He definitely uses just the Axe FX as of when I saw AAL last fall. The only pedals he had was the board designed for the Axe FX. Maybe he's going a bit more organic now, though? I dunno.
I would always advise people to put a noise gate before compression. Because unfortunately compressors don't know the difference between notes and line noise/feedback.
Why does Tosin only lock two of the nuts?
+Deavon Strode Doesn't look like he's locked the nut at all
Because it's not a Floyd Rose bridge. It doesn't has a whammy bar, just the microtuners.
min 3:33 anyone know if this is a song? its cool!
Abelucho air chrysalis in case you havent found it out yet haha
Alright I like where this is going. Now bring Loomis and Andy James in the mix and we're golden.
such an intelligent man damn
I bought this pedal because of Tosin. If I can't play like him immediately after receiving this pedal then I'm burning all of my AAL merchandise (including Mestis stuff)!!! Jk jk. I did buy it because of Tosin though.
Tosins fingers look like he's been changing his oil.
Slow motion hands man :D
Love his playing, but I've always felt like his style would be so much better without so much compression...tiny intricacies in the way he expresses his work get lost in the mix when he slams the signal like he does. Adding that much compression to a modeller makes his tone so sterile...that sustain tho...
The mix between finger and pick playing really needs the compression to even out the sound. His finger style would be way quieter without it.
All these people have crazy ass thumbs haha
All I see is a free guitar lesson.
He failed to mention that the guitar also makes a big difference.
slesperado What makes the difference is the skill you have to play guitar.
***** One of my guitars cancels all of the notes that are tapped on frets 15 and up, regardless of how much force is applied. A guitar makes a difference.
slesperado You're both wrong. The key to a ripping tone is the tightness of the pants. You need that natural compression to add some balls to your sound.
why aren't the nuts on the guitar?
Nevertheless, this is mindblowing!
kilipeti My guess would be that the tremolo is blocked, and the locking nuts removed so he can change tunings easily. I like to keep my trem floating and the nuts locked, but you can't change tuning on the fly like that. So every now and again, I'll take the locks off and block the trem, so I can go between standard, Eb, drop d, etc.
Will Anderson That's not a floating trem in the first place, that's an EDGEIII fixed bridge, it is used with the double-locking nuts in order to keep tunings better, the need of which I'm not really convinced about...
So then here's this video with his locking nuts off... :D Not great advertising imho.
kilipeti Oh that's not a trem? Weird. Yeah, without a floating trem, locking nuts are totally pointless. Especially with decent locking tuners.
Chonnnnnn
Great player and beautiful guitar, except the headstock, damn, if it was a rorschach shape i'd say it's a di*k..
Hmmm. I guess it IS true then. Black ones ARE longer and fatter.
sounds like poop!
do not like this sound..
Not that impressed with his playing, that's just my opinion
+The Reaper I've watched a bunch of his stuff still not impressed
Ok duder...
+The Anunnaki Segovia, Vai, Gilbert, Azagthoth, LaRocque, Schuldiner, Murray, Satriani, Roth. I'm not saying this guys not good, I just don't like his style. Not everyone has the same opinion.
This is so DJENT it's not even funny.
i am so sick about 8, 9 string... its fkn stupid guitar
