I sold 10 Rolex and various luxury watches such as IWC, Jaeger LeCoultre, Omega, & Glashutte Original to return to primarily wear Seiko. The impact on horological history by Seiko is as significant as any of the aforementioned brands.
@@heljestrand Exeactly! Started with Rolex, JLC, Carrier and found my way to Seiko - once you get past the hype you realize how well built Seiko Luxe, LX and GS really are. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Agreed! I started with seiko made my way into some more luxurious brands like iwc tudor Rolex omega Glashütte but found my way back to seiko 😀 I love my seiko Uemura!
I couldn't agree more Erik. I recently picked up my brand new SLA049 Uemura for £1100 gb here in the UK discounted from £3200 gb. An insane deal for a beautiful watch which I couldn't pass up. I am a Seikoholic and own way too many from vintage through to modern. They are an absolutely brilliant brand. I also own a couple of older Breitling models, a SuperOcean Professional and an Aerospace and the SLA definitely compares in quality. Thanks for the great content Erik
All nice looking Seiko watches. Half of my meager collection is Seiko, and even at the cheap end the shine and sparkle on my SNKL23J1 is insane. I really bought it to give my son when he’s a bit older, but it’s such a great deal I may snag another for myself. There’s one slot left in my box and I have no divers so this might be something to look at since Grand Seiko doesn’t have anything I just have to have.
@@jh-il5sb Have to buy on Watchuseek etc. The watch boards are where the deals are. Also, search the following - "Seiko SLA watch recon" . Thus will show the people selling and where buy. Thanks for watching!
Most people don’t understand that Seiko makes a wide range of watches from a couple hundred dollars to about $7000 dollars. Generally you get what you pay, I also bought the SLA055 brand new recently and paid 30% less than list price because the dealer had it for 2 years and wanted to move it so I bought it. It’s a fantastic movement similar to the 9S used in Grand Seiko and it has the Grand Seiko ever brilliant steel and the zuratsu polishing. Basically it’s a basic Grand Seiko without the Grand label on it.
Your SLA055 pickup was a great decision. I picked that up last year in a trade for a BB58. It is one that made me quit browsing other divers. The high end special edition seikos are superb
10 years ago things were alot cheaper and not just that most of these cheap seikos were grey market selling significantly below retail. I think you'll find that the profit margins are much smaller than you realize after you factor in the cost of running a fully vertically integrated company, advertising, AD networks/cut the list goes on and on. There are plenty that appreciate all of this and are willing to pay.
I recently was on a Seiko kick, not because of the grey market prices, but because of FOMO and the direction Seiko is going. I bought an SLA023 last spring, when the newest Marinemaster was just announced because I wanted to be able to have that beefy, over-engineered, monocoque case.
Seiko can have big discounts in you are patient. Bought a sla059 new for $1700 unused new. My sla055 came from Japan as a JDM. Think it was new around $3800? My 055 is on a vintage bor bracelet right now. Beyond stunning watch! It seems like it also depends on which model. Some are selling for as much, or more than new.

Seiko watches were affordable 10 years ago. Not any more. Aliexpress brands like San Martin are offering astonishing quality watches with Seiko movements at a tenth of the price. Exposes the huge margins the big brands (many who use the same chinese factories) are making. Unfortunately we could see a repeat of the quartz crisis and the big brands will only have themselves to blame.
Yeah that's not going to happen. The Chinese brands will cannibalize themselves before they even get close and they won't get close because they only appeal to a very niche buyer (spec junkies). Seiko are in the market at every level and cater to every type of buyer
