Well done research in finding some rare Sgt. Pepper footage and interesting insights. The Sgt Pepper album's impact really was that it was the first pop album that people really listened to as a sensual listening experience as opposed to just music to dance to. The Beatles invented Prog-Rock here as yet another of their vast number of innovations. Yet another great presentation.
Thank you. Their cultural and musical impact cannot be overstated. Hard for each successive generation to appreciate how innovative this music was at the time and how much it has influenced all the music that has been recorded since.
Wow! I feel like I just experienced a history lesson. Jeff. I've learned so much about each of the sergeant pepper's songs And how each one was made, why each one was made, etc. So much history. The Beatles are awesome. Were. I guess they still are. Thanks for the great biography into this album. Jeff!
Another great Beatle morning! ☕️Thanks Jeff, I always learn something new by watching your deep dives. It still amazes me the amount of history they have in the short time they were together. I don’t think any other band has achieved that, and it’s still going strong thanks to people like you that keep it interesting and entertaining.☺️
Fantastic again Jeff!! This series is so good, personally i think this may be the most important album ever recorded, it’s an absolute masterpiece, being my 5th favorite Beatles album is in no way a slight but really just an affirmation of the greatness of the greatest band of all time! Thank you so much for this brother 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤘🤘
Thank you brother and your assessment is spot on. It’s not my favorite Beatles album either but that’s only because there are so many other fantastic ones. ✌️✌️👍👍
The opening interview montage on this video is especially well put together. You managed to offer a look at Sgt Pepper's that feels unique, even after all that's been said about it over the years, Jeff.
You've done it again . Another wonderful overview of this album . Very well done ! I still like this album a lot , even though I would place it behind Rubber Soul ( US version ) , Abbey Road , A Hard Day's Night , and the White album in terms of my favourite Beatles' albums . Revolver is right there with it as well . There's lots of great songs on it , and it's still an enjoyable album . Cheers !!
Cheers! I would probably rank this number 5 in my favorites behind Abbey Road, White Album, Rubber Soul (US) and Revolver. It’s a great listen and a valuable time capsule.
Another fantastic DD! Some more really great footage and interview excerpts. I wish the Beatles would have went back to touring later in their career after PA systems were becoming better. Just think of some of the live recordings we could have had. Think of Stones Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out. Sgt Pepper isn’t my favorite Beatles album, maybe not in my top five, but that’s just my taste. There’s no denying the greatness of this album or its influence and originality. I’m enjoying this series and always look forward to your next outing! (Michael Nesmith sighting!)
Thanks Gary! That’s a great point about touring. The Stones took a break in 1967 and ‘68 and then came stronger than ever. I think the Beatles got too comfortable off the road (and maybe a bit lazy) It would have been so cool to hear songs from this late period live.
That's Domino Lady Madonna Since Paul was impersonating fats, it's really cool that he had done his version of this song in the early '70s. It's really swell. For some reason, that's also performs LOVELY RITA
As we cruise to the 60th anniversary of this album, (Are there better 1960s records? SURE) But there are very few like this one…, everyone owns a copy. It’s almost become the recording that everybody must have in life.
My brother bought for me this album after I won a bet. I forget how much it cost; a little less than 3 dollars maybe. He had given me a five-dollar bill and was greatly upset that I didn't bring back the change that he expected. Of course, I could only get the mono mix, which to this day, I insist is the ONLY way to hear this record. Amazing how polite The Beatles were to newspaper reporters. When that guy mentioned the great songs that the group had written like 'Yesterday' and 'Michelle', the later John Lennon would have thrown a fit! Here, he just smiled.... I was actually upset when I first saw a photo of Paul McCartney with a moustache. What's going on here? Are The Beatles aging into overly serious "adults"? (I was 10 years old, so give me a break!)
Against those interview clips are really make your deep dives worth their weight in every way Ringo's getting so old nowadays that he should have a song called WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY ENEMAS PLEASE DON'T SHOW ME THE COVER FOR THAT SINGLE
Hi Jeff! Sgt Pepper......it was as Earth-altering to pop culture as the Fabs' appearance on Ed Sullivan three years earlier. Pepper, although fantastic and deserving of its legend, is not the Beatles' best effort. I'll easily put Revolver and Abbey Road.....and probably Rubber Soul.....above it. So.....yes, on some level it is over-rated. Having said that, the opening four cuts (Title track, Help From My Friends, Lucy and Getting Better are KILLER and flow beautifully into each other. I've never been huge into Mr. Kite or George's Within You, Without You.....but the rest is great, even by Beatles standards. Oh yeah....A Day in the Life is arguably the greatest closing album song ever. Is Pepper a REAL concept album? Yes.....Lennon was wrong. Lucy and A Day in the Life and other songs had to be on Pepper. The concept of this weird named group playing these songs in front of an "audience" works. Even decades later.....and decades in the future. Sidenote: Yes, Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane would have worked on it.....but having them on a stand-alone single compliments Pepper the same way Paperback Writer and Rain compliment Revolver. They are like an appetizer for their respective albums. Great video once again!
Thanks! I am happy to have Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane on MMT, not sure where they would have slotted on Pepper anyway. I agree it is a concept album even if the songs themselves don’t carry forward a narrative or theme of any kind. Not like “Tommy” but certainly like The Who Sell Out.
I think that Sgt Pepper was the first album where the USA release was identical to the English release. It was culturally enormous but is it the best Beatles LP? Many now think it's down the list and many now say Revolver is better. I love every Beatles record and I rate the early albums very highly. Is it the best album ? They are all really good but if I had one album I could listen to and then that's it ,it would be Sgt Pepper. To me there are a lot of great LPs but this is the best.
"There aren't any more words." Classic George Harrison. White Album Jas always been my favorite. Not sure what I would call "The Greatest Album of All Time," but I like Dark Side of the Moon better than Sgt Pepper.

Awesome bro 👏
Fantastic man
The interview clips you find are amazing
Thank you

Thank you! I’m glad you learned some new information on the songs. To be honest I learned a lot myself researching these deep dives. 😃

Thank you! It almost seems like they were together 25 years considering how much ground they covered in their relatively short time together.
Your deep dives are amazing, not even a Beatles fan and every episode has been a fascinating insight into a remarkable band Great job Jeff!
Thanks! Maybe you will become a Beatles fan by the time the series is done. 😃

Thank you! That was the challenge in doing these videos. I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Oh yeah. That's just what I needed to watch this morning. So when is the deep dive coming for LOVE SONGS? HAHA.

Thank you bro

C Major to D Major is two semi tones.....Just sayin'......:) Great series. Loving these videos.
I admit I’m no musician! 😂

Exactly. No collection is complete without it.
Great album , not my favourite but a great album and a great nod to the OPP force 🙂
I always stick around until the end jeff.
Thank you!

Imagine getting a brand new album for under 5 bucks. Let alone Sgt. Pepper. The mono IS superior.
1967 was obviously the year of the moustache.
Yes for better or worse 😂

Haha…speaking of aging, Paul has never sounded older than he does on some of these recent interviews.
