Its so great to hear these old songs. It just shows how far we have come as nations. The german civ 6 theme is for example 300+ years old. This french one comes from the Renessaince! So many themes are old folklore songs who date back to times that are unimaginable for us today but at the same time they kind of sound very familiar. I mean you could go back 1000 years into the past and would still see some cultural parallels to todays countries. Its so fascinating to think that even when you are born this long after them that their lives and life lessions still echo through us and our cultures.
I thought France medieval theme is the best track I can find in this soundtrack. Then I found modern version and... I really, really like to be wrong this way :>
Parks her units at your boarders on like turn 35 ... Finally decides to attack at turn 156: "Ha ha, you never saw that coming, I only pretended to be your friend!" Ok, Kathy. xD I wish they gave us option to ask AI why are their units on your boarder or demand they move them, kinda like how they ask\demand from you.
Quand je bois du vin clairet Ami tout tourne, tourne, tourne, tourne Aussi désormais je bois Anjou ou Arbois Chantons et buvons, à ce flacon faisons la guerre Chantons et buvons, les amis, buvons donc
I personally like the Ancient and Medieval versions the most, the Industrial and Atomic versions sound more epic at the expense of losing the beautiful melody and rhythm of the composition. Yes, modern-sounding instruments and effects could be used, but not to lose the core melody and rhythm.
Anybody knows on which composition is the soundtrack based? It really reminds me every time of a Czech folk song called ''Batalion'' Edit: Nevermind, I realised that the text is not really focused about Bohemia or Moravia but more like France and the song is apparently based on a French 'Tourdion'' and the Civ composition is too :D
Representing France with an italian lady that held the regence during 10 years top is...quite a fail I'm afraid. why not pick like anyone more important (Louis XIV, Napoleon, Napoleon III, De Gaulle, Jeanne d'Arc, even Richelieu!)
You complain about a 10 years recency queen (who in reality rules France 40 years, 10 with her husband and 30 during her sons' reigns), and want Jeanne d'Arc, who won one important siege during 2 years generalship before being burnt ? Please be more logical. Now, question of choice that can be discussed, the developers wanted to make the players discover new interesting leaders for some civs instead of returning to other ones who have already been in the older games.
@@valentinlepissier5206 She pretty much was the impersonation of the "deep state" back in her days so your argument is extremely invalid. Also, Napoleon already was present in a previous occurence of the Civ series so there really is no need to bring him back. Also, De Gaulle was a political figure 50 years ago so there really is no need to put a spotlight on him, everyone pretty much the character already. Louis XIV is known by everyone too. If we listened to guys like you, we would pretty much always have Cesar as Rome.

@@baconman2.052 i feel, just my opinion, but fir England it's the atomic era
the "ancient theme" is a slow version of "tourdion"

A France ambient theme is from the 14th century--"When I return", by Guillaume de Machaut.
Sumeria is based off the Hurrian Hymn, which dates back to roughly 1400 BCE. and also happens to be my favourite theme in the game
What's best about that one is that it's a drinking song about waging war to a flagon of wine :D
i like the fact that for example the russian melody is known by the whole world, but the french melody is even not known by french people...
@@bsibbs2667 you sure ? I thought it was phoenicia's theme which was based on the hurrian hymn

I prefer Ancient theme myself.
The French medieval theme makes we want to taunt those English types a second time!

This is actually very good for learning music, to see this theme in 4 different versions.
Medieval era and Atomic era themes are absolute fire
It's Tourdion in case you are wondering.
That tune never leaves you once you've heard it.
Thanks ☺️
One of my favorites, along with Russia and Aztec themes
This is one of the few Civ themes where I actually like Ancient Era the best

Best medieval music
This, and Hungary's are my favorites.
This, and Arabia's theme are 👨🍳 💋.
Love it when France is in play so their theme fills the air
Never played as them though as I only play Spanish
This song is very similar to the song "The march of the sword master" of Rhapsody
march of the sword master is pretty much the tune of Touridion, that both pieces take inspiration from.
This is one of my favorites, together with Greece and England

Unique Era names for France
Ancient: Gauls
Classical: Franks
Medieval: Capetian
Renaissance: Bourbon
Industrial: Napoleonic
Modern: Republican
Atomic: De Gaule

Wouldn't it be better if it was Modern: De Gaulle and Atomic: Republican ?
