Fantastic video. Really appreciate the well thought presentation. There will be a limited release of the Button Lock Elementum on April 19th. They will go quick but there are more in production right now that will also be available soon. Keep up the great work!
Almost two years later this is still my favorite knife to carry. Strong and solid but thin. The detail and milling on the metal button is sick too. Just a great knife all around. And razor sharp with that deep hollow-grind.
I have all of the standard bladed 14c28n ones just for looking at them and customized myself a stonewashed one with the g10 scales as a user. This knife really is a masterpiece!
@@johndemtopics1377 it’s so nice mine still reminds me of a Solidworks render in real life.. that blade machining is absolutely top-notch. Ever looked at the button under a magnifier and good lighting? Surprised me just how much detail is on the tread.. like they went full-on badass when designing it. I prefer it over a $150 zdp189 Endura I bought.. by quite a big margin actually.

Great review. One of the few that understand the advantage of the mechanics of the knife. Unfortunately those that think it needs another means of deployment don't get it. Locked closed. With a detent it wouldn't be locked closed.
I didn't really understand that it locks when it's closed. I thought it had a detent. "Gravity/inertial knife" concerns aside, it's a really cool locking mechanism. Doesn't open unless you push the button. On the other hand, you have to sharply move the knife, with an awkward grip on it. It just begs for an accident with someone chucking the knife when trying to open it. Definitely of the "don't hand this to non-knife people" type of knives.
Love the video man! Just getting into collecting knives and I’ve just ordered this knife upon your recommendation and watching this video. My first Civivi, absolutely can’t wait to get it in the mail and try it out! I want to get into sharpening too! Thanks again man👍🏽
I ordered this exact knife (green micarta/black blade) two days ago. This will be my third attempt at trying to like Civivi. Hope third times a charm. Great video!
I completely agree that it would be nice if it had a flipper tab. I'm not great at wrist flicking and don't do well with thumb deployments. But, flippers are great. Where I disagree is about flipper tabs getting in the way. I really like having the flipper tab as an additional guard to keep my hand from slipping forward and getting cut on the blade. I really like how Civivi made it bigger than the original. Another great looking knife from Civivi. I thought they should have added another method of opening the knife but after watching this, I am starting to think it's fine the way it is. I also like how they used 14C28N. Great video once again Jerad.
I want a micro, mini, large, and a extra large elementum. Great vid and awesome sharpening. Button lock is cool but I'd still prefer some other deployment. Keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
Great!! Answer to my question before I could ask. Button lock for deployment before secondary deployment and that it locks up in pocket definitely. I'm all in waiting for mine to come in great vid 👍
I actually like the bottom only deployment. Super clean and it's not like there isn't options. I think the idea is to have a diverse line up. Some with 2 or 3 deployments, some for those that are looking for something not so cluttered. The real issue is that I'm guessing wobbly clip that equals an upgrade tax to upgrade it for like 12 to 15 bucks. I also get that too though, cheap clip nudges that MSRP down a tad while adding possible sale of upgraded clips for picky folks. Anywho, my 2 cents. I'm grabbing a blacked out one that's on sale today. The simple lines and good price just sidetracked me from a kizer assassin xl or begleiter xl. Ironically I want the begleiter for the multiple deployments and size lol

very nice video! i am considering to buy a elementum button lock or elementum 2 with additional deployment method. sharpening part is very helpfull, thank you :) cheers from Poland.
How are maintaining your edge angle when sharpening aroun the belly. It looks like. You are rocking the knife rather than rotating. Why do you prefer that way
The micarta is smooth like that because you can rough it up with sandpaper if you like it rougher, but a lot of people prefer smoother micarta and it is much harder to get canvas or burlap textured micarta to feel smooth. Most ways cause the micarta to look much different than it started out.
Yeah i believe i said i was going to take some sand paper to it as i usually do with smoother micarta, im also thinking about dying my other olive micarta, but its also from the kind of resin they use and the layering process, pressure exc but i still think its pretty decent ive seen alot worse for sure
@@NeevesKnives I love smooth micarta. The best I've found for what I like is on my QSP Hawk. They should be much more popular than they are. The penguin is ok but the hawk is much better. @@NeevesKnives I had too take the whole button out, idk exactly what the issue was, but the button would just get stuck too the left and the blade wouldn't lock open or closed.
Ive used buttonlocks and automatics with the same locks for over 20 years without failure. Its just a spring like in a clicky pen. In fact i lost a spring once in a benchmade auto and used a trimmed spring from a pen. The types of aprings that do fail are omega axis lock springs, coil springs and kershaw assist/ torsion bars. That said corrosion can kill any spring so don't let water pool around one for a long time
It would be nice addition to see cutting performance vs wood. For example most of Spydercos are totally useless for wood because of their design of blade. You cannot get comfortably enough force to cut wood with them.
@@NeevesKnives considering the crazy prices we pay in Australia, 14c is about the best value per dollar on most knives. I'm becoming a bit of a civivi fanboy too, if I'm honest haha.
Thanks 🙏 for taking the time to answer my question about 🙋♂️ damasteel vs Damascus I really appreciate it I just got the brazen but the kansept mujir is calling to me I own 5 civivi I think 🤔 always the brand I give as gifts 🎁
I really like that version of the elementum and love button locks...would prefer for blade not to be locked closed, but could probably get used to it for button only deployment.
Dang! Been waiting for one in that wild CF multicolor handle. 👍🤔👍 So..... If it's locked when shut a flipper couldn't open it. They'd need to change the lock mechanism to have a detent instead.
This knife suffers a lot of unwarranted and, more importantly, unfounded criticism…….and ( surprise, surprise ) it comes from folks that DON’T OWN ONE !!!! And yes I do…..and the longer I have it, the more sense it makes and the more I like it. The “ If it only had a flipper “ crowd need to “ Only have an Elementum button lock “ to know what they’re talking about……. Damn they’re sweet !!!!
NK,… I’m going back to freehand sharpening. I have Dia-Sharp Coarse, Fine and Extra-Fine 8” stones. I’d like to broaden that to a polish. The Venev infused stones you highlight here are not available anywhere. Other recommendations? My Extra Fine is 9 micro. They offer an Extra-Medium-Fine Dia-Sharp 6 micron and an Extra-Extra Fine Dia Sharp 3 micron but they are 130 bucks each. These plates are also frigging heavy! Thoughts?
You should be able to find or get the venev bench stones from gritomatic, they are also heavy, you should get a stone clamp if you don't already have one, the venev stones are also very expensive, you can also go with a spyderco ceramic ultra fine.
@@NeevesKnives Thanks but both the Phoenix and Dragon finer series 8X3 are sold out on the gritomatic site. Yes they are expensive but being double sided though not half the cost, they aren’t as expensive and at least half the weight if not more. I’d like to stick with diamond for consistent flatness. I do have a holder.
@@Doc.Holiday there’s other brands of resin bonded diamonds but I’ve only tried venev, but there’s cbn stones possibly available on there site, if your specifically looking for diamonds you might have to wait until they return IMO I wouldn’t get the regular diamond plates over 1200 grit because for the money you can get better stones that last far far far longer like venev
I'm fine with no flipper or thumbstuds but I have yet to handle it so I may change my mind after handling it for awhile. 14c28n is my favorite steel honestly.
That paper towel cut is a true testament. I also like that you use soapy water. What stone is that? ,really like how its double sided and how wide it is
Those are Venev industrial diamond stones, they are a Russian company you can get them as freehand stones or for systems like the kme, best stones ive tried
The original is the perfect size for an EDC. Just under 3" blade. And a handle just barely long enough for my four fingers. Along with the flat handle profile, it is the perfect balance between compact size and functionality. Fits so well in the pocket I hardly know its there. IMO they should have kept the original size small, and released a 4+" blade version for those that want a larger version
I personally rather have this size than a 4" a 3.5 inch blade is the perfect size for edc imo, its a full size without being to big and fits my hand perfect
@@NeevesKnives Ha. Well, maybe they should have made 3 sizes then! Each to their own. Maybe I'm biased. Just got my Elementum not long ago, and its my first EDC. I love it.
Just got mine yesterday (got the red cf shred/damascus version)...and i'm super bummed because it's got vertical blade play - any fair amount of pressure on the spine and the blade moves down a bit and I can hear it click/tap against the stop pin. I really like the overall feel of the knife itself though, and I don't miss a flipper tab or thumb stud at all.
Send it back! Ive had two with zero issues no play at all, first i would let it lock up a bunch of times and oil it to see if it just needs to settle in pkace but if that doesnt work have them replace or fix it
Is there any risk of the button being inadvertently depressed causing the blade to open inside your pockets? That’s the only concern holding me back really. I love the clean simplicity of it.
Also since it carries tip down the blade goes against the seem of your pocket which stops it from opening, unless you carry your knife right in the middle of your pocket, i personally keep it to the side
It’s simple really. If folks don’t like it they don’t have to buy it. I just got mine…dark green micarta. Love the extra blade and handle length. Love the lock shut aspect of the button. Love the clean, uncluttered lines. I love flippers but this knife would be less special if a flipper was there. Tired of liner locks. This is a breath of fresh air. PS: flipping this knife up, down, backward, spinning, flipping, etc., etc., etc. is gonna lead some moron into thinking they should be doing it too…gonna be some fingers on the floor! Just sayin’.
I believe you have some confusion about gravity knife. It wouldn't matter if the knife had 3 other deployment options. It's that it does not have a friction detent which holds the blade closed into the frame unless a determined force is nused to deploy the blade out into open position! No detent means it's a gravity knife. Any knife with button utilizing a spring, switch blade. Any knife with button and no friction means of retaining the blade in frame, gravity knife.
its amazing knife If they make one in m390 or s35vn with blade thickness 3.5 - 4 mm maybe titanium scales but still same button lock mechanics will kill the market a lot of people including me will pay top dollar really wish they to that .. will be the ultimate knife
So what is everyone's choice of this knife that they plan to order ? I can't decide between the olive or brown . But I kind of like the red and black also.
Hello. Thank you for an awesome review. I'm new to folding knife world, and currently looking for a nice edc knife that will last and stay with me for many years. For a few weeks i've been considering getting a Benchmade 940 Osborne with Green Anodised handle because i've read so many positive reviews and watched so many videos saying that 940 is awesome and very reliable. This is still my number 1 choice, but i just came across Civivi Elementum Button Lock in Damascus steel and gorgeous carbon fiber handle (either with blue or red accents), is this knife as good as a Benchmade 940 for edc (cutting boxes, tape, hiking, food prep, occasional wood work etc.)? I know that my question is probably quite silly, but i'll be investing in a knife that cost a lot to me, and i actually want to use it, not only look at it. What is your opinion?
So the Elementum is going to cut way better than the 940, the aluminum on the 940 will scratch also just something to keep in mind, the 940 has a great lifetime warranty which is great, and in the future you can always get a blade replacement for 20 to 40$ and it has life time free sharpening, although i dont reccomend doing that, both are great knives, the 940 is a bit stronger and the Elementum is better to use imo because it has great cutting geometry while the 940 doesnt.
Thank you so much for your quick reply. Reading this i am sure i want the 940 Osborne as a good all around knife (as it's strong, reliable and has great warranty etc., i also don't mind the future scratches on the aluminum handles as they will be so called "battle scars" and quite fancy it developing a patina). I will start there and maybe one day get another knife (i probably will) so i can rotate them and have fun like that. Thanks again.
People keep asking “why only one deployment method” well Civivi made this for the “sensitive” finger knife lovers in the community. The way they pump out models I’m sure the second deployment button lock Elementum’s are already sitting 70 miles off the coast of California.

So mine came in yesterday, and it opens absolutely fine, imo I prefer no thumbstuds or flipper.
Nice! Thats awesome yeah ive definitely grown on this thing
Does anyone have any idea of durability of a normal coil spring used in most other plunge locks vs the flat spring liner in this elementum?
I have 2 on preorder, and now I'm even more keen to get my hands on them lol. Great video mate, nice one!
Yeah your gonna loove it, the 14c is do e so good to, probably the best ive seen
@@NeevesKnives considering the crazy prices we pay in Australia, 14c is about the best value per dollar on most knives. I'm becoming a bit of a civivi fanboy too, if I'm honest haha.
@@RubyD80 if you love knives and using them its hard not to
Just won this knife in a giveaway and I couldn't be more happy
Nice!! Good for you!
Great video. I appreciate the review. Is that soapy water you spray on the stone or something else??
Thanks again 👍
Thanks 🙏 for taking the time to answer my question about 🙋♂️ damasteel vs Damascus I really appreciate it I just got the brazen but the kansept mujir is calling to me I own 5 civivi I think 🤔 always the brand I give as gifts 🎁
Yeah its definitely the ones i like to gift as well and highly reccomend
I really like that version of the elementum and love button locks...would prefer for blade not to be locked closed, but could probably get used to it for button only deployment.
Yeah you get used to and enjoy it very quickly, they size profile and grind makes it incredible
I will be getting one! Great looking edge! Thanks Jerad. ✌️
✌ 🙏
Dang! Been waiting for one in that wild CF multicolor handle. 👍🤔👍
So..... If it's locked when shut a flipper couldn't open it. They'd need to change the lock mechanism to have a detent instead.
No it wont but still pretty sweet imo, and i didn't think id like it so much
This knife suffers a lot of unwarranted and, more importantly, unfounded criticism…….and ( surprise, surprise ) it comes from folks that DON’T OWN ONE !!!!
@@NeevesKnives Thank you!
Have you got a chunk of rubber grafted to your right middle finger? How do you spydie flick that blade? My sausages won’t do that. So sad.
Yeah my hands are pretty rough, but using the side of your finger makes for more contact
I need to practice.😊👍🏼
Love your videos man! Thanks for all the great content! Hope you're all doing well my friend!
Thanks Steve! Hopefully you are as well
Man a Brigand with a flipper tab and the button lock would be the perfect button lock budget Malibu! Would buy that knife in an instant!
Yeah that does sound awesome
waiting on my preorder from knife center.cant wait to get it in hand.thanks for showing this.
Nice!!
Flipper tabs are so last year looks great as is.
As a lefty in a righty world I’m look at this like…would in enjoy this knife using my index finger to press the button.
I'm fine with no flipper or thumbstuds but I have yet to handle it so I may change my mind after handling it for awhile. 14c28n is my favorite steel honestly.
Its very awesome
That paper towel cut is a true testament. I also like that you use soapy water. What stone is that? ,really like how its double sided and how wide it is
Those are Venev industrial diamond stones, they are a Russian company you can get them as freehand stones or for systems like the kme, best stones ive tried
Well Jared, got to hand it to you another awesome job, and great content peace out
Thank you
The original is the perfect size for an EDC.
I love it.
i like it im just waiting for the mini version i like under 3 " blade length
Well the regular one is around 3 inches its not a button lock though
Looking forward to the button lock. Wonder if they will be available in Washington.
Does it lock closed ? Or can you open it without pressing the button ?
Just got mine yesterday (got the red cf shred/damascus version)...and i'm super bummed because it's got vertical blade play - any fair amount of pressure on the spine and the blade moves down a bit and I can hear it click/tap against the stop pin. I really like the overall feel of the knife itself though, and I don't miss a flipper tab or thumb stud at all.
Send it back! Ive had two with zero issues no play at all, first i would let it lock up a bunch of times and oil it to see if it just needs to settle in pkace but if that doesnt work have them replace or fix it
Awesome video just got knife - hey what’s that your spraying over stone? Soap?
Dish Soapy water
Is there any risk of the button being inadvertently depressed causing the blade to open inside your pockets? That’s the only concern holding me back really. I love the clean simplicity of it.
No i dont think so, i carried it through tight places crawling around in lofts, and much more, not unless you meant to,
Also since it carries tip down the blade goes against the seem of your pocket which stops it from opening, unless you carry your knife right in the middle of your pocket, i personally keep it to the side
@@NeevesKnives Good to know! Thanks! I’m assuming you meant to write tip up. Is tip up actually more secure when worn against the seem than tip down?
@@Snek03 yes i did mean that you know what i meant
@@Snek03 and yes tip up is more secure from a blade opening in your pocket
I want one real bad!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I got the black on black but I want the dark stonewash
It’s simple really. If folks don’t like it they don’t have to buy it. I just got mine…dark green micarta. Love the extra blade and handle length. Love the lock shut aspect of the button. Love the clean, uncluttered lines. I love flippers but this knife would be less special if a flipper was there. Tired of liner locks. This is a breath of fresh air. PS: flipping this knife up, down, backward, spinning, flipping, etc., etc., etc. is gonna lead some moron into thinking they should be doing it too…gonna be some fingers on the floor! Just sayin’.
Gotta have it. Any idea when it will be available?
Any time now
I believe you have some confusion about gravity knife. Any knife with button and no friction means of retaining the blade in frame, gravity knife.
its amazing knife If they make one in m390 or s35vn with blade thickness 3.5 - 4 mm maybe titanium scales but still same button lock mechanics will kill the market a lot of people including me will pay top dollar really wish they to that .. will be the ultimate knife
is it worth it over the regular one in wood coming out about the same price?
Imho absolutely
@@NeevesKnives i don't think ill be able to make first drop but ill eventually get one thanks for the review
I recently got the Elementum in Damascus and CF Boyeee!!!
Geeeyeah
what was that purp knife tho?...
The kizer swayback 👍
So what is everyone's choice of this knife that they plan to order ? I can't decide between the olive or brown . But I kind of like the red and black also.
I wanted the Green but they were all out so i chose Olive, and i think it looks great in person, I might try to dye my other one in olive just because
@@piotrwydmuch9413 it’s been a year. How many knives do you own now?
So cool 😎🤘🏼
People keep asking “why only one deployment method” well Civivi made this for the “sensitive” finger knife lovers in the community. The way they pump out models I’m sure the second deployment button lock Elementum’s are already sitting 70 miles off the coast of California.
When does the bloody thing come out?? Was supposed to in February....
Not completely sure should be very soon
Don't forget that versataaaallllity. ;)
What kind of stones are you using today, Jared? Are they in stock anywhere?
venev diamond stones
What is the blade steel?
14c28nsteel

@@dlife7427 Absolutely! I do love the size of the original Elementum but it really is a bit small for my hand so when I heard they were coming out with a larger Elementum I was so happy! I don't mind the button lock only deployment but it is a drawback for lots of people
