damn son, 3 extra mags ? im a police officer from germany and in my state we have just the mag in our gun. if something big goes down here, were basically fucked with just 13 rounds on us.
+Gubby-SL Funny thing about that....it isn't very funny. That sucks. I have a friend who was carrying a 16rnd .40 on his way to k9 training and got in the middle of a gunfight on the highway. His gun went dry and he ended up taking a round in his leg. Could have been much worse. After that I stopped carrying subcompact guns to training and court. I understand the social issues with having police armed up in Europe but limiting a man to one pistol and one mag and then asking him to go into situations that will put him at risk of getting into a shootout seems really irresponsible. Three mag carriers are becoming increasingly popular in the US. If the look of the magazines bothers people I don't see why they wouldn't let you just keep a spare in a pocket. P99 mags aren't that big.
i'm just going to wait until i get my life employment (means that they can't fire me unless i get a prison sentence over 1 year, which is pretty hard in germany anyway) and then i'm going to put some spare mags in my bag pack i mean we're not even allowed to carry tasers complete bullshit

Yeah its been amazing. It's a great school, and the kids are greater. Obviously a few bad apples, but it happens. You really see a whole new side to law enforcement, and can make a difference with the kids early on.
Talking about lack of belt real estate, I did gear sales for a while and one of my favorite customers was this tiny little pixie of a woman. She was mid-40's or so, really slender, but hard as a rock. Sergeant-major in the air force and retired, then went in full time as a police officer. She was in the store on the regular because she was just so tiny that her gear and to be special ordered. I was utterly shocked when we get the PO to get her a thigh holster. That department was VERY static when it came to things like that and very strict on what you could put on the belt, but her waist was so slender that it was just impossible to put all the kit on it. They let her wear that thigh holster (safariland, same rig they bought for SWAT) and it sorted out all her belt issues. Still have no idea how someone so slender could be so strong, but I would've been perfectly happy to have her respond in a bad situation, tiny or not.
BulvaiHammersson external carriers solve a lot of those problems . Here on the west coast external carriers are widely used . Only thing I really carry on my belt is my drop leg , cell holder , cuff , silent key . Everything else goes on the external . Externals really help in the heat to .
As i see that you have 3 spare magazines attached to your belt i need to tell you how my country thinks about spare magazines. I am from Germany and right now, there is a big discussion about whether or not our federal police service officers should carry a 2nd magazine. And by that i dont mean a 2nd spare noooooo, they are discussing for real if a officer should have more magazines than the one allready in his sidearm.... Ridiculous, isnt it?!
+Hans Hansen I'll say this about spare mags. A friend of mine was in a training class one day. On his way home in a marked car he ended up in the right place at the right time and caught up with a group of bank robbers who all happened to be in the same car. Long story short, he didn't have any extra ammo and ended up hiding behind his car with his 16+1 round gun at slide lock. Luckily more cops showed up. Lots of guys around here started carrying a little more ammo after that. A nearby agency also had a cop who let off over forty rounds, expending three full magazines, when he was pinned down be an offender in a traffic stop. He ended up, thankfully, being saved by other responding officers who entered the fight and brought him a long gun. Patrolmen don't regularly go around shooting hostage takers or entering active shooting environments, but when those situations do happen 99.9% of the time it is a patrolmen who settles it long before the "pros" get there. I don't know about you but if the bank I was in got robbed or my family member was held hostage I'd want the patrolmen on the street to have the tools and knowledge to settle the issue up front instead of being forced to wait hours for a specialist unit, adding time for the bad guy hurt people.
free field training you are completely right but here in Germany bureaucracy is a bit** and if politicians decide that you are not allowed to carry spares, you are stuck with this order :-( Our officers would like to carry at least 1 to 2 spare magazines, but they cant, cause they get in serious trouble if they act against orders

yeah..the problem is, here in Germany, so many people are against guns. Did you know, that here in Germany the police is killing so many people in a year like in New York City cops are killing crooks per day? The problem is, that many illegal guns are in germany, but everyone is talking about forbidding guns for legal owners who have to do safety checks, and have so many restrictions. they even wanna forbid semi-auto guns now.

It does seem to me that there are a lot of law enforcement officers that don't put any thought into their duty belts or seek out further training after the academy, such as martial arts or defensive shooting classes?
+Christopher Koontz Well, I can tell you that there are a million different ways to skin the cat out there especially when it comes to setting up gear. Some people take their work seriously and some choose not to. That's true in any profession.
As an old guy who retired in ‘97 after 30 years and am blown away by the amount of gear cops carry around daily. I know I’m dating myself but my duty belt had a revolver (later the Glock .40), 12 extra rounds in dump pouches, one set of cuffs and a baton. Early portable radios were so heavy that no one wanted to put it on the duty belt. I’m guessing lots of young cops will have back and hip problems after years of carrying all this stuff around.
Being a small guy myself I can appreciate being able to put stuff on your external carrier. However, I work in healthcare LE and due the hospital administration our regulations are much more stringent and explicit... nothing goes on the external carrier. Maybe someday they will allow us to put our radio or flashlight on the external carrier.
Ive never been a fan of chest rigs and external body armor in law enforcement but videos likes these and the added relief of stress on my hips is really making me consider it and my department just ok'd the use of navy blue vest just like yours starting in 2018

+Najib Farah unless required I would advise against it strictly from a maintenance standpoint. They look great to start but are hell to keep looking good. I started off hating basketweave, and was required to use it at my PD. I've come to love it for its ability to hide damage. Ballistic nylon is cheap and light. For your purposes, that might be the way to go.
free field training that's definitely true, and the fact that I got this belt pretty cheap attests to that fact. I have a bianchi accumold elite in that finish and its pretty but I rarely have to put the belt on.

+Paul Bardal it is my own. I prefer the 35 due to the longer sight radius, longer point shooting top surface, and better stock trigger. I prefer to keep my duty pistol as stock as possible. It is also the same overall length and weight as my g22 that I used previously with the same light mounted. I get something for nothing with the g35. Plus, who couldn't use an extra inch?
Nice video! Rigid cuffs are standard issue here in my area of the UK, they don't let Officers carry chainlink or folded handcuffs. We have the same Leatherman too, I can vouch for that being a very helpful and well made bit of kit!

I agree with your dislike of your dept's caliber choice, but I'm impressed they issue a long slide competition model. I believe the long slide 5+ inch barreled models of pistols are perfect for LE I work in PA and had to purchase my duty gun, so I bought an M&P 9 Pro Series long slide.
+Marjah Marine I'm actually not required to use 40 and my department dosen't issue guns at all. What they do issue is ammo and the time I started we were using non bonded Remington golden sabre. (Pretty state of the art at the time in their defense) I had a choice between 9, 40, or 45 in a Glock, sig, Beretta, or hk. The 147 gr 9mm didn't work all to well. 45 had good performance but the guns at the time that took 45 were either too large for my hands or 8 round capacity. So, I got a 40 that got as much velocity as possible. The 180 gr golden sabre worked reasonably well and who couldn't use an extra inch? I've been quite pleased with the gun/ammo combo and at this point there is just no good reason to change. I've got about 30 G22/35 mags, four guns that take them, and several thousand rounds on hand. The pd provides all the training ammo I need. Even though a g34 with our new Winchester ranger 9mm would probably work just as well I'm not convinced it would work better.

+Marjah Marine yeah, I've seen it, great testing for CCW pistols. He is running it all through short barrel pistols though. We are talking duty weapons. Still, non bonded 147gr 9mm tends to work like crap no matter what you put it in. I'll take any advantage I can get.
You said the 45s are to big for your hands. Have you looked at the Glock 21SF? That is what I carry working Security. It is a little better to deal with than the regular 21. But if you are happy with a 40 cal, stick with that. I carried both a Glock 23 and a 22 at various times, nothing wrong with either.
Interesting to have your beton directly behind your service weapon. I earned extra pushups for that lol. I carry mines on the left to cross draw., I also carried my Taser, flashlight and radio on the left. I carry my magazine and Handcuff pouch on the right. My glove pouch is also in the small of my back.

being up north, i like to have 2 good quality pens (fisher cartridge) that won't freeze and one throw-away pen (gel pen) on me that i'll lend out to people and sometimes don't ask for back (i.e for people that i wouldn't want to touch their hands)

I carry dump pouches, extra made and medical gear. my duty belt saved me wonders for 13 years and four months

When that light goes out, you should upgrade to the hpl model... I swear by all my years, the throw and light it puts out is phenomenal. A little long, but it's worth it.

Check out Tactical Tailor they make a tourniquet pouch. It’s cloth but you can attach it to your duty belt or MOLLE gear. It is less than $20 but totally worth it.
+Adam Surface all the pouches I use have to be basketweave per policy and I'm not going to spend money on something that I currently accomplish better for free.

I have an idea for a video series you might find interesting: tell stories of scary calls you've been on share how you made it through the ordeal what you would have done differently if given the chance to and advice for fellow LEOS if they find themselves in a similar situation, it would give good advice to less experienced guys, allow the older guys a good word of advice and give citizens a whole new appreciation for what law enforcement deals with.

My first FTO always suggested you keep cash folded behind your badge instead of a quarter. Back i the day it was a $20; today I carry a $100, for those SHTF situations. Ever documented that anyone needed it? Probably not, but not a bad idea.

Hi, european LEO here. Nice video really. Here things are quite different i think... I won't even carry a back up gun while on duty (and i do have a G26 to carry off duty or while on plain clothing), only a Beretta 92fs with an extra mag. Might be we do never work alone like i sometimes see american cops doing (crazy stuff!) but however... No tasers here also, so the rest of my belt is for: radio, batton, gloves, folding knife, cuffs and led flashlight. In my bag: extra cuffs, full waterproof clothing, high visibility jacket, writing stuff... In car: big flashlights, rubber battons, kevlar heavy vests, 5.56 assault rifle (1 or 2...) , traffic signals, defensive sprays...
+Cayo Julio actually it is the norm in the vast overwhelming majority of places in the US for cops to work solo patrol. The major exceptions are with very large agencies and many of them also don't field tasers. It is always nice to hear from cops overseas. Stay safe over there....wherever there happens to be ;-)

Let me ad just for the record that here in the EU/UE many national level police corps are officialy military at the same time; and that does not mean a loss of good relations or manners with the citizens. In fact some of the most liked (by the citizens) police corps in Europe are military. And I know that because i am in one of those and am military and LEO at the same time. No OC spray (pepper spray)? I don't like the handcuff pouches you need to open the pouch.. I just use the ones that show the cuffs and all you do is pull on them in order to take them out. Get some Fenix flashlights, they have about 1000 lumens and are extremely good. Easy to use them and have a gun out, in order to clear a house, etc.
I just realized I forgot to write up how my belt is set up. As I've told you in previous comments I work as a public safety officer at a large trauma center in the Chicagoland area. With that comes strict guidelines. Three things to note... 1. We don't carry OC anymore. It's a contamination issue and we have found that threatening to use a taser is the same escalation of force that OC would fall under and way more effective. 2. We don't carry anything on our outer carriers. It doesn't fit the environment. 3. We are only approved to carry one set of cuffs and baton is optional, although the we still train on baton during the initial PPCT and yearly PPCT refresher every year. The administration hates cuffs and most of our hands on are with patient where physical control and then restraints is used anyways. All this aside we can set up our belts however we want and can add small things like key ring holders or use a different nylon belt or pouches. We are also authorized to carry any 9mm classified as a duty weapon (Glock, Springfield, Smith & Wesson, Beretta, etc ) as long as we qualify with it initially and then twice per year thereafter. We also have to use a Level 3 retention holster. We do not carry a back up. My belt is as follows. Near the 1 o'clock is my double mag pouch sideways pointing toward my non dominant hand (left). At the 3ish o'clock is my duty weapon in a Safariland 7TS ALS/SLS Level 3 holster.. Glock 19. At the 4 o'clock is my 21" ASP baton with Hindi cap. I have nothing in between 5 and 7 o'clock except for two keepers and thats because I don't like things on my back and I prefer to keep weight off my back. At the 7 o'clock position is my flashlight. At the 8 o'clock position is my radio. At the 10 to 11 o'clock is my taser on a cross draw. Finally, up against the buckle as close to 12 o'clock as possible are my cuffs in an enclosed snap case (enclosed case is an administrative requirement). I don't carry a medical glove pouch, we use them way too often to keep putting them in and taking them out. I keep them in high supply in my left cargo pocket.
Sounds like a well thought out setup. It is worth pointing out though to anyone else who is reading this that while the threatened use of OC and Taser (as the gentleman above eludes to) are both the same level of force, the actual deployment of those less than lethal weapons are considered by the courts to be two quite different levels of force. OC (or pepper spray) has been used against passive resisters for decades. In my opinion that is really where OC shines. With a lower overall risk of injury to the offender than forcing them into cuffs, OC is a great option for the “I ain’t doing that, you gonna have to make me” crowd. It is a pain compliance tool that the courts roundly back as pretty much the minimum level of physical violence that one person can do to another. The Taser on the other hand, while having a low statistical risk of injury to the offender, is considered by the courts to be a higher use of force than OC and should not generally be used against passive resisters. Courts have recently considered Taser deployment a “significant use of force”. It is still yet to be seen what the long term implications on local law and policies is going to be as the civil suits in some cases are still on the fence. For more info check out Mattos v. Agarano.
Thanks for kinds words and great points made. In the security and LE field OC has its place, but I have found (as have most hospital security administrators) that in the healthcare environment empty hand pressure point control tactics are much more effective than OC. That being said, if the empty hand techniques fail we then escalate to "drive stun" with a taser. However, it's rare as the mere sight of a taser and a firearm or the verbal threat of a taser is usually psychologically effective enough in my environment. I will say this though, for now most courts recognize a taser and OC as nearly equal in regards to "drive stun" "Intermediate weapons" as outlined in the use force continuum. However, with the death rates increasing as a result of full taser probe deployment may very well may be reclassified as a deadly force use weapon, which I feel is a dangerous move since that will then open up the debate for use of a taser when facing a subject with a knife instead of a firearm.
+SirWhiteCrayon So far, only improper use of the taser has led to it being seen as "deadly force" by courts in very narrow circumstances. Such as tasing a man at the edge of a roof or any other environments where a reasonable person would believe that there is a high probability of a sudden fall (as is so often the result of probed taser deployment) resulting in death. (Swimming pools being another great example) Use of force has to be judged not just on the weapon, how it is deployed, and the outcome but on the totality of the circumstances involved from the perspective of a reasonable officer knowing only what that officer knew at the time of the force application. What would be proper and reasonable in a hallway of a hospital would not be so on the edge of a busy interstate highway and vice versa. Also, we can't know if a guy took three times the "usual" dose of cocaine and so is at a higher risk for heart attack. We can though see if the guy is 93 yoa. Reasonableness is the key. If you use only what force is necessary that will keep you out of most legal trouble. For once "you doin' to much" is a legitimate critique. The great thing, as you so well put, is that at least 90% of the time, in my experience, just the threat of the taser is enough to gain compliance. People who have never been hit with it have no fear of pepper spray and will mock you for threatening it. Anyone who has been tased, knows somone who was tased, or has even seen a video of a person being tased knows they want no part of it. Anyone who would advocate use of a taser against a knife if no lethal cover is also used is a fool or thinks knives work like on TV. Every year I see at least two or three people killed with knives. It is a terrible bloody, painful, violent way to go. The size of the knife dosent even matter. I saw a guy who got his face peeled off by an ex girlfriend with a eyebrow trimmer once. That is a knife less than half an inch long. Most people who don't work in an ER or the street have no idea the damage a knife can do. All you have to do is drop them off at a metro trauma center on a random fri-sat night to set them straight on using just a taser vs a knife. Heck you can Google "cop cut with knife" and see why.
Well put sir! I echo everything you wrote. I mentioned drive stun before and I said we use this method for compliance. It's almost always to the arm, such as an individual who won't let go of a wrist, hair or medical equipment and when open hand techniques have failed. That being said being non-sworn we walk a very fine line.

Try the streamlight stylus pro. Mine was 20.00 it's an led pen light that runs off two triple a batteries. It is 65 lumens runtime 7 hours beam 52 meters. It is durable I have edc it for 2 years now I've dropped it many times. I have ran over it and it has been abused. To find it just go onto Amazon or to academy and search for stream light stylus pro.

Except the whistle, that one gets me every time I see it lol. We still can if we want but, it just isn't practical for the policing we do anymore. +Captainblueblob That all depends on your motivation. I can't speak for every cop in every place, but I can speak for me and where I'm at. If your motivation is money, glory, or fame it is definitely not worth it. If, on the other hand, you are motivated by having done a job well despite nobody watching, civic duty, excitement, and living the fullest life you possibly can. Then it is worth every step and hardship along the way. I'll never see the world the same way I did before I was a cop and I never want to.
free field training i have always have a huge interest in law enforcement. I live in florida and im currently a sophomore. I have watching alot of youtube videos about it. How to join, how to get into the acadamy, things like that. Im hust wondering if its worth it to join after highschool. You have to be 21 to join but i think its 18 to go to the acadamy. My dad says not to get into law enforcement because the pay is not good. I think he just doesn't want me to get killed. But i have strong fealings to becoming one and to serve. My main dream is to join the fbi. Any thoughts?
+Captainblueblob Well, I can tell you that the FBI is not ANYTHING like on TV. Like, at all. Not even close. You should look into what an FBI agent does on a daily basis before you even try to point yourself in that direction. I think you will be far less enamored with the idea when you find out that you will be doing much more paper pushing than anything else there. Not to say that it is a bad job or that the FBI is not a top notch organization full of talented people but, frankly, they investigate crimes. Lots of desk sitting, taking notes, and statements. Nearly zero excitement. (Comparatively) You will never get rich as a cop. Dosen't matter where you work or how hard. Rich isn't even an option. The highest paid cops out there make 200k+/year, are the administrators at major agencies, Have 20+ years of service, and are less than .001% of the workforce. They still rarely get into the top tax bracket. Most places you won't get a police job at 18-21. Most good places that pay well won't even touch you until 23. If you want to be a cop at 18-19 your only good option that won't land you in serious trouble working for a podunk place with no standards is being an MP. Plus side of that is you come out with age and qualifying for lots of LEO jobs that take active duty military in leiu of college. The risk is all relative to where you work. If you go into state or federal conservation police or work on the south side of Chicago or south central LA the risk is pretty high. If you work at a small town PD or the nice area of a big city the job is statistically pretty safe.
that was another option i did not mention, i was also very interested into becoming a mp aswell. i had a little interest in the military, military plus law enforcement= Military police. i guess i still have plenty of time to decide what i want to do. when did you become a officer? at what age

+Dominick Brown We don't use the x2 , though I have played with one. I wish we had the second shot ability and I love the drive stun without having to pull the cartridges off. The x 26 and x26p differ in more subtle ways. The x26p is more solid state and so a bit more reliable after non use for a while. The x26 has a more positive safety. They both have essentially the same manual of arms though.

oh i forgot please please do a video on the pens. i am a by law officer up in canada. sometimes its -30 here in the winter. most pens will not work. been trying to find a good pen that writes 24 7 as i give out 30 or more tickets a day.

+Durake I am indeed. Not much for the national council politics, but the traditional scouting program tought me more than I ever learned in school. I owe a great deal to my voulenteer leaders in scouting. So much so that I still voulenteer with the program occasionally when they need my skill set for a large event. I'll tell you this about making eagle. I have gotten more jobs and job interviews for gigs than I can count because I put that on my application/resume. One company hired me on the spot. I litteraly walked in, filled out an app got an interview immediately. The interview was one question "Are you really an Eagle Scout" I showed them my card and walked out with a job. Happened to me twice with two different companies in two different industries. Don't put it off. Get those blue cards and the project done. It pays.
Dig the knife, I like CRKT. Yours is one of their high carbon stainless steels. Something like 8Cr13MoV or 8Cr14MoV (easy to get that confused). I liked this video a lot, never framed my EDC from the mind of an officer. Was a knife dealer at one point though, and was curious what you thought about the KaBar LDK. They made it with the Tactical Defense Institute's suggestions in mind, the angle specifically at the angle of a Glock's grip or something like that...always heard some jurisdictions required certain characteristics in a defensive knife. No idea really though, that's usually just hype to help sell stuff in that industry. Just wondering...also, you might like the CRKT M21-SFG. Deploys on the draw out of the pocket, super quick folder. Kinda vicious for a civilian but could be a lifesaver for police. Thanks.
+joseph craver I like kabar, just not the trendy cool stuff as much. I used to carry a push knife back in the day a new boss put the kabosh on that. So, I got a .357 snub for the purpose and ditched the dedicated fighting knife. My buddy had a kabar tdi that he got away with carrying for a few years, but they got to him too "Not approved equipment". For me, the kabar worth having is "the kabar" as in the full sized fighting knife. I love that thing for heavy outdoor use. I've got a stacked leather one which is both beautiful and useful. I've got plenty of knives. (Some just for fun) I've found though that I use them for everyday tasks a whole lot and "tacticalness" very little. For duty I prefer a large stout folder that can do both things reasonably well. Most of the time the knives I use on duty are gifts from family or vendors I strike up conversations with. The CRKT was a gift from my wife. The leatherman wave was one of the few I bought to use at work. Expensive but well worth the money with how feature rich and compact it is. Back in my scouting days I was big into knives, now there are just too many varieties to keep track of.
+joseph craver I've never heard of grip angle on a knife being studied or particular towns having requirements for cops knives. Every place I've been the purpose built fixed blade defensive knives were something guys just carried and never told anyone about. I don't know of anywhere that issues or specs them out in policy. Not that that couldn't be a thing somewhere, I've just never seen it.
+Justin Peppers I believe it is a 21". I carry one chain and one hinge because, while there is overlap, they are for two different purposes. Hinge cuffs are as a reserve, for fighting, and high risk transports. Chain cuffs are for more "routine" calls. They are more comfortable for the detainee which leads to more good will when we need more voulentarily compliance in booking. Chain cuffs are also easier on the elderly, which can save significant time on hospital transports.

+Gubby-SL Funny thing about that....it isn't very funny. That sucks. I have a friend who was carrying a 16rnd .40 on his way to k9 training and got in the middle of a gunfight on the highway. His gun went dry and he ended up taking a round in his leg. Could have been much worse. After that I stopped carrying subcompact guns to training and court.
I understand the social issues with having police armed up in Europe but limiting a man to one pistol and one mag and then asking him to go into situations that will put him at risk of getting into a shootout seems really irresponsible. Three mag carriers are becoming increasingly popular in the US. If the look of the magazines bothers people I don't see why they wouldn't let you just keep a spare in a pocket. P99 mags aren't that big.

Yeah its been amazing. It's a great school, and the kids are greater. Obviously a few bad apples, but it happens. You really see a whole new side to law enforcement, and can make a difference with the kids early on.
Talking about lack of belt real estate, I did gear sales for a while and one of my favorite customers was this tiny little pixie of a woman. She was mid-40's or so, really slender, but hard as a rock. Sergeant-major in the air force and retired, then went in full time as a police officer. She was in the store on the regular because she was just so tiny that her gear and to be special ordered. I was utterly shocked when we get the PO to get her a thigh holster. That department was VERY static when it came to things like that and very strict on what you could put on the belt, but her waist was so slender that it was just impossible to put all the kit on it. They let her wear that thigh holster (safariland, same rig they bought for SWAT) and it sorted out all her belt issues.
Still have no idea how someone so slender could be so strong, but I would've been perfectly happy to have her respond in a bad situation, tiny or not.
I met a chicago cop once who was so small she had to carry her radio on a strap like a hose dragger. lol
BulvaiHammersson as far as I know, there is no such thing as a seargent major in the Air Force.
BulvaiHammersson external carriers solve a lot of those problems . Here on the west coast external carriers are widely used . Only thing I really carry on my belt is my drop leg , cell holder , cuff , silent key . Everything else goes on the external . Externals really help in the heat to .

As i see that you have 3 spare magazines attached to your belt i need to tell you how my country thinks about spare magazines. I am from Germany and right now, there is a big discussion about whether or not our federal police service officers should carry a 2nd magazine. And by that i dont mean a 2nd spare noooooo, they are discussing for real if a officer should have more magazines than the one allready in his sidearm.... Ridiculous, isnt it?!
+Hans Hansen I'll say this about spare mags. A friend of mine was in a training class one day. On his way home in a marked car he ended up in the right place at the right time and caught up with a group of bank robbers who all happened to be in the same car.
Long story short, he didn't have any extra ammo and ended up hiding behind his car with his 16+1 round gun at slide lock. Luckily more cops showed up.
Lots of guys around here started carrying a little more ammo after that.
A nearby agency also had a cop who let off over forty rounds, expending three full magazines, when he was pinned down be an offender in a traffic stop. He ended up, thankfully, being saved by other responding officers who entered the fight and brought him a long gun.
Patrolmen don't regularly go around shooting hostage takers or entering active shooting environments, but when those situations do happen 99.9% of the time it is a patrolmen who settles it long before the "pros" get there.
I don't know about you but if the bank I was in got robbed or my family member was held hostage I'd want the patrolmen on the street to have the tools and knowledge to settle the issue up front instead of being forced to wait hours for a specialist unit, adding time for the bad guy hurt people.
free field training you are completely right but here in Germany bureaucracy is a bit** and if politicians decide that you are not allowed to carry spares, you are stuck with this order :-(

Some people take their work seriously and some choose not to. That's true in any profession.
I recommend the SureFire G2X LE (Law Enforcement Edition) It has 400 lumens, very compac and useful.

As an old guy who retired in ‘97 after 30 years and am blown away by the amount of gear cops carry around daily. I know I’m dating myself but my duty belt had a revolver (later the Glock .40), 12 extra rounds in dump pouches, one set of cuffs and a baton. Early portable radios were so heavy that no one wanted to put it on the duty belt. I’m guessing lots of young cops will have back and hip problems after years of carrying all this stuff around.
Want to hear something extra fun? Other than the third spare magazine all of this stuff is currently required to be carried.
Being a small guy myself I can appreciate being able to put stuff on your external carrier. However, I work in healthcare LE and due the hospital administration our regulations are much more stringent and explicit... nothing goes on the external carrier. Maybe someday they will allow us to put our radio or flashlight on the external carrier.

+Matthew Friske I really highly suggest giving it a try. If you do, make sure you get a vest with a mash liner. It helps immensely in the summer.

I started off hating basketweave, and was required to use it at my PD. I've come to love it for its ability to hide damage.
Ballistic nylon is cheap and light. For your purposes, that might be the way to go.
free field training that's definitely true, and the fact that I got this belt pretty cheap attests to that fact. I have a bianchi accumold elite in that finish and its pretty but I rarely have to put the belt on.

+Paul Bardal it is my own. I prefer the 35 due to the longer sight radius, longer point shooting top surface, and better stock trigger. I prefer to keep my duty pistol as stock as possible. It is also the same overall length and weight as my g22 that I used previously with the same light mounted. I get something for nothing with the g35. Plus, who couldn't use an extra inch?
Nice video! Rigid cuffs are standard issue here in my area of the UK, they don't let Officers carry chainlink or folded handcuffs. We have the same Leatherman too, I can vouch for that being a very helpful and well made bit of kit!

I agree with your dislike of your dept's caliber choice, but I'm impressed they issue a long slide competition model. I believe the long slide 5+ inch barreled models of pistols are perfect for LE
I work in PA and had to purchase my duty gun, so I bought an M&P 9 Pro Series long slide.
+Marjah Marine I'm actually not required to use 40 and my department dosen't issue guns at all. What they do issue is ammo and the time I started we were using non bonded Remington golden sabre. (Pretty state of the art at the time in their defense) I had a choice between 9, 40, or 45 in a Glock, sig, Beretta, or hk. The 147 gr 9mm didn't work all to well. 45 had good performance but the guns at the time that took 45 were either too large for my hands or 8 round capacity. So, I got a 40 that got as much velocity as possible. The 180 gr golden sabre worked reasonably well and who couldn't use an extra inch? I've been quite pleased with the gun/ammo combo and at this point there is just no good reason to change. I've got about 30 G22/35 mags, four guns that take them, and several thousand rounds on hand. The pd provides all the training ammo I need. Even though a g34 with our new Winchester ranger 9mm would probably work just as well I'm not convinced it would work better.
Yeah I completely heard what you had said wrong now that I replay the video. I guess I was hearing what I wanted to hear, haha. The very best test ever done on pistol ammo was the one Lucky Gunner did. It's posted on their website. See how your ammo stacks up...
+Marjah Marine yeah, I've seen it, great testing for CCW pistols. He is running it all through short barrel pistols though. We are talking duty weapons. Still, non bonded 147gr 9mm tends to work like crap no matter what you put it in. I'll take any advantage I can get.
You said the 45s are to big for your hands. Have you looked at the Glock 21SF? That is what I carry working Security. It is a little better to deal with than the regular 21. But if you are happy with a 40 cal, stick with that. I carried both a Glock 23 and a 22 at various times, nothing wrong with either.
True that they do flex the hiatts rigid original are best for that purpose. Asp rigid foldable cuffs are best for in custody/court transport.
Interesting to have your beton directly behind your service weapon. I earned extra pushups for that lol. I carry mines on the left to cross draw., I also carried my Taser, flashlight and radio on the left. I carry my magazine and Handcuff pouch on the right. My glove pouch is also in the small of my back.

being up north, i like to have 2 good quality pens (fisher cartridge) that won't freeze and one throw-away pen (gel pen) on me that i'll lend out to people and sometimes don't ask for back (i.e for people that i wouldn't want to touch their hands)

+james channer I thought about getting a hood taser holster from safariland, but I really want to stay away from using the same locking mechanism for my taser and my pistol. The less confusion between the two the better.
When that light goes out, you should upgrade to the hpl model... I swear by all my years, the throw and light it puts out is phenomenal. A little long, but it's worth it.

Check out Tactical Tailor they make a tourniquet pouch. It’s cloth but you can attach it to your duty belt or MOLLE gear. It is less than $20 but totally worth it.
+Adam Surface all the pouches I use have to be basketweave per policy and I'm not going to spend money on something that I currently accomplish better for free.
Awesome video! I have an idea for a video series you might find interesting: tell stories of scary calls you've been on share how you made it through the ordeal what you would have done differently if given the chance to and advice for fellow LEOS if they find themselves in a similar situation, it would give good advice to less experienced guys, allow the older guys a good word of advice and give citizens a whole new appreciation for what law enforcement deals with.

Here things are quite different i think... I won't even carry a back up gun while on duty (and i do have a G26 to carry off duty or while on plain clothing), only a Beretta 92fs with an extra mag. Might be we do never work alone like i sometimes see american cops doing (crazy stuff!) but however...
No tasers here also, so the rest of my belt is for: radio, batton, gloves, folding knife, cuffs and led flashlight. In my bag: extra cuffs, full waterproof clothing, high visibility jacket, writing stuff... In car: big flashlights, rubber battons, kevlar heavy vests, 5.56 assault rifle (1 or 2...) , traffic signals, defensive sprays...
+Cayo Julio actually it is the norm in the vast overwhelming majority of places in the US for cops to work solo patrol. The major exceptions are with very large agencies and many of them also don't field tasers. It is always nice to hear from cops overseas.

Let me ad just for the record that here in the EU/UE many national level police corps are officialy military at the same time; and that does not mean a loss of good relations or manners with the citizens. In fact some of the most liked (by the citizens) police corps in Europe are military.

friartuck, Seriously?? I served for 34 years as a police officer and I never needed to have a reminder, not even once, of what I took an oath to uphold. I taught Criminal Procedures as well and had constant on the job training on citizen's civil rights. But damn, I sure ran into a lot of "street lawyers" who thought they were the shit, (kind of remind me a lot of you, BTW) but in reality didn't know a damn thing. Just sayin'

Nothing wrong with 40 S&W yes they have improved 9mm bullet design and all that means is they have improved the .40s bullet design as well.
No OC spray (pepper spray)? I don't like the handcuff pouches you need to open the pouch.. I just use the ones that show the cuffs and all you do is pull on them in order to take them out. Get some Fenix flashlights, they have about 1000 lumens and are extremely good. Easy to use them and have a gun out, in order to clear a house, etc.

I just realized I forgot to write up how my belt is set up. As I've told you in previous comments I work as a public safety officer at a large trauma center in the Chicagoland area. With that comes strict guidelines. Three things to note... 1. We don't carry OC anymore. It's a contamination issue and we have found that threatening to use a taser is the same escalation of force that OC would fall under and way more effective. 2. We don't carry anything on our outer carriers. It doesn't fit the environment. 3. We are only approved to carry one set of cuffs and baton is optional, although the we still train on baton during the initial PPCT and yearly PPCT refresher every year. The administration hates cuffs and most of our hands on are with patient where physical control and then restraints is used anyways.
All this aside we can set up our belts however we want and can add small things like key ring holders or use a different nylon belt or pouches. We are also authorized to carry any 9mm classified as a duty weapon (Glock, Springfield, Smith & Wesson, Beretta, etc ) as long as we qualify with it initially and then twice per year thereafter. We also have to use a Level 3 retention holster. We do not carry a back up.
My belt is as follows. Near the 1 o'clock is my double mag pouch sideways pointing toward my non dominant hand (left). At the 3ish o'clock is my duty weapon in a Safariland 7TS ALS/SLS Level 3 holster.. Glock 19. At the 4 o'clock is my 21" ASP baton with Hindi cap. I have nothing in between 5 and 7 o'clock except for two keepers and thats because I don't like things on my back and I prefer to keep weight off my back. At the 7 o'clock position is my flashlight. At the 8 o'clock position is my radio. At the 10 to 11 o'clock is my taser on a cross draw. Finally, up against the buckle as close to 12 o'clock as possible are my cuffs in an enclosed snap case (enclosed case is an administrative requirement). I don't carry a medical glove pouch, we use them way too often to keep putting them in and taking them out. I keep them in high supply in my left cargo pocket.
Sounds like a well thought out setup.
It is worth pointing out though to anyone else who is reading this that while the threatened use of OC and Taser (as the gentleman above eludes to) are both the same level of force, the actual deployment of those less than lethal weapons are considered by the courts to be two quite different levels of force.
OC (or pepper spray) has been used against passive resisters for decades. In my opinion that is really where OC shines. With a lower overall risk of injury to the offender than forcing them into cuffs, OC is a great option for the “I ain’t doing that, you gonna have to make me” crowd. It is a pain compliance tool that the courts roundly back as pretty much the minimum level of physical violence that one person can do to another.
The Taser on the other hand, while having a low statistical risk of injury to the offender, is considered by the courts to be a higher use of force than OC and should not generally be used against passive resisters. Courts have recently considered Taser deployment a “significant use of force”. It is still yet to be seen what the long term implications on local law and policies is going to be as the civil suits in some cases are still on the fence.

In the security and LE field OC has its place, but I have found (as have most hospital security administrators) that in the healthcare environment empty hand pressure point control tactics are much more effective than OC. That being said, if the empty hand techniques fail we then escalate to "drive stun" with a taser. However, it's rare as the mere sight of a taser and a firearm or the verbal threat of a taser is usually psychologically effective enough in my environment. I will say this though, for now most courts recognize a taser and OC as nearly equal in regards to "drive stun" "Intermediate weapons" as outlined in the use force continuum. However, with the death rates increasing as a result of full taser probe deployment may very well may be reclassified as a deadly force use weapon, which I feel is a dangerous move since that will then open up the debate for use of a taser when facing a subject with a knife instead of a firearm.
+SirWhiteCrayon So far, only improper use of the taser has led to it being seen as "deadly force" by courts in very narrow circumstances. Such as tasing a man at the edge of a roof or any other environments where a reasonable person would believe that there is a high probability of a sudden fall (as is so often the result of probed taser deployment) resulting in death. (Swimming pools being another great example)
Use of force has to be judged not just on the weapon, how it is deployed, and the outcome but on the totality of the circumstances involved from the perspective of a reasonable officer knowing only what that officer knew at the time of the force application. What would be proper and reasonable in a hallway of a hospital would not be so on the edge of a busy interstate highway and vice versa. Also, we can't know if a guy took three times the "usual" dose of cocaine and so is at a higher risk for heart attack. We can though see if the guy is 93 yoa. Reasonableness is the key. If you use only what force is necessary that will keep you out of most legal trouble. For once "you doin' to much" is a legitimate critique.
The great thing, as you so well put, is that at least 90% of the time, in my experience, just the threat of the taser is enough to gain compliance. People who have never been hit with it have no fear of pepper spray and will mock you for threatening it. Anyone who has been tased, knows somone who was tased, or has even seen a video of a person being tased knows they want no part of it.
Anyone who would advocate use of a taser against a knife if no lethal cover is also used is a fool or thinks knives work like on TV. Every year I see at least two or three people killed with knives. It is a terrible bloody, painful, violent way to go.
The size of the knife dosent even matter. I saw a guy who got his face peeled off by an ex girlfriend with a eyebrow trimmer once. That is a knife less than half an inch long.
Most people who don't work in an ER or the street have no idea the damage a knife can do. All you have to do is drop them off at a metro trauma center on a random fri-sat night to set them straight on using just a taser vs a knife. Heck you can Google "cop cut with knife" and see why.
Well put sir! I echo everything you wrote. I mentioned drive stun before and I said we use this method for compliance. It's almost always to the arm, such as an individual who won't let go of a wrist, hair or medical equipment and when open hand techniques have failed. That being said being non-sworn we walk a very fine line.

Try the streamlight stylus pro. Mine was 20.00 it's an led pen light that runs off two triple a batteries. It is 65 lumens runtime 7 hours beam 52 meters. It is durable I have edc it for 2 years now I've dropped it many times. I have ran over it and it has been abused. To find it just go onto Amazon or to academy and search for stream light stylus pro.

Except the whistle, that one gets me every time I see it lol. We still can if we want but, it just isn't practical for the policing we do anymore. It is a heavy traffic day if I get one stop in and a light domestic day if i only go to four of em. A very light day if there isn't a robbery or burglary in progress before lunch. The utilitarian uniform just makes more sence for us. I can't wait to retire and get a nice spit and polish job at a college, railroad, or zoo.

+Captainblueblob That all depends on your motivation. I can't speak for every cop in every place, but I can speak for me and where I'm at.
If your motivation is money, glory, or fame it is definitely not worth it. If, on the other hand, you are motivated by having done a job well despite nobody watching, civic duty, excitement, and living the fullest life you possibly can. Then it is worth every step and hardship along the way.

How to join, how to get into the acadamy, things like that. Im hust wondering if its worth it to join after highschool. You have to be 21 to join but i think its 18 to go to the acadamy. My dad says not to get into law enforcement because the pay is not good. I think he just doesn't want me to get killed. But i have strong fealings to becoming one and to serve. My main dream is to join the fbi. Any thoughts?
+Captainblueblob Well, I can tell you that the FBI is not ANYTHING like on TV. Like, at all. Not even close. You should look into what an FBI agent does on a daily basis before you even try to point yourself in that direction. I think you will be far less enamored with the idea when you find out that you will be doing much more paper pushing than anything else there. Not to say that it is a bad job or that the FBI is not a top notch organization full of talented people but, frankly, they investigate crimes. Lots of desk sitting, taking notes, and statements. Nearly zero excitement. (Comparatively)
You will never get rich as a cop. Dosen't matter where you work or how hard. Rich isn't even an option. The highest paid cops out there make 200k+/year, are the administrators at major agencies, Have 20+ years of service, and are less than .001% of the workforce. They still rarely get into the top tax bracket.
Most places you won't get a police job at 18-21. Most good places that pay well won't even touch you until 23. If you want to be a cop at 18-19 your only good option that won't land you in serious trouble working for a podunk place with no standards is being an MP. Plus side of that is you come out with age and qualifying for lots of LEO jobs that take active duty military in leiu of college.
The risk is all relative to where you work. If you go into state or federal conservation police or work on the south side of Chicago or south central LA the risk is pretty high. If you work at a small town PD or the nice area of a big city the job is statistically pretty safe.
that was another option i did not mention, i was also very interested into becoming a mp aswell. i had a little interest in the military, military plus law enforcement= Military police. i guess i still have plenty of time to decide what i want to do. when did you become a officer? at what age

+Dominick Brown We don't use the x2 , though I have played with one. I wish we had the second shot ability and I love the drive stun without having to pull the cartridges off.
The x 26 and x26p differ in more subtle ways. The x26p is more solid state and so a bit more reliable after non use for a while. The x26 has a more positive safety. They both have essentially the same manual of arms though.

oh i forgot please please do a video on the pens. i am a by law officer up in canada. sometimes its -30 here in the winter. most pens will not work. been trying to find a good pen that writes 24 7 as i give out 30 or more tickets a day.

+Durake I am indeed. Not much for the national council politics, but the traditional scouting program tought me more than I ever learned in school. I owe a great deal to my voulenteer leaders in scouting. So much so that I still voulenteer with the program occasionally when they need my skill set for a large event.
I'll tell you this about making eagle. I have gotten more jobs and job interviews for gigs than I can count because I put that on my application/resume. One company hired me on the spot. I litteraly walked in, filled out an app got an interview immediately. The interview was one question "Are you really an Eagle Scout" I showed them my card and walked out with a job. Happened to me twice with two different companies in two different industries. Don't put it off. Get those blue cards and the project done. It pays.

Dig the knife, I like CRKT. Yours is one of their high carbon stainless steels. Something like 8Cr13MoV or 8Cr14MoV (easy to get that confused). I liked this video a lot, never framed my EDC from the mind of an officer. Was a knife dealer at one point though, and was curious what you thought about the KaBar LDK. They made it with the Tactical Defense Institute's suggestions in mind, the angle specifically at the angle of a Glock's grip or something like that...always heard some jurisdictions required certain characteristics in a defensive knife. No idea really though, that's usually just hype to help sell stuff in that industry. Just wondering...also, you might like the CRKT M21-SFG. Deploys on the draw out of the pocket, super quick folder. Kinda vicious for a civilian but could be a lifesaver for police. Thanks.
+joseph craver I like kabar, just not the trendy cool stuff as much. I used to carry a push knife back in the day a new boss put the kabosh on that. So, I got a .357 snub for the purpose and ditched the dedicated fighting knife. My buddy had a kabar tdi that he got away with carrying for a few years, but they got to him too "Not approved equipment". For me, the kabar worth having is "the kabar" as in the full sized fighting knife. I love that thing for heavy outdoor use. I've got a stacked leather one which is both beautiful and useful.
I've got plenty of knives. (Some just for fun) I've found though that I use them for everyday tasks a whole lot and "tacticalness" very little. For duty I prefer a large stout folder that can do both things reasonably well. Most of the time the knives I use on duty are gifts from family or vendors I strike up conversations with. The CRKT was a gift from my wife. The leatherman wave was one of the few I bought to use at work. Expensive but well worth the money with how feature rich and compact it is.
Back in my scouting days I was big into knives, now there are just too many varieties to keep track of.
+joseph craver I've never heard of grip angle on a knife being studied or particular towns having requirements for cops knives. Every place I've been the purpose built fixed blade defensive knives were something guys just carried and never told anyone about. I don't know of anywhere that issues or specs them out in policy. Not that that couldn't be a thing somewhere, I've just never seen it.

+Justin Peppers I believe it is a 21". I carry one chain and one hinge because, while there is overlap, they are for two different purposes. Hinge cuffs are as a reserve, for fighting, and high risk transports. Chain cuffs are for more "routine" calls. They are more comfortable for the detainee which leads to more good will when we need more voulentarily compliance in booking. Chain cuffs are also easier on the elderly, which can save significant time on hospital transports.
