actually if you look at Celldweller's band page it literatly says "Klayton is Celldweller" he plays all the instruments and everything himself, the four person band was just his live show only band, now the only other person who helps him play live is Blue Stahli and he just plays a synth bass and backing guitars. Klayton IS the only member of Celldweller and will ALWAYS be the ONLY member

Maybe they just thought this was something else and didn't like it? WHO KNOWS. Honestly, I know bands that I like more than I like Celldweller, bands that are "More awesome" and I don't go around disliking songs because of that. So yeah, nicely said jerkass.
You should look in to Ayreon if you like epic stories. It's about a blind minstrel receiving visions from the future and singing of them to warn man kind about it's destruction. It's a progressive rock/electro with a lot of classical instruments and such. Very Sci-fi story as well that spans through several albums. Not the same one, but connected to the events in previous in some ways.

a true fan supports whatever the artist does, cause it's their music, we just get the privilege of listening to it. i hope klayton continues to experiment with metal-dubstep because he'll undoubtedly get better at it.
I haven't been a Celldweller fan long. I stumbled on Switchback while watching a gameplay video of one of the Dead Rising games. Bought the namesake album and loved it and then when I heard about Wish Upon a Blackstar I didn't even stop and think it through before buying the deluxe edition. Now I have to ask, after hearing 'It Makes No Difference Who We Are' and 'Blackstar' back to back... did anyone else think of Dragonball GT? Awesome Album by the way!!

C'mon, this song is so beautiful... I can't understand the dislikes. But, well, everyone's free in terms of likings/dislikings...
And why not to make a wish upon a blackhole? They're very special objects, in terms of what they can do. They even distort space-time with their presence, so why not to consider them wish-granters?
You should really listen to the whole album, because the songs seem to be correlated. My perception of it (if taken literally) is someone who wishes for love from a deceitful deity. He gets so caught up in it that he doesn't heed the warnings he's given, and when it's done he breaks down in realisation of how he hurt himself and his fated love.
First of all, there's no "they", Celldweller is music project not band, just one guy (Klay). And why do you event need to know the genre, why do we have boundaries, we should create music not genre. That's exactly what he did, escaped that mold and started creating music.Just embrace the sound bro :)

If you like this kind of storyplay. Look in to Ayreon. It's very deep and awesome progressive rock album with modern and classical instruments. Look up "Castle Hall" Or something alike. It has an epic story behind albums.

Klayton always says that we can interpret his music however we want to. You don't have the right to tell someone they're not a real fan. You may interpret it as aliens, others may interpret it as religion.

I guess it is due to the hybrid nature of Celldweller. Not everyone can understand Klayton's genius. So the best solution to the many dislikes is simply to ignore them in my opinion.
Though that's a literal interpretation; I now think the album is metaphorical, more of an internal conflict of his own emotions and personal life stories that he puts into indirect poetry.

After listening to all of the songs on the album, I've just got the feeling that the 'wish upon a blackstar', is actually referring to death. I've got that idea namely in the Blackstar song.

Lol I think that he meant that "The Lucky One" is similar to this song because this song, in essence, is saying "Be careful what you wish for." This song is near the end of the album, which means that he's regretting his wish. He's basically saying doesn't matter who we are, all our lives can get fucked up if we are not careful with our actions :P
