My tips to add would be.
Two people sleeping together are warmer than one. So find someone to snuggle up to! My wife made this comment! I'm the heat source and she is very much the heat drain!
Keep your condensation under control as a drying out moisture uses energy that would be better used to keep you warm. Invest in a window vac.
Make sure you are insulated below as well as on top. A memory foam mattress topper is a great insulator to sleep on.
Hand warmers, either reusable or disposable, are a great way to dry out footwear and ski boot liners etc.

I have wind deflectors fitted so windows can be cracked an inch to allow ventilation and avoid condensation.
I use a 10tog wool filled duvet from Woolroom. I also have a teddy blanket and sleeping bag for extra cold nights.
Wool is the key for warmth. Wool bed socks, hat, snood. I use silk thermal underwear - inexpensive from China as China has a heritage of silk - bought from amazon. I wear thermal underwear day and night.

    • @Daz5Daz
      @Daz5Daz 16 дней назад

To be honest the low fuel cut off just means that the pipe that feeds the diesel heater is a few inches off the bottom of the tank. In my case it stops working when the tank is about 20% full.

We had an Eberspacher diesel heater fitted under the floor of our T5 and it’s been fantastic, yes it was expensive but at what price safety ? Being underfloor mounted means it takes up no storage space and is silent, we leave it on 16*c at night and it cuts in and out as required we have not been cold at night since we’ve had it and we wild camp all year round. Like yourself we also pull the pop top down to reduce the space that requires heating and heat loss through it. Some great tips there 👍🏻🇬🇧

Interesting video. I've been looking into heating for my rather tiny plaggy French van. Mainly for the cab. But... one day I'd like to do out the back as a sort of van I can sit in if I drive somewhere out in the sticks. The cab heater which works off the engine is rubbish. My dog breathing on me would keep me warmer!
I like the idea of the USB blankets - perhaps on the seats. Recently I bought an Allpowers S200 auxiliary battery. Unfortunately it is only 200w, so running an electric heater is not something I could do.
I did think about a diesel heater, with having a split duct to heat the back and another through the bulkhead to the cab. They look rather complicated to install though.
One thing I will do is install a cab headliner - using a thermal windscreen cover. I also need to address the problem of condensation - possibly by adding some vents to the back of the van. This is a big problem. Having mould on the steering wheel and seatbelts if my van has sat for a while during the Winter, isn't that nice.

hiya, great informative video with lots of good tips. Just one thing you might want to check. I notice you have the KS energy lithium ion phosphate battery in your van. I dont know if you know that a KS energy battery was recently responsible for a fire that destroyed an expensive motorhome and that KS energy have been recalling certain of their batteriesas like yours for having a serious electrical fault that can cause the batteries to explode. They have just covered KS batteries being recalled on Motor home Matt's channel. Hope you didn't mind me mentioning it. Of course you probably know and have had the battery checked. I have a jumbo Transit, insulated and ply lined with a 7kW Chinese diesel heater. I’m currently in the Balkans and for a week night time temperatures are minus 3 to 4C. The heater works great but consumes 3 litres every 10 hours so about 3 GBP per night. During the day I use a 2kW convector heater (currently parked on my drive while renovating my house and sleeping in the van).
I have black velvet curtains isolating the cab, but it makes no noticeable difference to temperature. I sleep in fleece pyjamas with socks because otherwise I’m cold. I had one night at minus 18C in a couple of years ago and was warm, but the diesel heater was almost flat out and consumed 7 litres in 10 hours so they are not cheap to run.
This year is colder than normal, so I’m absolutely not looking forward to living in my van for the next 5 months until it warms up in the spring. It will cost me at least 500 GBP in diesel assuming the heater doesn’t die on me which is the main reason I use the convector heater as much as possible.

@@vanlifegoodies I have an awesome (and safe!) candle warmer thingie from a Germany company (KeepCozy) and they are lovely and really raise the temp by a number of degrees. They do NOT cause fires like the terracotta ones which are really quite dangerous. For my small van I would love to use this as a main heating source, however while using the heater I saw how horrible the CO2 levels in the van became. Sure, you can then often open a window etc, but you just can’t heat faster than the heat you are losing. I tried my best, it‘s just not possible. So I sadly have put this idea to rest. I will be installing a diesel heater. My candle heater is now in my office and keeping my toes warm and cozy. For this I can wholeheartedly recommend the little heater.

I know it might sound stupid, but if you put your hair dryer on the engine and on the Leads and spark plugs, your car will fire up first time , in the cold weather.(Guaranteed) And if your windows are icy, then pour lukewarm water on it .
    It doesn't crack
The windscreen (windshield) unless it's really hot water .
Or failing that , put de icer in your Windscreen water bottle..
And also change your battery , spark plugs , and Leads in September./ Say . Ready for the wintertime (fall)
And you should have no problem at all. If you take these small measures
That is exactly what I used to do when i had my vehicle. And I never had a problem with my Ford fiestas 👍, 🇬🇧 .
