One thing to keep in mind (which is in the math but I didn't explicitly call out)- just like the rounding that happens on odd-leveled outposts, odd numbers of survivors also round on Nightmare. So 3 survivors eat 4 food, 4 eat 6 food, 5 eat 7. Etc. This makes odd numbers of survivors kind of the sweet spot when you don't have mods like meal plan or some quirk impacting things.
This is hugee!! I've only played on Nightmare once, and got my ass handed to me early game, so I'm sticking to Dread nowadays. When I do decided to go into Nightmare, this should be awesome! Thank you For someone who's so clear, so high quality in his videos, and so succint, you really are underrated. So glad Youtue decided to randomly recommend this video to me. Well, off to binge watch all your SOD2 videos!
Thanks for the feedback. You're too kind! One thing to keep in mind about Dread vs Nightmare is that with the difficulty sliders you can dial in the game to try things out. The only slider that will cause the map to reset is the bottom one (map difficulty). That slider changes the amount of hearts on the map (among other things). This means on an existing playthrough you could change the community and/or action sliders up or down to try things out. Nightmare is the sweet spot for me (action-wise) because there are no blood ferals. Ha ha... Have fun!
@@GameMnkeYeah I was considering doing a mixed community with that. Maybe with Dread Combat but Nightmare Community and Map settings or something, and slowly wedge my way into being comfortable on Nightmare
If u like trading , i recommend a farm, or hydroponics maxed out, even 2 hydroponics! Save your outposts for ammo and fuel! Max out ammo outposts and u can also craft 2 ammo if have the munitions perk! Its easy then. I only play on nitemare tho and it's still easy. Wish I could get those nexus modds for xbox would make all plague hearts black 😂
Just to reiterate... Food scales with difficulty ONLY for food outposts. Ammo doesn't scale. Farms don't scale (unless you play green). If you like trading and are playing on NM or Lethal, shouldn't your aim be to pick outposts that give you extra resources over those that don't and then... trade for what you need? And if you don't like trading, but don't necessarily dislike it- should you still ignore (overlook) food outpost scaling? Like if I want to own Squelones in Meagher and run brews around for influence, trade, etc, sure... maybe I want some EXTRA food. But on NM I wouldn't avoid food outposts- it's the main resource I'd be converting into influence. So the answer in that situation might just be "why not both?". But in almost all cases you should be taking food outposts on NM/Lethal- because they scale- unless you're specifically trying to handicap yourself.
I noticed that the food that survivors consume will get rounded down (does it get rounded down if the value is above 0.5? say, does -1.75 get rounded down to -1?) but I did not notice that food outposts get rounded up. That's a nightmare-only feature, but still very cool. Nice video!
I don't have a situation lined up yet to test out -.75 rounding up vs truncating (ie dropping fractions). I'm actually inclined to think it may be the latter because the game probably only wants to "punish" in whole numbers. When I run across it, I'll report on it here and the description up above. If you run across it, please lemme know. Have fun!

Did you switch to nightmare yet?
This helped me so much I was completely clueless why I was gaining and losing nothing when the number was .5 more for losing
Glad I could help. It's definitely a bit of a buried mechanic because of how they round.
Always looking for new SoD2 content. Just subbed.

Thank you. I appreciate the compliment!
