I was exposed to porn at around 12, i have been addicted all the way till I was 43, i stumbled on a website were ex porn stars were telling there stories about coming to Christ. Really touched my heart, and the Lord took it away from me. When i was 50 my wife went into a nursing home. She could not take care of herself and i am holding down 2 jobs just to keep what I have. We have not been intimate together since she has been in. Its 4 years now. I was being attacked by lustful thoughts about different women i know. I spend a lot of time in prayer reading the Bible. But the attacks are relentless. I started trying to rebuke the thoughts when they come, it helps some. But it's like a never ending battle of the mind. I will never give in to the thoughts, i stumbled on your teaching. And it helps me. Thanks again. Just wanted to share my story on fighting this. People you can win, don't give up on Christ. I fight every day. Maybe this will help someone. May God bless you. God please be with all the ones struggling with this help them to see you through this. Just remember in the end we win.
I remember the part in Genesis when Jacob wrestled with God. "I won't let you go unless you bless me." O Lord I will continue to hold on to you and I will never let go until I see You face to face in all Your Glory in Heaven! Praise be the name of Jesus Christ
For me, to be free on lust temptation is first in the morning: 1) I'll be grateful to Him for everything He had done in my life 2) Sing 3 songs to glorify Him 3) Forgive my enemies 4) Ask Him to give me the strength to flee from sexual temptations by thinking something good, honorable, just, pure and lovely.
I have learned that holding those verses that I or God/Jesus, bring to mind when this happens, hold it until I get relief! I remember 30 years or so ago on the verge of backsliding, which I eventually did for many years, this verse coming to my mind from Proverbs 24:10 "If you faint in the day of adversity, *your strength is small* " (NKJV). When God granted me repentance after so many years of living in total depravity He pointed out this verse to me as the solution for small strength, Luke 21:36: "But stay awake at all times, *praying that you may have strength* to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man" (ESV). And He showed me that Jesus who always makes intercession for us, also prays for us that we will make it to the end. Glory be to our Lord who has provided so great a salvation for us!
So opportune is this clip... The last couple of weeks have been a time of struggle with purity in terms of my thoughts. Somehow, what I considered a grave lapse on my part, God has graciously used to make me more sober in the fight. I prayed and asked God, "how will you help me keep my mind on you Lord?" And the answer that came was so simple but quite profound to me... If I want to worship Him it starts with my mind... Worshiping Jesus begins in my mind and heart before any other part of my body can follow or join in.. So, the mind is the battle Field. Every time my thoughts begin to wonder , I remember that my thoughts will govern my affections and my actions... I want my affections to be on Christ and i want to serve Him in gratitude... So I want my mind dwelling on Him. The lord is upholding me marvelously by helping me quickly flinch from thoughts that seem to seize my mind.. I don't want to sin because I want Him... God is helping me hold on to Himself.
Had a fantasy that kept beaconing me days and days and sadly I caved in today because my heart wasn't fixed on the Lord and I just wanted to sleep.. Thank you pastor John, my attention span is weakened by the world but I will fight to remember Christ and hold him for as long as I am able. If anyone reads this pray for me.
When Hebrews 12:2 talks about looking to Jesus, it means looking TO Jesus. oftentimes, we merely look AT Jesus; we’ll glance at Him for a few minutes then look away. when we look TO Him, we’re fixing our eyes upon Him, we’re keeping our gaze on Him no matter the waves crashing around us, no matter how tired we get, no matter what.
These really could be used in anything in our lives. I deal with a lot of negativity and I feel If I just say no to those negative thoughts turn and hold then it could be very beneficial.
I struggle so much and am often so discouraged when I keep losing the fight and keep falling into sin again and again. Thank you John Piper for giving me hope, to keep fighting sin. I pray I can fully trust God, but still struggle.
You don't fight lust...you overwhelm it with desiring God above all things...when you love righteousness and holiness you will hate lust and that which is evil...how to Desire God more than sin? "Let the word richly abound in you" 1. Read 2. Pray. 3.Resist Temptation 4. Worship 5. Fast..
What if you are good for a few weeks then you fall back into lust. Sometimes this happens to me and I am so guilty after wards. I always see the opportunity to run but I fell that urge to be satisfied in my body. I wish It was that easy. Does anyone else ever have issues?
Brother I do have same issues with you...but we can do all things through Christ which strengthen us...For this is the will of God, your sanctification.Flee from sexual immorality.. Looking to our blessed hope and glorious appearanceof our Great God and Saviour Jesus Christ.... And anyone that has this hope in Him, purifies himself as He Himself(God) is pure... I have this issue this very minute. I have this addiction to novels and sometimes it leads to porn. I sometimes falls back because I get this feeling that becsuse I am not having actually sex its ok, sometimes its when i have a bad day, sometimes its when I feel unlove. And after the guilt comes, it came to a point where it was easy to pretend and I become cold, I cant even explain it was a if darknest cover my heart I could feel it. But through it all God never left me, he was always fighting for me even though sometimes I could not feel him. How Im trying to resist is reading the Bible, praying, listening to music, listening to sermons, spending times to friends instead of by myself( even if they are not aware that I'm dying inside), and most of all I talk to God I tell him every single detail, I open up my guilt, unworthy next and my failures before him. I understand that I cant fight this by myself, he said I should caste my burden on him and I do that. I understand that I can do nothing of self so I run to him and I keep on running no matter how much I fall. Good luck fighting and I'll continue to pray for us🙏
I have no physical attraction to wife and never have so i feel this is unbeatable because im jealous of couples who are attracted to eachother and feel they have it easy to not be as tempted. They have an outlet of relief with eachother to alleviate passions that i dont have. :( I was more hopeful when single, because at least then there was hope that one day id marry a pretty girl and not be as tempted thereafter. Ive given up on victory and now wait for hell as i think ive apostasized, or even if i havent its a matter of time with how unbeatable lust is since im not allowed to remarry. Its not fair God will judge me in such impossible circumstances, though im the dummy that created these self-inflicted circumstances..
wow. who has such strength? being crucified with Christ, I have none of my own. I must wholly rely on Him. To hold your thoughts on one thing for a very long time doesn't seem possible; certainly not in one's own strength. And, to control totally one's thoughts, again, would be a herculean feat. A good sermonette, I think, but does the author allow for the difference in individuals. The scripture states that some can contain themselves, but others can't. So, when I fail, I must confess my sin, and commit myself to His mercy.
The self-righteous that can do it all also has a severe problem in not recognizing his complete dependence upon grace; that he is as a helpless child before the almighty. And, that any success in spiritual matters is totally by God's grace and only to His glory. Peace.
@@bcbconklin A saved person will put sin to death by the power of God. I'm not saying you have to put sin to death to be saved. But that if your a saved you will put sin to death i.e. grow in holiness and long to be like God and strive to be holy as He is holy because you love Him and He commands it.
you are exactly right, if you study the holy scripture, it says lust is put to death through the Spirit. Now, that's the only way I would think. So, you can control the Spirit can you? Or, what do you do? fast until you die? So, you are telling me all your lust is put to death? Or, are you stretching the truth here? maybe unconsciously...? The formula given above never mentions the Spirit...what sort of agenda is that..? Do you then recommend suicide for people who can't get their lust under control? HEY, not everyone can do it!! It is BY THE GRACE OF GOD ALONE! that a person can have lust destroyed. What else do suggest...maybe standing on one's head and praying constantly for 7 days and 7 nights? Are you maybe a kind of spiritual stalker, that goes around and criticizes people for doing the best they can. You might accomplish a lot more by praying for people rather than just talking. I was a virgin before meeting him but now I'm a mess, I lead the church of God too, I teach ,I mentor, I evangelize..but now I'm dying ... I feel very bad when called to minister.. I'll pray for you to be strengthened. You cannot win this battle in your own power. You must 1)admit helplessness, 2) ask for help from God, 3) trust God and the Holy Spirit to give you new desires, and then ONLY AFTER you have done these things and read how God delivered Israel in all the battles (Judges 6:7-40; Ch 7 & 8:1-21 is a good one to read) for the battles in the Old Testament are an analogy of God's people battling sin..... Then 4)act on what you know is right. Don't forget to 5)thank God for His forgiveness as well as the trials and testing, for they are your sanctification by which you grow in faith, grace, love, forgiveness, and knowledge of the character of God. I have prayed for you that your faith not fail, now it's up to you. And when you turn, teach others that God's pleasure last longer than a 3 sec satisfaction and a regret that last a lifetime.
I dedicate this song to all women who stay single and are married to their career rather than a Godly man God has for you. While a secular song, it has a deep, rich message about sex, marriage and lost, love which "leaves" and "dies." It is a song about human love that fails when a relationship fails. IE when a woman is perhaps not "ready" for marriage or separates herself from her husband. It does bite! I have been there! Separation bites even in a dating/courting context. You may never get over your first love fully! This song took a toll on me when I was single as a younger man. Little bit of a tangent, but can someone help clarify what it means by Jesus saying in Revelation 2:13, "...and you did not deny my faith..." Is that saying faith IN Jesus, or is it possessive, Jesus' faith? Sorry. I'm not a scholar on the English language or the Bible for that matter. Probably not articulating this question well.
