I have been picking up rocks and bringing them home for years. I didn't know any of the things you talked about although I did noticed that come rocks broke with straight lines. Cool and informative video. Thanks.
Very educational & i learn so much bout minerals . Very interesting topic , thanks for sharing us your knowledge . Looking forward for more video like this .
Great video! The sheet of biotite looked more like muscovite and the lighting made the luster a little difficult to see. I still plan to use this with my students. Nice job.
Great videos. I have been using them with my class. They have really helped with the study of rocks and minerals. Also, they have aided in the development of their note taking. Seriously enjoy. Thank you.
Well done . Have you considered doing a DVD for use by gem clubs? There is a great need by the clubs to teach this, it's not that they can't teach it , it hard to maintain uniformity. Once again , well done.
thx dude i needed this for my school i am so glad at least someone so good at science atleast i can answer my teacher any quistion she asks me thxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and youll give me a A++ once again thxxxxxxxxxxxxx hip hip horray hip hip horray

While this information is useful in identifying mineral characteristics, it does not identify specific minerals. For example, how do you identify two different minerals that are soft, fracture the same, are nonmetallic, and have no calcite? Can this be done without expensive scientific equipment? I ask this because my 6-year-old granddaughter is very interested and I would like to help her understand more about it. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Very well explained, but too bad that your close-ups are out of focus. That is a serious shortcoming. Using a macro lens and a slowly rotating turn table would raise your lectures to another level.
I have a geode, and the crystals inside are white. They first smelled kind of like laundry detergent, but now they smell like nothing. It might have been because I cracked it open with a hammer. It isn’t see through, and when I put a fire up to it the color changed to gray and yellow, and it smells like ash now. What do you think it is?
when you were testing the hardness you said it would be harder if it scratched and it wouldn't be harder if it didn't, but what if there was a very sharp edge on a mineral that was softer than glass and it scratched the glass? would that make it harder? Anyways hope that makes sense, anyways great video! Cheers
I have a rock where yellow color mineral distributed around it. I want to know whether it is gold. Is there any other metal or mineral that is yellow in color
Thank you for giving us such an informative video that beginners like me can understand! I've heard the terms "fractured" and "cleavage" but as a woman and retired nurse, they simply sounded like sexy underwear and a medical problem! Lol. (Yes, I subscribed!) :)

Hi I’m a mineraloligist and well done
Thank you sir, just subscribed
Mike Sammartano fuck you
You NEED to focus your camera. Auto-focus is not handling this well, and I gauruntee you that that would improve your watch ability.
Thank you for helping me learn, easy to watch, very nice.
Simple, direct, well-paced, no audio problems, no lighting problems. For beginners like me, this is definitely the most helpful identification video.
@Knoxville Hermit As a beginner myself, I completely agree!
You just did in 8 minutes what my TA couldn't do in 30. Thank you!
Yeah these videos are awesome! Hey I know it's been awhile, but I was just curious; how'd the rest of your class go?
OMG UR A LIFE SAVER!!!!! i had to do a rocks and minerals test and i got ALL OF THEM CORRECT!!! THANK U!! :3
No problem!
This was really helpful. I used it with my 4th grade homeschooler and she was able to understand it more than I thought she would.
Hey Mike, just wanted to say thanks for your range of videos on rocks mate. Helped me out greatly with my year 8's.
No problem, glad they helped!
I'm just curious; how have your studies been going since then?
I have been picking up rocks and bringing them home for years. I didn't know any of the things you talked about although I did noticed that come rocks broke with straight lines. Cool and informative video. Thanks.

Great video! The sheet of biotite looked more like muscovite and the lighting made the luster a little difficult to see. I still plan to use this with my students. Nice job.
How have your classes been going?
Very informative. Much needed for my geology quiz tomorrow!! Thank you!!
I know it's been a long long time, but I came across your comment and I was just curious. How did your quiz (and the rest of your class) go?
Thank you very much.
It's so easy for me to complete my geography chapters after watching your videos.
How did the rest of your class go?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Mike, it's a great helper!
Would u help me about your know..
Not sure i understand your ?, could you explain?
This explains so much better then my Earth Science book, very informative, thank you!
Great videos. I have been using them with my class. They have really helped with the study of rocks and minerals. Also, they have aided in the development of their note taking. Seriously enjoy. Thank you.
I'm just curious; how have your classes been going?
This is comprehensive. Thank you.
Thanks man very informative
This video is very thorough and clear. I don't know if it is just me, but do the minerals look out of focus?
Kelly Garcia No it's not just you, it looked like that to me as well
ya it's a bit out of focus but that's probably due to it being so close to the camera
Why are you asking? worried that field samples should not look out of focus also? His fingernails were also out of focus btw.
LOL
same also sub to Trix Stix!
all your videos are through and explainary..well done sir!
🧠
Always wanted to know these things,,,thank you for helping an old guy out!
Thanks for watching!
Really helpful, I understood everything and I'm able to identify minerals! (:
I'm like James

And non-metal has a few sub-category as well. Pearly, Vitreous, Resinous, Waxy, etc
Thank you this video help me to study for my quiz

watching this video for school but I literally cant get over the fact that this dudes voice sounds exactly like Ted Nivison
I found in one trip to a mountain crystal rocks kind of clear and goldish (not metallic) and I am very curious in finding what type of mineral is this

A mineral with hardness below 5.5 will NEVER scratch the glass. No matter how hard you try or what sharp edges it might have
I have a rock where yellow color mineral distributed around it. I want to know whether it is gold. Is there any other metal or mineral that is yellow in color
Can we take any glass to check the hardness
A very informative video.. thanks a lot
No problem! Let me know if you have any specific topics you'd like me to cover!
Really liked it and help me alot differentiate minerals.
Thank you Mike 😎
