Fun fact: at least some of the recipes in Shadow Ranch actually work in real life! I can't confirm all of them, but I tried the fry bread recipe and it was great! I have a theory that recipes within the games that aren't used for puzzles are just real, functional recipes, and I'm hoping to test some more out.
The amount of rules written to make the tea is sooooo ridiculous. Being right handed or left handed saying blue or red is her favourite color on the day the tea needs to be made. I'm scratching my head
This was such a cozy video! The cooking challenges in Nancy drew are my favorites! This also just reminds me of how disappointing the “cooking” game in Sea of Darkness was.... that was probably the most disappointing part of such a great game! My top favorites are definitely: the snack shop, cookies from danger by design, the last train to blue moon canyon burgers, Bento, and white wolf of icicle creek kitchen stuff!
Sandwich making in Danger on Deception Island is one of my favorites purely because it's one of the best second chances in the entire series and I always have Nancy eat something rancid to have that second chance!
I've never personally felt drawn to any of the cooking challenges, but they can honestly become some of the most memorable puzzles from their respective games. I definitely prefer the cooking puzzles that require players to think in order to complete them, rather than just pile on ingredients. Thanks for another excellent video - I always enjoy hearing your ND related thoughts. 😊
Oh good point! That one didn't cross my mind probably because it wasn't a person eating the food, but I could totally see why it could have been included!
Cooking challenges in Nancy Drew are always fun! Except when I was younger I had a horrible time trying to figure out how to substitute molasses during the cookie challenge in Danger by Design.
The one other thing I’ve noticed with the Johnny Cakes is that you can put different designs on them and then different people around town respond well to the designs you pick. It still doesn’t make sense that Nancy makes pancakes and wanders around town with them in her bag or pocket and then just hands them to people without syrup but hey. One more thing.
I have a good idea for a video: animal companions in ND! Animal characters that show up in the games and often help with puzzles and challenges in the games, ex: Loulou the parrot, Isis the wolf, animal characters that help Nancy crack cases in some way!
Love this video!! One thing I always say to my best friend to annoy her is: “I’m ready to help with more bento!!” 😂 Also the teacher orders at the Snack Shop legit give me so much anxiety!!
This video is making me hungry! HER does such a good job with making the food look appetizing! I think my personal favorite is the burger challenge from Last Train, made even better with the pre-challenge banter from the Hardy Boys. "You can make me a cheeseburger!" Another great video Caitlyn!
My favorite is probably the cookies in Silent Spy. I know it was only there to make money, but it’s still fun. I enjoyed the snacks in Waverly Academy and the burgers in Last Train as well.
Another great video, Caitlyn! It's such a light and cozy video! Thanks for the video! I have a couple of video ideas maybe you could make a video on those? Maybe you could rank the ND Games from easiest to most difficult? Or maybe you could rank the ND Games from the lightest to the darkest? What I mean by that is rank the games on the basis of the amount of dark subject matter in the games. I would love to see those videos as those sound like few more great videos! However, great work! Keep making more videos! :)
Such a delightful video!! These were good, fair categories to judge by. I definitely would have added a personal category of how "Tantalizing" the food is. hehe I definitely give bonus points to any food challenge that makes me daydream about eating the food shown in the challenge and imagine what I would order.
I was looking forward to your new video! Amazing as always, Caitlyn! Cooking is definitely one of my fav things about these games, so satisfying :D Your criteria make total sense, but for me personally cooking doesn’t have to be perfectly justified in terms of purpose, it‘s just so fun! My top 3 are definitely cooking in ICE, SHA and WAC, but there is nothing better than ICE ❤️ I also LOVE the games where you can order food! And the absolute worst one for me is the cooking puzzle in SEA (not sure we can call it actual cooking though). It drives me mad because I can never get the logic behind it, so frustrating 😩
Totally know what you mean, I'll take a cooking puzzle any day too, regardless of purpose :D Yeah, SEA was the only one in the Discord that was voted as not being an official cooking puzzle, I'm guessing because the food isn't technically seen. That puzzle is a toughie for sure!
Yessss! This video was everything I needed it to be. Man am I a sucker for lists and ranking things! Anyways, brb - time to go cook some digital food 😋
I think white wolf should have the purpose star bumped up to 3 imo :) there is a part in the game where it is completely necessary to put paprika on the food to find out the guests allergies for an assignment. It's a perfect cover for Nancy since she's the cook and maid but also serves a purpose in the investigation
I agree with everything except for ICE! The game forcing you to cook before going outside was not only frustrating but mood killing. Especially when you had to do it three times a day. But still, great list! I love your videos!
I never gave any thought to why I always like the food puzzles so much but ✅looks tasty ✅perfectionist ✅love food Hit the nail on the head. And I have the same top 3!
Cooking puzzles reign supreme! They’re (almost) always my favorite part of a ND game. I’ve also noticed some of my favorite games incorporate food more than others. Like TRN and SHA. Also can we all agree SHA is super underrated? I’m starting to realize it comes in near the top of these rankings super often.
I always loved the cooking puzzles. But my favorite has to be again warnings at waverly. My second is white wolf. My third has to be blackmoore manor. Also, the bento boxes in shadows at waters edge.
Yeah, that was an accidental omission on my part! I belatedly realized that I probably should have counted it if I was going to count the Mix Maid puzzle. That's probably about where I would place it on the list too :)
That was the only puzzle that the Discord voted as not an actual food puzzle, I'm guessing because you can't actually see any of the ingredients! But yes, it probably would have been around Bento level on the list since it's so similar!
Oh wow!! I would love to hear how they turn out if you ever do try them, I've always really wanted to give them a go too!
I always wondered why they didn’t have us make a cake recipe that really worked.
I made Rattlesnake Chili recently and it was awesome!
Making tea for Minette (if that counts as a “food” challenge) gave me such trouble that I still shudder to think about it…
I know what you mean! She is quite particular!!
OMG I KNOWWW
The amount of rules written to make the tea is sooooo ridiculous. Being right handed or left handed saying blue or red is her favourite color on the day the tea needs to be made.
I'm scratching my head
One time my friend and I made the drinks (to the best of our ability) from Haunting of Castle Malloy for a party and it was so much fun
OMG that sounds amazing!!
This was such a cozy video! The cooking challenges in Nancy drew are my favorites! My top favorites are definitely: the snack shop, cookies from danger by design, the last train to blue moon canyon burgers, Bento, and white wolf of icicle creek kitchen stuff!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!! Totally agree that the SEA puzzle could have had so much more to it!
The fact that MID isn't at the bottom is a delightful surprise! Lol excellent video! ❤️
Haha, YES. That's when you know I'm trying to be objective is when MID isn't at the bottom! LOL
Sandwich making in Danger on Deception Island is one of my favorites purely because it's one of the best second chances in the entire series and I always have Nancy eat something rancid to have that second chance!
It is just so funny and unexpected! Love it!
The video I never knew I needed (but absolutely did)
I second this. Thanks Caitlyn :)
That's so funny because that was essentially the thought I had while making the video, LOL
I've never personally felt drawn to any of the cooking challenges, but they can honestly become some of the most memorable puzzles from their respective games. I definitely prefer the cooking puzzles that require players to think in order to complete them, rather than just pile on ingredients. They do tend to stand out, good point! Maybe it just feels so realistic so it stands out more? Thanks for the comment!
One food puzzle that didn’t make it was making treats for Lulu in Curse of Blackmore Manor…. I wonder if it got cut in the Discord.
Oof yes, that is a real adult skill and it can be very confusing! LOL
True! Good point! 😊
I have a good idea for a video: animal companions in ND! Animal characters that show up in the games and often help with puzzles and challenges in the games, ex: Loulou the parrot, Isis the wolf, animal characters that help Nancy crack cases in some way!
Stay tuned! :D
Love this video!! One thing I always say to my best friend to annoy her is: “I’m ready to help with more bento!!” 😂 Also the teacher orders at the Snack Shop legit give me so much anxiety!!
Right?! Those teachers are stressful!
This video is making me hungry! HER does such a good job with making the food look appetizing! I think my personal favorite is the burger challenge from Last Train, made even better with the pre-challenge banter from the Hardy Boys. "You can make me a cheeseburger!" Another great video Caitlyn!
CHEESEBURGER. Hehe!! So glad you enjoyed the video!
My favorite is probably the cookies in Silent Spy. I know it was only there to make money, but it’s still fun. I enjoyed the snacks in Waverly Academy and the burgers in Last Train as well.
The cookies are seriously so fun!!
I like that “swuelch” sound when you add jam to the cookies
I do too!!
Another great video, Caitlyn! It's such a light and cozy video! Thanks for the video! I have a couple of video ideas maybe you could make a video on those?

Oh wow, I love both those ideas! I've put them both on my video ideas list, thank you so much for the suggestions!
Such a delightful video!! These were good, fair categories to judge by. I definitely would have added a personal category of how "Tantalizing" the food is. hehe I definitely give bonus points to any food challenge that makes me daydream about eating the food shown in the challenge and imagine what I would order.
Oh I totally know what you mean! Love the idea of a tantalizing category!!
I was looking forward to your new video! Amazing as always, Caitlyn! It's a perfect cover for Nancy since she's the cook and maid but also serves a purpose in the investigation
That's a good point! It's at least necessary part of the time!
Great ranking! I think Bento is my fave; I'm not too fond of the cooking puzzles generally.
Gotcha! I do enjoy the really logic based puzzles too, like Bento!
I agree with everything except for ICE! The game forcing you to cook before going outside was not only frustrating but mood killing. Especially when you had to do it three times a day. But still, great list! I love your videos!
Totally understand!! That was why I couldn't let it be #1, purely because it can really frustrating!
I never gave any thought to why I always like the food puzzles so much but
✅looks tasty
✅perfectionist
✅love food
Hit the nail on the head. And I have the same top 3!
That is such a good way to describe it!! :D

I've been noticing that with SHA so much too!! It needs more appreciation! LOL
Im kinda disappointed that Secret of the Old Clock didnt have a pie baking puzzle.
I always loved the cooking puzzles. But my favorite has to be again warnings at waverly. My second is white wolf. My third has to be blackmoore manor. Also, the bento boxes in shadows at waters edge.
I do really love ordering from the pub in Blackmoor Manor! So fun! Thanks for the comment!
When you make food for Lulu in Curse of Blackmore. Would always make some to just give to her.
So fun!!
How about the tea challenge in danger by design? i guess its not 'food' tho haha
Yeah, that was an accidental omission on my part! I belatedly realized that I probably should have counted it if I was going to count the Mix Maid puzzle. That's probably about where I would place it on the list too :)
This is making me realize that Danger By Design had 3 food challenges! Wow!
@@sorachicken maybe that's why I missed it! It already had so many! Guess it makes sense for France :)
I really hated that tea challenge.
Minette doesn't make it easy 😂
I guess you could say the cake from Shadow Ranch was the cake with the file inside XD (since it led to the escape from the mystery? Like solving it?)
Oh yeah, you totally could!!
My brother actually made a real Shadow Ranch Cake for fun!
How did it turn out?!
My favourite is white wolf!
I really love the White Wolf cooking too! So satisfying!!
Ooo what are your thoughts on the cooking puzzle on SEA? Im sure it’d be quite low down there.
That was the only puzzle that the Discord voted as not an actual food puzzle, I'm guessing because you can't actually see any of the ingredients! But yes, it probably would have been around Bento level on the list since it's so similar!
SNACK SHOP!! 😍
Totally agree with Number 1
Nice!
my fav challenges
Minettes tea
The white wolf of icicle creek cooking chore
Silent spy cookies
Jj lings cookies
Snack shop job
The Gumbo stand
👏
