Now I am a parent myself. I cannot tell you what I would do if my child was bullied and the school does not take it seriously. This is very serious. I was bullied too. Fortunately I told my father and he basically told me to fight back. It wasn’t the best decision becoz it took me to principals office several times and my parents being called to school but it help becoz I got my freedom for the rest of my high school years. Guys, I feel we really need to keep a close eye on our kids for signs of being bullies or bullied. Our kids won’t always communicate with us but that topic needs to be put on the table now and then. My son is going to high school next year and we are already talking about challenges of being in high school. As far as I know my soon is a sweet and soft boy hence I fear. On the other hand it would be a huge shock and disappointment if he turns out to be a bully.

I was also once a victim of bullying in Botswana. My dad was offered a job as a prof at the university of Bots so we were foreigners and some kids in my class actually this one girl used to call me makwerekwere. She would call me skinny bones ( i used to be skinny). Then she would talk about me in class, and kids would laugh at me. Thankfully my parents were very observant and noticed i was sad all the time. My dad knew it was school. I told them what was going on. My parents did not waste time. The very next day, they were in the principles office. This was in the 90s. All i remember was this girl (lead bully) being called into the office and she returned with red eyes. My mum told me the principle disciplened her right infront of them. The bullying ended that day. Infact no one in my class ever bullied me again instead they were all afraid of what would happen to them.

People talk of bullying as if it happens at schools only. Bullying even happens at work places. I experienced bullying at school until I stood up to the bully and that's when everything stopped.
I thought that was the end and I didn't know that the bullying would follow me again in life. At my work place I soon realised that bullying is now rearing its ugly head again. Our so called boss. So called because at our Provincial station there is no substantive post of a head or supervisor. The guy uses bullying tactics each time he wants to push his agenda. Unfortunately everyone seems to be afraid of him and this makes the whole situation worse. It's not like we cannot challenge this guy but what I think is there are a lot of narratives that makes you think otherwise. Yes people might think otherwise but I'm now realising now that the bullying that I experienced at school then is different from the bullying that I'm experiencing now. Also it's not easy to be brave enough and stand up for your rights.

    • @marigoldbeam5475

Don't let the shiny uniforms and manicured lawns fool you. Some of the worst and most systemic abuse of children by other children and by staff happens at affluent schools. Bullies come in all shades and economic brackets. Parents have to do their research and keep their ears to the ground. Never believe the glossy brochure. Speak to people who are currently or have recently attended the school, especially people who share your family's characteristics and to children who have similar characteristics and temperament to your child.

This has got nothing to do with nationality, bullying is a worldwide problem, it doesn't have colour, gender etc. In my primary school I was bullied for 2 years and never told my parents or the teachers. We were the same race, same tribe same class and that was in 1977 & 78. So please don't do what you're doing it's nasty.

He was a child, at school, where he should have been safe. His origins are of no consequence. He was clearly a South African citizen otherwise his parents would probably have been frightened to expose this evil. You wouldn't look at a white woman named Elizabeth and say, oh, her name is English, I think she was from England, if she was for example robbed. You would think poor Elizabeth, this victim of crime. This was an innocent child at school, where he should have been safe. The bullies need to catch, charged and prosecuted, fullstop. Next time it could be your child that they target.

I have a funny feeling about the principal. It is clear he is racist or classist. The fact that when the child was narrating the incident to his parents he mentioned that nothing was going to happen to the bullies because they came from rich families says a lot. It means that other children who had encounters with these bullies and tried to confront or address the issue did not succeed and the reason was the influence of the perpetrators background. This situation requires the entire nation (all sectors ) to stand up and speak out and demand action regarding the management of the school and the school policy review.

Yoooh this bullying is getting out of hand. Today, at 09h21 in the morning, I was still asleep, as I'm doing nightshift this week. My phone rings, it's my 16 year old daughter, she's crying, "Mama, please come and fetch me, 3 girls beat me up, and one of them repeatedly kicked me in my face" I was so livid. I get up, bathe and head straight to the school. To make a long story short, the Principal wasn't even there, they don't know where he is, so the matter was handled by the deputy principal. That woman, she's coloured, she kept defending the bullies and kept saying racist stuff. So I've decided to open a case, battery, assault, attempted murder(the girl said to my daughter she's gonna kill her, and many students also heard her say that). I'm so numb and defeated, to think some kids get away with it all the time. The security guy called me aside when we were leaving the school premises and encouraged me to go ahead and contact the police as this girl has been doing this since Grade 8.😭😭😭

My son was playing Rugby for that school they broke his leg during a match and they didn't call me or rush my son to the hospital instead kept my son there feeling pains till the match was over then they dropped him in the street away from our house left him there then some kids ran to tell me that my son was hurt and he was dumped there by 2 guys in a car .so I went there to the corner of the street asked people to help me tske my son home he couldnt walk then I phoned my sister who came and drove us to JHB hospital . His leg was confirmed broken they put a plaster on the leg gave him crutches that was now around 12midnight imagine the pain he went through and the trauma . Well I went back to that school following day no one wanted to take accountability and they did not even listen to me my voice was not heard no one cared . 😢😢

This is extremely disturbing and si very sad, we send children to school to get an Education and not for them to be bullied and killed. I hope the justice system brings justice for this family and this young boy that lost his life. The school must be brought in to account too, they can't just dismiss this matter like that. I'm really heartbroken about this. 😢

Im so sorry about brian who lost his life like that. I know how bulies work. I started an organisation in my community for School Safety early 2000s against bullying theft and vandalizing. Due to lack of funding we bad to stop our services
. Each time a leaner die I cry because of how we used to tackle bullies. I would like to transfer my skills to other people who can be assisterd with funding to carry on with the programme in schools Thank u for the video l will also try to assist by going back to GDE maybe now someone will be interested on stopping bullying in our schools.
