What do you have sitting on top of the platter, under the slip mat? It looks about a 1/4 inch thick. Is it one of those rubber Technics mats?

Yep it's the rubber technics mat I just left it on there - found it easier to get the tonearm level without much fuss. Figured it might somehow improve the sound too, but I have no basis for that claim. You recommend not using it?
I was also curious to try one of those Funk Firm Achromats

@@djluminol this one actually came with my older Technics SL-1600. The rubber mat that came with the SL-1210 was slightly thinner.
