Yep, I know the Venom Shock is a little closer to the IQ Tour Solid on paper with the more medium differential, but the Shock overall is stronger and more dynamic than the IQTS, so from on lane reaction and general shot shape, I think the Shock and Ascent are pretty close, Shock may still be a little earlier and stronger.
@@LukeRosdahl This is fantastic to hear. I have a V. Shock and love it but my pin to PAP is max leverage so I have been thinking about drilling another a little weaker for later. Now I'm thinking about the Ascent instead. This is very helpful. Thanks.
I use the original Xponent as my benchmark ball for senior league but was thinking about replacing it. Was considering the Ion Pro but now see the Ascent. How does the Ascent compare to the Ion?
The Ascent is basically a slightly stronger XPonent, the Ion has a quite a bit stronger cover than both and is mildly asymmetric, so I think it would be a full step up from the XP and about a half step up from the Ascent
My best comparison is a Marvel S. I know the Marvel S had the NRG Solid cover which would be considerably stronger, but I see it fitting the same place in my bag.
Yes actually, that's a good observation. The Ascent and Power have similar covers again, but the Power is an asym so added torque. The Peak has the strongest cover but is still symmetric, so it is stronger, but still not as sharp down lane as the Power is.
I'll have a video coming soon to help break it down more, but pearl, hybrid and solid is the TYPE of cover, R2S, NRG, eTrax, etc is the cover FORMULA. Formula is the dominant factor, it's like what number the golf club is, but pearl, hybrid and solid are like the shaft types, like graphite, steel, and stiff steel, etc.
For someone with higher revs, would it make sense to use the Ascent to control the fresh from straighter and then use the Peak to move in and cover boards as transition happens?
Yeah I think so, sometimes balling UP has to happen when you move inside on house shots because you're moving into more volume and bigger angles, so going stronger as you move in makes more sense more often than not.
This ball seems like it could replace a sensor solid and have the added benefit of adding more surface to it for an earlier read. Good ball to have in the bag for tournaments
Awesome video and explanation of cover formula. I feel like people tend to forget about that
Very interesting comparison to the Summit Peak. Appreciate the details in how to look at these (and other similar balls). Great stuff as always!
0:59 I was in disbelief you didn’t say “darn string pins” right there hahaha 😂
Luke, great video. You give such good information. Did I understand you correctly where you feel this Ascent is very similar to the Venom Shock?

This is basically just another TNT. The Ion Max will have NRG Solid, so that'd probably be closer to the S
Could you have all 3 in the bag, i have the ascent and love it

I thought T-bass was throwing a Halo Vision there for a second (had the volume down) 😂
4:27 Mind explaining what cover formula vs cover is? Thank you for the video

@@LukeRosdahl I really appreciate you taking the time to write that. Thanks

How would the ascent compare to the hyped solid?
Straight step up, definitely a much stronger core in the Ascent, but about same strength of cover. Stronger rolling Hyped Solid basically.

I mean, you could just add more surface to a sensor solid and get an earlier read too . . but yeah this would be a versatile tournament ball too
lol @ no big words. ty. me no smart.
