The bass voice leading to the cadence is just amazing. Bach has the best melodic, fluid basslines.
been taking bass lessons after being self taught for 20 years and my teacher has me learning all these invention bass parts to work on sight reading. It's so much fun.
I watch you play, then I look at myself. And I think. Wow I see why my piano teacher won't let me off this song...
Bro calling piece a song is sacrilegious

Haha!! You did a funny!
Hmm, or shall we say, tickling the ivories.

every one of your movements are so fluent its crazy, im learning this piece and hoping that i can one day get to be where you are with it, great job and thanks for the performance
same actually
How did it go?
I learnt to play this piece 20 years ago in my youth....what's really amazing is that Bach still kicks some serious asses, 3 centuries later!! :))
Gully Foyle bach is amazing. My favorite composer of all time
Of course, Bach was the main inspiration of so many musical geniuses!! Especially of Chopin who always recommended all his pupils to learn from J.S.Bach,
It's worth tracking his sons works, too.
I don't believe my friends think I mean it when I say that Bach was the greatest human being ever to have lived.
I know it's daft thing to say but I still think it's true.
Gully Foyle you’re three hundred years old, Gully.! (Hoho)
Except no-one even knows whether he was a real person. Bach definitely was and we have solid proof that the work attributed to him was really his. We have no such evidence of Jesus if he even existed, for which there is no reliable evidence.
This is awesome. I used to play this close to this tempo when I was 16 - don’t ever take 22 years off piano. Even with muscle memory I’m only back to like 3 minutes.
Played 5 years, then took 2 years off :/ can kinda play the first two inventions tho! In my prime I used to be able to play 4 of them
This is played at the right tempo; so many other people play it too fast.
It’s because Bach inventions have no tempo. Any musician can interprete it like they want.
I play it even slower
@@worldlegacy7640 No tempi are marked for the Inventionen. Whatever is on your score was an editor's decision, not Bach's.
Bach didn't write a tempo for this piece, but most interpretations write at least vivace for it. I personally can barely do a clean allegretto at certain parts of this piece, though I'm trying to get it faster.
As Bach's inventions are mainly considered as exercises and help tremendously in improving technical ability and learning independent hand motion, I guess it's fair to treat it more like a technical exercise and try to increase the tempo as much as possible while maintaining correct rhythm and playing the notes clearly. If you look at it that way, there's no right or wrong tempo for this piece!
@@Alpysf You said it best.
My son just played this song. He played when he was 9 year old. As I remembered, he cried when he couldn't play it. However, he practiced again and again many times many months. Then, now he can play this. I am so proud.
1, 8, and 13 are the nicest sounding inventions imo
Yet another piece of music that I loved to play. I was 12 when I played this. I had to wait for my oldest sister to finish the book. We couldn't afford many books of our very own. I played this at festival, an annual event at another university. We were judged and given certificates. The highest was Superior Rating 😊❤Yes, indeed I was Superior Rating. ❤I played Rondo rather than scales, to calm my energy for my piano lessons. My teacher knew, piano was my way of communicating feelings. I would take one piece of music and play it 10 different ways, depending on what I was feeling, thereby, not being punished. So, I would have 5 pieces to practice and learn each week. They were all quite different. She could tell how I was doing by which song was practiced the most. If it was Chopin's Nocturno, or one of many 2 and 3 part Inventions, or a Fugue. My orchestra teacher also picked up on this, despite never saying a word. She tricked me into an audition for the Annual Youth Symphony. We played our usual duets, that required me to also play parts of the second violins, on my viola. I didn't know we were going to play my cello, so I didn't bring my books. I got one of my piano books out and played the first song. It was "The Swan". I didn't know it was a famous cello piece. I received first chair on any instrument I chose. I chose viola so my friends could participate, 1 violin, 1 cello...both first chair.😊❤
It's always a pleasure when I get a piece to study and then find it played by Paul in this channel
Paul is an award winning Painter and studied at the Royal Acadamy of Arts. He just so happened to play piano very well, but didn't want a life as a concert pianist. So he paints, gives piano lessons and produces these excellent You Tube videos. We are blessed to appreciate these Masterclasses of technique.
This was my first classical and first Bach piece I ever learned a few years ago. Love it!
I’ve been trying to find this song fur decades. I first heard it in a video game called Looping and I finally found my answer.
I'm just learning this piece. I can't keep my little fingers from curling up and getting all tense. I am struggling so hard to get my hands to completely relax. It's like I have some involuntary connection that causes my little fingers to move when I don't need them to move.
Charles Laine do you have a sheet music with the correct fingering markings on it? you shouldn't be using your little fingers too much for this piece
Charles Laine I am to
Yes, I remember this one when I was a child learning this, this one is so so so hard !!! left hand is 2 seconds delayed than the right one, though playing the same lyric.
Start with c major invention
If you are still having this problem try Hanon's the virtuoso pianist in 60 exercises.
My son is learning this piece, very beautiful piece!
What a beautiful piece
Why hello there good sir i hope your having a good day😌
@@Simple-qx2rj you aswell
BEST VERSION ON RUclips !! Thankyou Mr Barton! This helped me a lot with my concert! Thanks!!!
I LOVE how you balanced the hands throughout the whole piece but especially measures 19-25
I love the 2 part inventions and use the C major as teaching material and for performance. I really look forward to your recording of the full set, Paul.
As Bach himself intended!
This was one of my favorite songs playing piano growing up.
Gorgeous. I've just started learning this piece and I'm playing it painfully slowly. It's a real workout for my brain lol
It doesn’t sound good when it’s slow. I’m learning it right now too slowly and it’s painful 😫 You can do this!!!
Yeah I'm learning it too 😭😭😭 it sounds weird when played slow
Me too and I have to learned like in two weeks
Just how? Omg youre so good at it how i usually mess it up when i play it quick
Remember this piece was written as an excercise for his son. Inventions were never performed in public, they are basically fugues just WAY simpler. However, Bach made sure his inventions were beautiful
The good old days.
Today Inventions start at Grade 7 or 8. There is so much to learn just to get there. I'm just starting to learn CPE Bachs "The True Art of Playing Keyboard Instruments". Why not? He had a good teacher.
You're still as fresh as ever. Love it Paul
This one is so great, you cannot get it out of your head if you hear it once. I listened all of the 2 part inventions a while ago and then kind of forgot about it then I read somewhere that these are easier to play than WTC and I was like 'hmm 2 part inventions... tu DU tu DU tu TUU dududududududu'
To take such a simple concept of a canon and make it into this piece of art is something only Bach could have thought of.
1 year in: I FINALLY FINISHED THE SONG!!!! AHHH IT SOUNDS SO GOOD!!!
congratulations!!!🥳
Excellent playing Paul. So good❤️
I'm studying Bach and learning alot watching and listening to your videos. Thank you for sharing. High quality work for sure.
The musical sequences in Bach's songs seemed to define much of that entire time period of piano music.
*hapsichord music
(besides, piano didn’t even exist in bach’s time)
@@raccoltavideo3355 Yes they did
Yo actualmente acabo de terminar la invención número 1 en Do y ahora estoy empezando la numero 8, me está costando muchisimo mas que la primera, pero verlo y escucharlo me alienta a continuar practicando hasta que me salga igual que a Usted. Saludos!
YO TAMBIÉN y soy española
I remember this from the original 'switched on bach' album. Very nicely done.
Amazing! Just wow! Shocking! 😮
Una pieza que aviva mi corazón
Beautiful interpretation
This reminds me 40 years ago when I was boy playing this heavenly stuff (of course not that well). Anyway, I look back and I fell it is a pity that I can play this anymore. Too late for me, it makes me really sad.
If you could do it before than you can do it now. I'm learning this song. Come on, I know you can do it.😏
Such a smooth performance
A piece I'll Treasure in even the fiercest of snowstorms.
Who here is listening to this after 8 years of this post
👇
its my favorite melody from Bach
Something I always wanted to learn. I’m ok with just hearing and seeing it played today. Thanks to YT. Well executed, and thanks for sharing!
Great job, the dynamics were perfect! I don’t want to be “that person”, but I think the eighth notes are more staccato.... I’m probably mistaken anyways lol
Briana Cantero no you’re right!
Bach didn't use staccato because his music mainly is written for harpsichord.
@@00Gym_Motivational_Shorts Yeah, Bach played on piano only a small handful of times in his life. All his piano music was written mainly for harpsichord and anything such as staccato notes were added on later.
I think on the clavier there were no legato or staccato. But i'm not sure about the sign of dynamics or punteggiatura
As a person who is learning this song all I have to say is: h o w.
Estou treinando para minha competição de piano haha.
Beijos do Brasil Paul! 🇧🇷
Good luck!
Please do all of Bach's keyboard works. I know that's asking a lot! You have a wonderful touch with his music.
This was the first song of Bach that I learned in early teens. I didn't have the sheet music, but I had an old LP record of it, and learned by listening repeatedly, first concentrating on the right hand notes, then the left, matching the notes on the piano, putting both to memory. I took a long time, was total beginner. I didn't know how to read music yet! So this song is deeply ingrained in my consciousness. It rings with sublime and noble beauty. Wonderful rendition.
Your time is so on point.
That's kinda tricky to learn , and you did a great work!❤
Grazie per l’esecuzione del Fa
nella terza battuta
Tutte e due le dita sulla stessa nota
Those fingers are really playing with the keys man 🎹
This helped massively much
What a fascinating piano feature - I want that pedal! Fabulous playing, sir. (That e-flat though… 😜)
Бессмертный Бах и прекрасное исполнение 👏👏👏👏⚘️
Impresionante! Tocas muy bien!!👍👏
Aún siendo un ejercicio para principiantes Bach hizo pequeñas joyas con las invenciones y muchos preludios dl Clave bien Temperado...
Damn you make that look so easy.
So accurate and masterful.
That is why BACH for me is the amazing composer of his time. Brain twist.
Wow !BRAVO!
well, i cant call piano soft when this song is playin. holy hell, what a banger
Almost 40 years after, I discover what was that music on Looping.
I have been listening to this play for nth time now, it tickles me every time 😂😂😂😂
Good work, well done!✨👏🏼
Thankss I was looking for thiss
Ooohh!!!! Fantastic!!! I love Bach!!!!!!!!! I love Paul!!!!!!!!! THANKS!!!!!
Marzia Gaggioli oddio sei quella del video di Daniele doesn't matter xD
I’ve played this since I was in 9th grade (I’m old now) and it never sounded this good.
I like it so so so much!!!!!!!
Hi Mr. Barton, good playing. I was enjoying listening to your performance when I noticed in the 3rd last bar you sounded an E flat instead of an E natural. It sounded weird and I thought I bring it to your attention and make the necessary adjustment. Thanks.
Magnifique🙏
Glorious!
You play very well!!!!
@0:30 Why do you press the A key there (with your right index finger) at the beginning of Measure 16? Shouldn't it be Bb key (Bb-G-Bb-G-D-G)?
Occur a similar thing on the 21cc, left hand, 9 note is a c and he is playing a natural B...
I learn to play this invention.Good luck👏💜🔐
Am I the only one that hears trumpets and bells when this marvellous piece is played?
Excellent. Merci et bravo. Cordialement Olivier
Wonderful
Plz bach come to Brazil. i'm ur biggest fan

I like this song I play it😊❤🎉
Excellent. Very beautiful! I love this piece, i'm having 3 years piano experience, do you think it's the moment to learn this piece or should I wait a litlle? Thank you.
Go head. My son is learning right now on his own. He's having 6~7 month piano experience.

I love the sound of your piano. Do you use the pedal to make the sound more beautiful??? My girl's also playing this piece but the sound is not as good as yours.
My girl is listening a lot of your music as a model for her practicing. Thank you for posting videos!
His choice of pedalling is in the description
Anyone have advice I have to play this piece for my guild exam and I can't play it hands together faster than 50
😍 Wish i could do that! 🩷🩷
Why is the theme of the left hand always soft?? Is that on purpose? Because I was told to play it also louder, so it stands out.. So I am curious why you do it this way
0:06 actual beginning
You saved me 6 seconds of my time that I would've never gotten back, Thank you!
This is essentially a hand synchronization routine.
Why do you think invention # 13 is the most popular one?
I'm playing all the inventions through at the moment and I've played the first one succesfully but I'd wish to know should I play them in order or some way else? By the way, greetings from Finland!
I'm recording the complete set at the moment. Highly recommended to play them in order from 1 to 15 as they do get progressively more complex and challenging. Another useful thing about learning them in order is they go through the keys from left to right, starting from C major with no. 1 on to B minor for no. 15
I have given you the 3.5 like
I’m learning this piece for a competition in two weeks😅
How did it go
@@charlieropesocks5793 it went good! :)
Doing this for competition
I'm here after playing Looping on ColecoVision😎
Hello! Love your performance. I noticed in your right hand that you are playing the staccato notes more legato e.g. 3rd and 7th measures. Is this correct? I love how this sounds. When I play, my notes are lighter and more staccato.
Is it should be E flat on left hand at measure 32? Cause its sounds better then my normal E at Henel Verlag edition🌚
delicious F major
Why delicious f major?😰
How can someone dislike it?
