    kindly post a video for non tanker people tanker operation video like how to commence inerting ? how to star crude oil washing inter gas operation during loading and discharging? inert gas system how it works and principle of odmc as per annex one ? these topics have been always confusing

    When I was examined, I have been told that I do not have Ballast tanks, how do I correct the angle of loll then? Or is it a dead-end question that has no answer if you have no ballast tanks?

    • @SteeringMariners
      @SteeringMariners  4 года назад +3

      No, its not really a dead-end question:) You can use cargo to correct angle of loll but the process is much trickier and difficult to achieve at sea. Ballast is easier to shift and adjust (also faster) in sea and in port and hence its the first choice when it comes to using it for correcting angle of loll.
      The key thing to remember is that our aim is to lower the Centre of Gravity (G) which can be achieved with cargo or by ballast.
      With cargo, you can shift or jettison or discharge if required.

      @@SteeringMariners if I would to ask you to show me on a sketch, how would you move the cargo, it still would be specific to the cargo and a ship. Or is there general pattern?

    hello sir ..
    what difference does it makes if we ballast the lower side tank first or the higher side. in both the cases as we are ballasting, so anyhow the 'g' would come down in both the cases, the why specifically the lower side .
    sir i am having this doubt .. please explain this, i am having exam next week ...
    thank you ..

      Correct me !.. If I'm wrong ? But ! I presume the main reason for filling the lower side tanks first is to create a gradual process in bringing down the centre of gravity to a positive "GM" avoiding the possibility of sudden winds n waves causing an instantaneous flopping over to the opposite side effecting shift of cargo which could lead to capsizing of the vessel ?

    Kindly confirm that the lower side is preferred over the centre tanks if available with same moment of area ,or here the consideration has been done with centre tank with more moment of area,leading to the choice of lower tanks,since we are advised to firstly fill in the centre tanks and then go for lower side tanks,Kindly clear the case and so my understanding over it ?

      Nabajyoti....its more complex than that. Practically, we start filling the tanks with 2 main objectives: Reduce the FSC or Increase the GM (making it positive). Increasing the GM will give us more positive righting lever to correct the angle of loll.
      You start with tanks with low moment of inertia because the resulting FSC will also be low. At the same time, we aim for lower tanks to bring G down and make GM positive.
      Or you can top up tanks with high MOI to reduce the FSC.
      The behaviour of the vessel with any of the actions has to be observed. Sometimes, it may be more than 1 tank.
      However, we can't generalise and assume than center tanks need to be filled first or later.
