Hello fellow Alum! Next step... Masters at Georgia Tech (I just did) :)
I’ll be there too soon!
I needed to watch this video. I am halfway on my cloud computing but I was going to give up but your video is motivating me. What company were you working at that raised your pay so I can apply because this help desk position with Linux lpi certification is not doing it for me.
It was a small subcontracting company. But any job will give you a raise if you have the ambition.
I have my IT diploma but no luck so far in landing even an entry level job. I am 29 so I am not sure if I should go for this WGU IT degree since its online, it will save me time, but I don’t know if it will actually help me find a job?
If you already have a degree there’s no point in getting another one without experience first. Try applying to helpdesk and desktop support roles.
@@cyberadvent I have a diploma in IT, but with the diploma, I am still not getting any jobs
Going to have to get some internships
When you say they give you these resources. Do you mean it’s paid for? Are books paid for? What does the tuition actually pay for?
I’ll make a video explaining the resources & everything is included in the tuition.
is cyber security a career which can be interesting and entertaining? Do you collaborate with others and how long is the average work week?
There are multiple disciples within cybersecurity and you will frequently work with different teams depending on the situation. As a beginner you will most likely start with triaging alerts found on your SIEM but might go work with Malware Analysts after finding a new malware or you might speak with a Detection Engineer about why a rule has such a high false positive rate. It depends on the company and their work culture.
@@cyberadvent thanks, im in between thinking about IT bachelors/masters orthe cyber security program, not sure which to choose to study, any thoughts?
@@michaeljimenez7283 I completed the cybersecurity program a friend of mine completed the IT management program. We both work at the same place. As long as your willing to put in the work either degree will allow you to enter cybersecurity.
@@cyberadvent thank you for your help i appreciate it earned a sub!
@@michaeljimenez7283 Thank you!
What is your opinion on high schoolers wanting to go to wgu. Should they go? Or not?
WGU requires applicants to either have college experience already or a certification. If you are looking for an inexpensive degree is the way. But make sure to get an internship while attending WGU
@@cyberadventthis isn’t true, you can go to WGU right out of high school.
Were you already in cyber security before finishing at WGU?
Technically yes. I was working in a SOC
I graduated and cant find a job, would love to connect with you
Let’s talk. I would like to set up a way to connect if you don’t mind helping me out.
Did you go straight to cyber security or did you have entry level experience first?
No, check out my breaking into tech video. (It’s one of the first three)
@@cyberadvent Great thanks
Thinking about WGU how does the BS degree compare to bootcamp ?
Think of WGU’s degree as multiple different bootcamps that’ll give you a bachelor’s at the end.
@@cyberadvent true I'm leaning that route thanks
