    Love your integrity! I bought a Flybird adjustable bench in 2021. I bought it because it was foldable and could travel with me to my college, which was a 9-hour drive away. I only use the bench for emergency situations (bad weather) when I can't get to my commercial gym. I only use the bench for DB exercises. It's held up for me, but only because I'm not going anywhere near its limits.

    Things are quite different in Canada. The cheap Amazon benches go on sale all the time. At regular price, the Flybird is $237 CAD and similar one like the Magic fit is $181 CAD - and like I said they get discounted all the time (that is after tax and shipping). For comparison, the Rep bench being used for comparison is $585 CAD shipped to my house in the Toronto area - i.e. like 3 times the price. Plus, the rep one is super heavy and can't be stored away easily while the Amazon ones can be folded and stored wherever. These are totally different markets and serve different people. Lots of women or older people, or people without much space or anyone not lifting big weights is probably fine with the Amazon benches.

    • @MacStrengthCo
      @MacStrengthCo  Год назад +1

      I agree elderly and children would benefit from a cheap wobbly bench. I know plenty of people that own these benches and can't wait to upgrade. I just gave my honest opinion it's not an 800 lb bench like they claimed. How much is your life worth? Save up and by a good one.

    • @steverapos3904
      @steverapos3904 Год назад +1

      @@MacStrengthCo yes, I agree it is definitely not an 800 pound bench. I would say even guys consistently benching 225 probably need better. My point is that a lot of people are not actually pushing that much weight - the fact that so many consumers (not just reviewers) like the bench goes to show it has a place in the market.

    • @MacStrengthCo
      @MacStrengthCo  Год назад +1

      @@steverapos3904 I think you brought up a larger point. Me being Canadian can honestly say you guys get the short end of the stick on consumer goods. Since I moved to the USA everything is cheaper and easier to get "free shipping" etc. I completely feel your pain finding gym equipment for a reasonable price. It's not easy up there. Thanks for the feedback and as always appreciate your comments.

    Thank you for making this video. Super entertaining and you’re the only person online who did an actual weight stress test on a bench that went to failure. Something I’ve always been curious about.
    Honestly this bench seems like a low level scam. It’s a crap bench like the cheap Marcy benches that you can buy for $60, but it’s triple the price. Crap benches have their place, but if anyone wants a cheap bench that is made to be used lightly and thrown out soon, they’re not supposed to cost $150-200. For the same money there are so many reasonably well made options.
    For what it’s worth, I don’t think this bench has any meaningful margin of safety at all. If it fails at 650, to be safe you wouldn’t want to go over like 150lbs.

  • @jamestonbellajo
    @jamestonbellajo Год назад +4

    This bench is complete crap but if you look at the price history, it’s almost always at a “sale” price of $150 or below. It’ll spike up to its “normal” price of $240 every now and then, but it’s basically perpetually much lower than that. In fact, it’s $126 if you get it from Flybird directly.
    I wouldn’t get it at any price but it’s disingenuous to say you can pay just a bit more (~$70) and get a REP AB-3100/3000. Those are basically double the price of this bench at its usual price, not a few bucks more unless you’re unlucky and buy it during a short price spike.
    Again, it’s crap but it’s also not marketed for barbell work either. And I think most of the paid reviews (Coop, Gluck) talk about its intended target market to be fair to all of them. It’s marketed toward people who aren’t home gym enthusiasts and likely new to fitness who won’t be pressing more than 30 lbs on dumbbells.

    • @MacStrengthCo
      @MacStrengthCo  Год назад

      I’m not going to make assumptions that a bench that’s official retail price is this and the weight limit is also a lie.
      Your not wrong but company’s paying reviewers to push products with inflated weight ratings and untruthful pricing.
      I even mention everything you did in the video. It wouldn’t be bad if they rated it at an honest 400 lb limit and priced it at $150 not some inflated retail price to lie to consumers.
      People that have this bench have since reached out and told me my assessment was spot on and they don’t recommend it.

    • @jamestonbellajo
      @jamestonbellajo Год назад

      @@MacStrengthCo agreed. I don’t like pricing strategies where something is artificially on sale to show that it’s a good deal when that’s the actual real price. I started my home gym with another Flybird bench and adjustable dumbbells when COVID started so I was in the target market. Fortunately I got it second hand for dirt cheap and was able to sell it for the same price. It was fine for what it was but once I knew I was going to keep working out at home, it had to go. I didn’t even look up the specs then but I’m sure Flybird was just as dishonest about its capacity.

  • @PaulieHo

    I have the lowest tier flybird adjustable (bought it for ~$100), I really only use it for decline crunches. I never decline bench and definitely wouldn't on this thing. For sure. My issue wasn’t with the bench but that they advertise it as a $250 bench that’s 800lbs rated. It’s truly a $100 bench for light use bench work!👍🏻

    I purchased an Olympic flybird bench about a year ago. I gotta say. Its pretty damn sturdy. Im 40. Been lifting since HS off and on. Got serious about 10 years ago. So on chest days. I do alot of dumbbell work,flat,incline,decline. Flat bench i workout regularly with 275,315,365. Drop set to 225 and rep out till failure. Its held up good for me. I dont use the leg extention or the preacher curl feature because its trash.i have other equipment for those exercises. But the bench itself is a beast in my opinion and im 225lbs. Add that to the weight i push. Its doing its thing and then some for the price. I get what his demonstration revealed. But honestly. If you put that much weight at the weakest point of any bench. Most of them will flex or snap. I dont care what company manufactures it. Just my opinion.

    I think this is a lot more accurate to how the weight is spread on the bench while benching in real life, though idk if a ~1” bar fair as you probably have a few inches across your shoulders. But really way more accurate than spreading out 45lb plates. I’m curious about standardization for testing. Could the rep ab-3000 handle its rated load tested in the same way?

    • @MacStrengthCo
      @MacStrengthCo  Год назад +1

      It’s not perfect but all the benches failures have been that back piece breaking of bending not so much the overall structure. The REP bench is more than twice the thickness on the backing plate and no question in my mind would handle the 1000lbs it’s rated for. The problem I had is the bar kept rolling down even at lower weights as the bench sagged.
      Down the road I’ll make a testing fixture to better distribute the pressure.
