    Great job. I have a 1989 17' classic Montauk that I bought for 6k. I put a lean post in last Spring and love the way it feels. I'd love to repower and paint.

    I have a 17ft I’m prepping to overhaul. Is it a good idea to have the gas tank below deck or above? 🤔

    I have a 1963 13’ whaler. Is it too small for a console like this? Thanks and beautiful work

    • @BobbyJensenJr
      @BobbyJensenJr 2 года назад

      Appreciate your comment and compliment, it was 24” wide which was ok sized on the 15’ it was difficult to walk around for a big guy.

    • @williamwallace7986

      I did it with a 13 whaler twice. Very similar set ups. I played around with the placement of the console by changing where and how I placed my fuel tank (under the seat, in the back, in the console) and also by using a jackplate that extended my motor out. Very very functional and fun. If you don’t mind putting in some elbow grease, ripping out and changing things, working with fiberglass, the end results are only limited by what you can imagine. The space is a little limited with a 13, that’s why I moved the console towards the front and extending the motor back, and keeping the fuel more aft allowed me to place the console more forward and still balance nicely. The console being more forward allows more space to move about. It got on plane quickly even with a 25hp with two people.

    Looking to do a center console on my 15, what height did y’all end up going with and how’d you figure out where to put it for the best balance? Turned out awesome btw!

    • @BobbyJensenJr
      @BobbyJensenJr 3 года назад

      The console is 36” I believe but slightly short. The balance is a guess almost because weight of driver will vary the balance anyways. Put the console in and go with what feels best to you.

    Is that just like a matte black gel coat on the exterior? Im not sure if its the camera angles not showing any gloss on the paint job or if you went with a flat paint option .

    • @BobbyJensenJr
      @BobbyJensenJr 3 года назад

      the console is a urethane while the sides and bottom are two part gloss but sprayed which gives it a glossy but textured more durable finish

    How did you install those cleats without access to put a backing plate or a thoughbolt ?

    • @BobbyJensenJr
      @BobbyJensenJr 3 года назад

      They are not backed just pre drilled, filled with 3m 5200 lagged. They are just to hold fenders, would never use for mooring it. Imagine one could open a side underneath the rub rail then slide a plate under the gunwale and send a bolt through that and then seal back up and cover with rail. Good question

      I am thinking about doing the same thing with a fuel tank. But I have had no real reference. My understanding was that the vent had to be outboard which gives me caution. Have you any knowledge of wether doing it the way you did it is considered safe other than your personal experience. Any reference or data that you know of. I am probably going to do it anyway. But after doing yacht restoration for over forty years. I actually don't have a answer to this
