- The OVERDRIVE Adv shootout is back! This time we have the new 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 slugging it out with the BMW R 1250 GS, Harley Davidson Pan America 1250, Ducati Multistrada V4 S & Honda Africa Twin 1100 Adventure Sport. We rode across cities, highways, mountains and river beds to help you understand how these five motorcycles are so similar to each other on intent and yet so different on how they go about doing their business.
The riders on this expedition were Nikhil Balakrishna of Big Rock Dirt Park, Vignesh Chandrasekaran, Areeb Sherwani, Christopher Chaves and Rohit Paradkar.

I will go for the Africa Twin🔥
And you won’t go wrong choosing it!
NICE 👏 ! Good review by all folks together, kudos to everyone for this fantastic video.
Good review guys
Waiting for KTM 1290 Super Adventure S & R to line up
Relax guys this is paid promotion 😂..
They just ingonerd Legendary Africa twin 😢
Folks at Autocar dissed the Africa Twin out on basis of spec sheet comparison. Any half decent motorcyclist knows motorcycles are more than just spec sheets. The Africa Twin held its own infact bringing in features which none of the others have in this comparison !
One thing these guys should've talked about is the everyday usability. The Africa Twin is hands down the easiest bike to ride in the city. The DCT version is so effortless in stop and go traffic. The heat management is absolutely stellar. 2 hours stuck in Bangalore traffic and there's barely any heat. And the best part is that it sips on fuel. On a full tank, cruising around 100 - 120 kmph gave me 26 kmpl. None of the other bikes come close.
That being said all these bikes are the pinnacle of motorcycle engineering. Bikes which makes you want to dream.
@@vishnuvenugopal4303 holy shit bro 26 kmpl!!!!
Bro and Kawasaki versys 1000
I concur with Vishnu. I’m getting around 22-26kmpl on the highway with the DCT sitting comfortably at triple digit speeds.
They haven't covered anything on the bike since past few years infact. Surprising.
Africatwin is something else when road ends🔥
The tribe 🤩
True
Over 20,000 on my 2020 ATASes, and love it! Especially in my back yard Rockies Canada. No regrets, very minimal issues with the bike, and extremely capable. Lots of Honda dealers in Canucksville, very few BMW. So for me quite a bit easier decision. Enjoy any of these bikes if you've got one. They'll instantly make your day a smiley one :-)
@@billmcmeekin7909 true that
Africa is amazing bike but the centre of gravity is high and it’s not so suitable for hard off road ..
BMW GS is the bike for everything.. better on road bike with amazing comfort on long distances and very good on travel enduro ..
No one talked about the DCT edge ATAS has over others which is purely magical ..my pick is Africa Twin..such a great machine with absolute reliability which none of the other brands can offer
Exactly, Africatwin is way better than rest of the bikes....it's🔥
Africa Twin all the way. Autocar didn't test it, but Overdrive did. Thank you, Overdrive.
ATAS for sure! But to be quite honnest all of the are a bit overpriced and BMW or HD are on top of it for different reasons but still… Africa Twin finally seems like the one worth spending. Only that electronics has to be corrected.
Cheers boyz
I've seen videos of the Africa Twin being ridden like a CRF450 dirt stunt bike. Nose balancing down hill, wheelies, powerslides and ramping through the air.
I have serious doubts the others can stand toe to toe with the Africa Twin on a true adventure offroad setting. It truly is a monster. A gorgeous and dead-on reliable one.
1% of people buying these bikes care about that...
Thank you for an honest, well-qualified shootout. I'll go with the ATAS because it's capable, simple, relatively inexpensive and, here in the California outback, reliability is a determiner for me!
The Quality, clarity and the colors of the whole video is just superior. Sure you guys must have changed something recently with your shooting or editing gadgets. Great video by the way🙌
So, few months back you left Bangalore for this video.
Loved it.
My love is Africa Twin 😍.
Great video! Africa twin for me!
Excellent honest review Nikhil thanks, Thankfully Overdrive has included the right kind of folks too for the review!
Honda Africa twin 🔥🔥best in segment, practical, reliable, good ergonomics
You guys did not did justice to the Africa Twin. The most underated ADV in India. You are bashing the electronics like a kid, an owner of the AT would get used to it, you should have asked some owners as well,
The Africa Twin the best bike to LIVE with. You get a hassel free automatic transmisson, andriod auto, apple car play, Very practical seat height considering the riders of india.
nice vid, own the Africa Twin and love it, but it's tough to choose with so many great ADV bikes.
Superb review of the top bikes in the world! Congrats guys!
For me BMW R1250GS is the top for doing everything with it.
No KTM? Well the others deserved a chance. The SAR would eat them up
We're really missing out on the KTM Super Adventure models 😭
Absolutely right. Hope that changes soon.
Lol! Lots of butthurt AT owners here didn't get their purchase vindicated! I'm nowhere near the time frame when I'm considering a huge liter bike for the type of riding I'm doing currently so I'm just conducting casual research! When it's time to consider going "two up" more often and to start logging cross country miles, I will dial my research up a notch! So far, I'm thinking the Tiger Explorer has unseated the GS as king of the ADV heavyweights! Triumph has completely rebuilt the Explorer from the ground up and is a remarkable machine. BMW, as of late, appear to be taking the KLR approach and not changing a damn thing. Some have even accused BMW of a lapse in quality control but don't tell the BMW cult disciples that! The AT looks perfect for cross country touring with light off-roading in the mix and of course there's the proven reliability and worldwide support is enough to make me consider one! IMHO, the Lan American is just Harley attempting to capture a part of the insanely popular and ever-growing ADV segment of the motorcycle industry! I hate everything about it and would purchase any of the other ADV bikes over that Harley!
The 1250's shaft is actually being replaced after they run a check. BMW has advised dealers to run a check first (which includes drilling a hole) and if the check fails, the shafts will be replaced under warranty. They have been replacing it for older 1200's for free , so make sure you ask all the right questions to your dealer. As to where the water is coming from, it could either be from river crossings or condensation on the inside. The new shaft is designed to drain the water minimizing chances of rusting.
Source- I own a 1250 GS 2021 model and recently did this during my 10K service
New 2024 Africa Twin has improved so much
1290 super adventure R ?
I think triumph 900 rally pro is a good choice
Great review, but one correction: The windscreen on the Africa twin Adventure Sport is 5 step adjustable.
And in 2020 they offered an electronic suspension. I have one, but it did come only in DCT fashion in adventure sports, that year
When shopping for a new bike, it came to only 2 choices. The Africa Twin and the Super Tenere. I chose the Super Tenere. 3 of my friends got AT’s and 2 got the GS’s. My bike and the AT’s has had zero issues. Both GS’s had issues and costly shaft drive repair. I’d never get a Harley, KTM or Ducati. My old chief engineer has had all the above bikes mentioned, except for the HD. Currently on GSA and he preaches to me, to not get rid of my Super Tenere ES. I had the Suzuki VStrom 1000 and would go back to it before getting these mentioned brands.
Agreed, if one wants to cut on the budget, Tenere is a no brainer
Need this kind of video for sub 5 lakh adventure tourers
Heard all the feedback but nothing comes close to the ATAS in terms of off road capability. The motorcycle is a living legend
Im confused as to what Africa Twin you tested, they do come with electronic adjustable shocks and an adjustable windshield.
Perhaps the manual trans doesn't there? My 2020 ATASes came with adjustable windshield and electronic suspension, in Canada. Love the suspension!!!!!
ATAS sold in India doesn't come with ES folks. Even the post 2020 models.
@@haasn46 Have you ride the electronic suspension? If so, how did it fair to other bikes in class? Okay, fair, great? Thanks , Bill :-)
@@haasn46 Thanks for the clarification, I just thought the reviewers didn't know what they were talking about since we get ES here in the US.
No ktm 1290 super adventure?
it's not complete without the KTM 1290 super adventure
Gs all day any day
Nice review than the recent adventure bike comparison in Autocar India
Thank you. I’m glad you liked our content.
8:25 Honda ATAS does come with electronic suspension, unfortunately not the one you brought to the test.
It's not available here in India. Honda should have provided it as an option.
@@ShivamPatel-lr4dg I was not aware of that. Guess it’s specific to India. I hope they will bring it there too, it’s amazing with the Showa EERA, although I’d prefer more stiffer springs as I am weighing a hefty 125 kg.
You are right, it does, but unfortunately it isn’t available on the India-spec variants.
@@rohit_paradkar SHOULD HAS BEEN AN OPTIONAL LIKE THE DCT
Why spend time testing these things off road when - in reality! - none of these will see much off-road time. This is WHY they are "surprisingly" good handlers on road and have comfy ergos for long distance adventures. Moreover, the German and Italian bikes here STILL do not have the reliability and a reasonable cost of ownership absolutely required for actual touring. If it were my money - and these were the only things available - I'd commit to the Honda, the only truly rational long-term relationship choice.
A BIKE YOU CANLIVE WITH PEACEFULLY
@ The Fat Biker , have shared it in my Whatsapp Group of Triumph Owners in Ahmedabad
i own the Trident 660
Thank you so much!
Africa twin all the way
As usual Rohit nails it. What a class video which you can watch again and again. Ducati looks like a bike from the future. A dream bike
breaks every 3 months, oil leaks, valve issues etc
Was waiting for this Rohit and the shootout is absolutely worth the wait. Just liked the nice n succinct storyline and messaging about all the bikes.
Let me say loud here: compare this one with Autocar India's similar shootout and that treatment feels childlike to me 😉
Thank you Pramil
Thank you, this video seem like Deja vu to me 🤣 I was like "have I watch this comparison before on another Indian channel? "
"Africa twin rides like a dirt bike" .. 😂😂😂 he's supposed to be an instructor !!??
If you want to do any bit of off-roading AT is the most suitable. Other bikes are fat and front heavy, simply not suitable for off-roading. Also reviewers failed to appreciate DCT, had this thing been featured in any of the fancy pants european bikes, reviewers would have gone ga-ga over it.
there nothing compares Africa Twin for its reliability , control specifically DCT one. do this comparison again in 100K KMs, add up all the costs !
Forgot the KING of them all! KTM 1290 Super Adventure R!!??
not sold in india
You keep talking about how much the PAS Weighs but it's lighter than the BMW! And has more power. This channel is a paid advertisement for "certain" bikes it seems..
Twin. Bullet proof.
This is the worst review ever. What are trying to convey? So which bike is the one to go for???
Where’s the KTM?
19:07 ....triumph's after sales service it sh*t....there's a lot of gossip around it that triumph's service experience is the worst and i know many people who have reconsidered there decision to purchase a tiger just for this reason
KTM 🤔
Keep it up OD you're content is just Fab!
Thank you 😊
The video is also made nicely. Not once felt like skipping or switching over to a different video. Weldone there
The PanAm should not even be sold. It is a ridiculously stupid concept.
Africa twin 🔥
They are great person not picking a winner, It's true you get to pick it 👊
Only if murtaza junaid would had ridden triumph 1200 ❤
Exotic written all over it 9:35
For me please all the time my chicken biryani -- Africa Twin!
Kim 1290??????
Test ridicolo, Multistrada con cerchi in lega😂
watch fortnine review of africa twin. you'll fall in love with it.
I pick himalyan At least I can take it offroading without worrying of breakage
Well…
Go for Africa twin
Had been waiting for this forever!
I hope you liked it. Please do consider sharing it.
Just a givi advertisement😅😅
This review is awsome. I currently own Street Glide Special and R1250R. Looking to add adventure bike and thinking between Honda and Ducati.
Excellent Gentleman 🙂
The Harley without spokes is 4-5k dollars cheaper than the Triumph, the base Honda is cheaper yet.
Was always waiting for something like this .:) Fabulous work... really enjoyed it !
Thank you. Pls do consider sharing it.
Africa twin is awesome
Africa Twin top speed clocks to 250...which is a big thing considering its just 100 hp...
Excited for Honda will do with it's upcoming supercharged ATAS. Personally, I vouch for the AT due to its reliability and servicing factor apart from the obvious sheer joy of simply looking at it.
Just from a layman's perspective. If multi v4 was considered here, Why not versys 1000
I love the Africa twin, but the electronics set up and chain drive worries me
You get used to the screen setup and button controls. Muscle memory after a few thousand km. Just changed my chain and sprockets at 20,000 km. About 2/3 worn out. Great bike! Three of us own them in my Canadian Rockies village. None of us would live without one now. Good luck in best travels :-)
@@billmcmeekin7909 great bike, i had a 2018 dct and i choose it against r1200 gs. The chain drive needs lubing - that I can manage with a scotlier system. But chain adjustment is a head ache in long journeys. Shaft drive is peace of mind. My 2018 bike i can turn off abs with a single press of a button and toggle through 7 levels traction of traction with another button on the fly. But in 2020 bike it becomes annoyingly complicated. Is it possible to toggle through traction control with a button, I heard some buttons we can set for our favourite controls
@@jibinraj6058 Not sure if you can attach abs to the favorite button, as I've never tried. Sorry.
Africa twin any day. 🔥
Africa Twin DCT, anytime and can't go wrong with it and super cheap after sales
Excellent video but having the empty tea cup at nowhere really annoying and irritating too.
Yamaha should launch their adv bike in india!!
Yes!
Superb video 🎉
I pick the GS, since I already own one and don’t want to entertain any doubts that might make me think I should invest the money I already don’t have into a bike I still wish too have.
Nice perspective! Thanks for an interesting and balanced review!👍
(PS. The Shift Cam in the 2019 and 2022 GS are the same.)
I chose the 2021 Ducati Multistrada V4S & can't say enough about how excellent it is, hats off to all the companies and everyone ride safe
No KTM...no party...
Africa Twin for me
Tiger for the win!! Great review and info. Thank you gentlemen
Adventure bikes in name only, any bike over 450 lbs is a street bike not a DS bike
im very sorry but you look so serious until you open the moutth :D:D:D:D:D:D:D epic
African twin only
When it comes to maintenance BMW is the easiest. Maybe harley since it has hydraulic valve adjustment
YOU GUYS WERE BIASED AGAINST AFRICA TWIN..... ITS THE BOSS ANY DAY ANY ROAD
Great video, I'd love to ride through India one day, beautiful country.
Awesome points! Thanks for the great video!
Paid for by BMW and Partly by TIger too ;-)
ATAS
ATAS
KTM Adventure 1290??????????
Was wondering about that too. That bike is a masterpiece until it breaks. Goes like crazy, pulls like a tractor, it’s IMO even a little better off-road than Africa Twin I dare say, and I say that completely unbiased because I own ATAS ES DCT MY22.
The only Adventure KTM sells in India as of now is the 390!
African twins is not comparison for this segment bikes
You brought out points that others have missed! Good job!
