  • The OVERDRIVE Adv shootout is back! This time we have the new 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 slugging it out with the BMW R 1250 GS, Harley Davidson Pan America 1250, Ducati Multistrada V4 S & Honda Africa Twin 1100 Adventure Sport. We rode across cities, highways, mountains and river beds to help you understand how these five motorcycles are so similar to each other on intent and yet so different on how they go about doing their business.
    The riders on this expedition were Nikhil Balakrishna of Big Rock Dirt Park, Vignesh Chandrasekaran, Areeb Sherwani, Christopher Chaves and Rohit Paradkar.

    Folks at Autocar dissed the Africa Twin out on basis of spec sheet comparison. Any half decent motorcyclist knows motorcycles are more than just spec sheets. The Africa Twin held its own infact bringing in features which none of the others have in this comparison !

      One thing these guys should've talked about is the everyday usability. The Africa Twin is hands down the easiest bike to ride in the city. The DCT version is so effortless in stop and go traffic. The heat management is absolutely stellar. 2 hours stuck in Bangalore traffic and there's barely any heat. And the best part is that it sips on fuel. On a full tank, cruising around 100 - 120 kmph gave me 26 kmpl. None of the other bikes come close.
      That being said all these bikes are the pinnacle of motorcycle engineering. Bikes which makes you want to dream.

    Lol! Lots of butthurt AT owners here didn't get their purchase vindicated! I'm nowhere near the time frame when I'm considering a huge liter bike for the type of riding I'm doing currently so I'm just conducting casual research! When it's time to consider going "two up" more often and to start logging cross country miles, I will dial my research up a notch! So far, I'm thinking the Tiger Explorer has unseated the GS as king of the ADV heavyweights! Triumph has completely rebuilt the Explorer from the ground up and is a remarkable machine. BMW, as of late, appear to be taking the KLR approach and not changing a damn thing. Some have even accused BMW of a lapse in quality control but don't tell the BMW cult disciples that! The AT looks perfect for cross country touring with light off-roading in the mix and of course there's the proven reliability and worldwide support is enough to make me consider one! IMHO, the Lan American is just Harley attempting to capture a part of the insanely popular and ever-growing ADV segment of the motorcycle industry! I hate everything about it and would purchase any of the other ADV bikes over that Harley!

  • @MotoRic
    @MotoRic Год назад +2

    The 1250's shaft is actually being replaced after they run a check. BMW has advised dealers to run a check first (which includes drilling a hole) and if the check fails, the shafts will be replaced under warranty. They have been replacing it for older 1200's for free , so make sure you ask all the right questions to your dealer. As to where the water is coming from, it could either be from river crossings or condensation on the inside. The new shaft is designed to drain the water minimizing chances of rusting.

    When shopping for a new bike, it came to only 2 choices. The Africa Twin and the Super Tenere. I chose the Super Tenere. 3 of my friends got AT’s and 2 got the GS’s. My bike and the AT’s has had zero issues. Both GS’s had issues and costly shaft drive repair. I’d never get a Harley, KTM or Ducati. My old chief engineer has had all the above bikes mentioned, except for the HD. Currently on GSA and he preaches to me, to not get rid of my Super Tenere ES. Why spend time testing these things off road when - in reality! - none of these will see much off-road time. This is WHY they are "surprisingly" good handlers on road and have comfy ergos for long distance adventures. Moreover, the German and Italian bikes here STILL do not have the reliability and a reasonable cost of ownership absolutely required for actual touring. If it were my money - and these were the only things available - I'd commit to the Honda, the only truly rational long-term relationship choice.

    Excellent video but having the empty tea cup at nowhere really annoying and irritating too.

    I pick the GS, since I already own one and don’t want to entertain any doubts that might make me think I should invest the money I already don’t have into a bike I still wish too have.

    Nice perspective! Thanks for an interesting and balanced review!👍
    (PS. The Shift Cam in the 2019 and 2022 GS are the same.)

      Was wondering about that too. That bike is a masterpiece until it breaks. Goes like crazy, pulls like a tractor, it’s IMO even a little better off-road than Africa Twin I dare say, and I say that completely unbiased because I own ATAS ES DCT MY22.
