I saw BB King interviewed on Good Morning America or one of those shows. The lady host interviewing asked him why it was that white guys couldn't play the blues as good as the old black guys. BB King set her straight and told her and the entire national audience how this white guy named Peter Green from England was one of the greatest of all time, and completely blew BB's mind, playing with more feeling than anyone he ever heard. Quite a statement from the great BB King. I almost couldn't believe what I was hearing, but it was Peter Green he was talking about, so I believed it.
I googled "bb king talking about peter green on tv" and there's lots of public comments BB made about Peter Green, but I couldn't find that specific "Good Morning America" segment. Bummer that nobody saved and uploaded it for us to view. It was an impressive comment. It made an impression on me when I saw it, but I was already a Peter Green fan, just as much as ever still.

This is pure magic, music how it should be played, from the soul. Peter Green was blessed in every way and paid a heavy price, who knows what the poor guy went through, he said "I used to let my guitar speak for me but I can't let it do that anymore, I can't let it break my heart again", a true legend and a gentleman.

Not only did Peter Green have a special 'touch' and ability as a musician, his voice was special too. ... My favourite electric blues guitarist from back then in the day and still think the same along the test of time.

I've read a lot of comments comparing this Fleetwood Mac to the Buckingham and Nicks era. I was fortunate to get to live during the entire span of this band's existence. I love every lineup in this band's history but I especially love this band and most especially this particular song. I listen to it a couple of times per month. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie are, in my humble opinion, the finest rhythm section in rock and roll and this blues era they played in is some of their finest and most soulful artistry. What they play here is just a solid bedrock for an epic blues. When I think of how young they were when they made music with Peter Green, and made this music with Peter Green, I wonder just how it must feel after creating this piece? Does any other musical experience they had even come close to what was laid down here and in this time of their youth, or was it just another gig of many? How fortunate for them to get to create things like this in their lifetime and for me to get to experience it. One of the things I sense when I listen to this is that Peter gets to just completely let go and the music is channeling through him into the guitar and then sonically out into the world and into the future and to us, now and for as long as man has the ability to broadcast this recording. I listen to this when times are really good, and when times are like they are now in this covid world and it never fails to sustain me on a primal level. Thanks to all that made it possible for this to be here.
I too was fortunate enough to have witnessed the various iterations of Fleetwood Mac and I am right there with you! It was just magical watching Pete channel the music, feeding the band and the audience. I can't recall the tune, but Christine (might still have been C. Perfect) was singing such a soulful blues tune ... it was one of the most memorable performances I've seen.

Yes, he is still playing but he is a shadow of his former self. Some of his recent gigs are all over RUclips. Not saying they are bad but nothing like his old performances.
I'd give John Mayall the title 'Father of English Blues', and yeah, I should have qualified that above statement with best blues guitarist for Green, not artist. Too broad of a brush. Of course, all this is just my opinion and nothing more. Mayall I've seen perform - just last year - and he's still performing at a very high level with a lot of talent around him, as usual.

Just finished playing this to a visiting friend who LOVES guitar. Never seen someone sit with their mouth wide open for so long. Made me play it twice before he went home to learn it. My parting words were, "Don't even TRY to make me listen to your version!"

The sound itself is relatively easy to reproduce. Fender twin or an AC30, dimed, drowned in spring/analogue reverb. LIGHT strings; 9's at most. Guitar irrelevant. Slow, slow, quick with the volume on the guitar to control the distortion. As for the rest: well best o' luck wit dat! :) Be born a hated minority in a nightmarish post apocalyptic shithole (post war Britain) and spend every day trying to be a decent human being. Despite it all. There's a reason the 'white' British bluesmen were so good. They knew what slavery was just as much as their black counterparts. In almost every case I can recall whenever they met musically they spoke the same language and always knew it.
I’ve studied a lot of guitarists especially blues guitarists for the last 20 years. Originally it was SRV that turned me on to the blues and he will always be that inspiration to me at a young age. Now I’m 32 and I’ve never felt so much emotion and tone that I connect with more than Peter Green. To me he just is the guitarist and artist I’ve been searching for in the blues for a long time. It’s a shame that he is no longer with us and I can never experience him or SRV Live.

The best bluesman ever. Saw him with The Bluesbreakers and the original Fleetwood Mac many times in small Clubs and Halls on the side of pubs and with the Splinter Group many years later. Black Magic Woman is one of my favourites and I gave it a try out at New Years' Eve Karaoke but to my horror, I had to sing to the Santana version. OK in its own way but not a patch on the original.

While Gary Moore was a good friend of Green's his tribute CD/concert in '95 never got "that sound/tone". This concert is before FM switched to Orange amps for a period. Then they went back to the most underrated concert amp of all time: The Fender Dual Showman! They kept the Orange reverb box. This tone is absolute perfection!!!
I was there that weekend in '68 but I don't remember "Worried Dream." The acts used to play Fri Sat nites and Sun afternoons. He must have played it on another day. I would have gone wild! I was listening everyday to BB's version on the album "Blues on Top of Blue's." Haven't seen that one in quite a long while!
It's the May Two Four weekend here in Canada, Friday night just getting under way. Lots of beer, and a few bowls, Winnipeg vs Las Vegas in the NHL Conference Finals, and the best of Peter Green blasting down the stereo. God Bless Queen Victoria.........
Sometimes God gives us a gift in the form of a lost soul. Someone who is more than talented…..just pure genius. It’s like He says, “here, I give you this man for just a little while, and then I will take him back. He will do things that you cannot comprehend how it can be humanly done. But he will touch your heart and shake your soul, and you will know that I love you because of this gift.” The Great Ones never stay too long. Even though Peter lived to old age, his Gift was gone when was still a young man……..for all that I thank God we had him….if only for a little while.

RIP Peter Green. Love all Fleetwood Mac but the blues years are my favorite.
Mac's drum work, mostly the snare work is so overlooked on this.
Their timing and chemistry is phenomenal.
Lets not forget the great playing of Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer that made Peter Green's guitar playing sounds so rich & multi layered!

Peter Green took this B B king song, and turned it on its head. The original short song is great, but this version is brilliant. No wonder King held Green in awe.
the more i listen to the ole blues the more Led Zeppelin sound less innovative than i thought. Still they gave a great shape to these tunes.

The sound itself is relatively easy to reproduce. Fender twin or an AC30, dimed, drowned in spring/analogue reverb. LIGHT strings; 9's at most. Guitar irrelevant. Slow, slow, quick with the volume on the guitar to control the distortion. As for the rest: well best o' luck wit dat! :) Be born a hated minority in a nightmarish post apocalyptic shithole (post war Britain) and spend every day trying to be a decent human being. Despite it all. There's a reason the 'white' British bluesmen were so good. They knew what slavery was just as much as their black counterparts. In almost every case I can recall whenever they met musically they spoke the same language and always knew it.
I’ve studied a lot of guitarists especially blues guitarists for the last 20 years. Originally it was SRV that turned me on to the blues and he will always be that inspiration to me at a young age. Now I’m 32 and I’ve never felt so much emotion and tone that I connect with more than Peter Green. To me he just is the guitarist and artist I’ve been searching for in the blues for a long time. It’s a shame that he is no longer with us and I can never experience him or SRV Live.

The best bluesman ever. Saw him with The Bluesbreakers and the original Fleetwood Mac many times in small Clubs and Halls on the side of pubs and with the Splinter Group many years later. Black Magic Woman is one of my favourites and I gave it a try out at New Years' Eve Karaoke but to my horror, I had to sing to the Santana version. OK in its own way but not a patch on the original.

While Gary Moore was a good friend of Green's his tribute CD/concert in '95 never got "that sound/tone". This concert is before FM switched to Orange amps for a period. Then they went back to the most underrated concert amp of all time: The Fender Dual Showman! They kept the Orange reverb box. This tone is absolute perfection!!!

I was there that weekend in '68 but I don't remember "Worried Dream." The acts used to play Fri Sat nites and Sun afternoons. He must have played it on another day. I would have gone wild! I was listening everyday to BB's version on the album "Blues on Top of Blue's." Haven't seen that one in quite a long while!
Green is, and always will be, the "Tone King". Kim Simmonds came close, but Green is above ALL the blues players of the period.

It’s like He says, “here, I give you this man for just a little while, and then I will take him back. He will do things that you cannot comprehend how it can be humanly done.
