Guys please try Laika: Aged through Blood. It's a bullet time, biking based shooter that has some insane art, amazing melancholic music and a touching story It's an indie game and could be done in a few hours. Please don't miss it and more people need to hear about the game.
Absolutely agree! Such good atmosphere and fun dialogue. I just wish they titled the game differently, personally - I wonder if it would have helped it.
This game is hella damn good! Though I do sadly agree that not all people may have the tolerance to handle it through & through (its whole gameplay mechanics). Iron Pineapple did a good review of this game with the same sentiment as well.
With regards to Starfield, you'll often hear people say "It's a Bethesda game!" toned as both an excuse and as an explanation for the weird design choices and the game's overall presentation. I don't think that such a statement should absolve the developers for anything. The game was only 75% completed. I make that statement after having played it a considerable amount but the game needed flesh out the universe FAR more. It's a mile-wide, inch-deep kind of approach. There's generic space pirates, generic space marines, generic space cowboys, and generic space bandits, and generic space explorers. The "substance" of all of their work is mostly participated in through a kiosk. It's a boring and repetitive gameplay loop that I believe they implemented in order to not distract the player from the overarching goal of completing the game and entering it's New Game Plus system. Those factions needed to be much bigger, in my opinion. Constellation itself needed to be much bigger as well. The ship builder was the most robust part of it and nothing felt worse than building an amazing ship and then having nothing but repetitive and boring tasks to use it for.
@@themadakh3229you can't have been playing all the fantastic games then, there's no other explanation I can think of. Of course there's bad games, every year will have them, but there's been a metric tonne of great games this year. I play a lot of games and it's been incredibly difficult to keep up with all the worthwhile games that have been released.
Bg3 is a generational game that will be talked about for years for me. I put it with chrono trigger, kotor, and witcher 3 in terms of how a game can change how certain types of role-playing will be done in the future. It's amazing an one of the best games ever made.
I see that the best was saved for last. Barotrauma is an absolute gem of a game, that never fails to entertain me. With friends it is one of the most hilarious and fun videogame experiences.
Falcon I think you like Starfield more than some because you enjoy the gameplay and visual aspects of a game more than the lore, storyline and characters so you're having a much better time playing the game comparing to its haters (like myself). 🙂
"It's a besthesda game..." should not be allowed to be used for an excuse. It should be held to high standards of other games, and not given a pass on It's shortcomings because it's developers are subpar.
So weird question? I’ve heard nothing but good things about Dave the diver and from gameplay to me personally it looks absolutely horrible?? My question is is it something that just looks bad but is actually incredible? Also do you think I would like it if I hate puzzle games, anime, and games without voice acting? Not about to waste my money just because online said it’s amazing I’ve made that mistake way too many times
No one will probably see this, but as far as I know and have researched, cocoon is NOT made by Playdead, the developers of inside and Limbo, but is developed by a new studio and published by Annapurna Interactive, the same company who’s published Outer Wilds, Stray, What remains of Edith Finch, 12 minutes etc. This isn’t really important but I just thought I should put this out there.
I love that you put Hogwart's Legacy on your list. Every other site pretends that game didn't even release and it was clearly one of the best games this year. Good for you guys.
Shame that no room at the Inn for Lords of the Fallen....i'm only 30 hours in and its excellent...great homage to FromSoft games like Dark Souls. Throw in a few unique mechanics like the umbral realm and a few patches later from a dedicated dev team who add new quests, fixes, spells etc.....truly epic game.
I feel like while Starfield should be on this list of best games of 2023, it is ranked far too high on our list. Mid-20s seems about right for it. Using the older base engine is a major detractor. The problems from all the other Bethesda games just get copied into the new one. with the expectation that the mods will fix the issues. It is lazy on their part.
Something that's copied and pasted shouldn't be on ANY best of lists. It's insulting to game devs that actually worked hard to bring original games to people. Bethesda are a cancer on the gaming world.
A nice mention for Dead Island 2 is that the gore system is one of a kind. Not sure if the system they use is only within their engine but its just really great.
I hope it is not based on order, because it takes hell of a delusion to put Starfield at 7th and RE4 Remake to 30th. Nevertheless, Starfield should not make it into top 30 with overwhelmingly negative reviews, or at least be the 30th.
@@jesusblanco7657 i dont think he was mad...just befuddled. Everyone has their own opinion sure...but generally more professional review outfits can be considered to have a more reasoned and detailed "objective" look at gaming. If the top 2 was Redfall and Gollum then would we not start to question their ability to judge a good game from a bad game? Or does that not exist anymore because its all everyones own subjective opinion?
Dave the Diver was one of the few single player games in years i actually stayed up late playing. Despite having all the characteristics of grindy games I don't like yet because of it's charm and the way it's broken up and each activity supports others. The timing of how it introduces everything is just excellent. The boss fights were way too easy, stupid easy but other than that if you want a change of pace i'd recommend Dave the Diver even if you generally are turned off by singleplayer games.
In regards to Starfield, idk how people can just ignore the game lacks computer hacking, real NPC inventories, scrapping, weapon components, real maps, clothing like glasses, you can’t loot a single desk in the game, there’s no in game radio, meaningful reasons for posts(it’s cheaper to just buy resources from vendors than manufacture them yourself), no way to explore, meaningful dialogue (all npc encounters are a pass fail, it literally doesn’t matter what you do to get there), meaningful leveling progression (just unlocking things you could do by default in previous games doesn’t feel progressive, it feels hindering) It's a bad game that has less than what we've previously seen in Bethesda games. It feels cheap and lifeless, and the NPC's feel like they're just computer prompts being activated when you talk to them
Baldur's Gate 3 ain't a AAA game. Its a previously indie studio upscaling and trying to make a AAA game. If BG3 failed, Larian would've barely survived. BG3 is also such a massive effort because it was in early access for years prior to release. Keep in mind their previous release DOS, which eventually went on to become a bit hit years into release, was initially crowd funded.
Robocop was ... really boring, the skills were boring, the progression felt thrown-in... definitely not worthy of a top of anything list. They focused way too much on the life-like faces of the original actors and not enough on the fact that the game looked like crap so it didn't matter anyway.
Starfield isn't the "unmitigated disaster" or whatever you seem to think people are saying it is; it's just fucking boring. It's bland, it doesn't move anything forward, it's basic. It does absolutely nothing that other games don't, and every single interesting thing it does has been done a thousand times before in more interesting ways. I don't think you can judge a game completely outside of the time it launches in, like you seem to be trying to do. If this had launched before Skyrim, sure, it would have probably been considered a great game. But this is coming up on 15 years after Skyrim, and Skyrim puts Starfield to shame in literally everything except maybe graphics/tech, and then only barely. Bethesda can't wait 15 years and come out with this steaming pile of mediocrity and expect people to be happy with it, except for when it ends up at number 7 (FUCKING SEVEN) out of 30 for 2023 games on lists like this. That's completely insane.
Starfield deserves the hate. Land on plant: random number generation of only 1 to 5. That's the extent of the game. There's only a tiny, tiny, handful of missions outside of their RNG missions. Base building serves zero purpose other than making chests to hoard just enough items to making better equipment. Which is very restrictive in capacity. Game sucks. Huge Bethesda fan, that completely dodged fo 76, bc I have a brain. But this one got me. 2/10 bethesda game.
Starfield and Diablo 4, while having merits in fundamental areas in gameplay and art, both deserve the pushback, and I disagree that deciding not to support such products and bad business practices amounts to nothing. The problem is that there's a lot of people that think exactly the way you appear to do so, Falcon. I love this channel, but this is a part I genuinely disagree with. Also, as an Alan Wake fan and a longtime Remedy fan, Alan Wake II absolutely disappointed me with how little actual gameplay it offers. Horrible pacing. Oh, and let's not forget... Sweet Baby Inc.
Hearing them say what amounts to 'just play the games even though you don't agree with the companies' just makes me wish Totalbiscuit was still around. Video game youtube desperately needs someone as pro-consumer as John was.
15:10 "If you can get past all the crap" - The simple fact that you had to utter that phrase means Diablo 4 was NOT a good game. Rating any game based exclusively on the things you like about it is intellectually dishonest at best. 17:20 Why does it feel like you're going out of your way to defend a game which is accurately described as 'mostly empty space'? It honestly looks like your trying to justify terrible game companies doing terrible game company things... and giving some subtle stink eye at the gaming community while doing it. Game companies have more money than god... they don't need you to defend them.
Sad to see D4 and Starfield on here but not Rogue Trader. D4 wasn't up to par with free games developed 5 years ago, and Starfield while it did have some gems in there, for the most part was empty, lifeless and joyless. Phantom Liberty for me at least was amazing start to finish, Starfield was forgotten until this video.
“Starting off with number 30 it’s resident Evil 4! How else would we start this thing off?” How about not with a good game followed by weaker games until Dave the diver? This list was kinda dog man. Did you double check the list?

If Hogwarts Blood Libel makes it on there next to the Diablo 4 and Starfield shitshow, there's absolutely room for Talos 2. And so many better games, for that matter. @@JupiterxBlues
@jrod1577 It's bloody incredible not decent. Best writing I've ever seen in a game.
I disagree with the order of this list from the very start.... The VERY start
Guys please try Laika: Aged through Blood. It's a bullet time, biking based shooter that has some insane art, amazing melancholic music and a touching story
It's an indie game and could be done in a few hours.
Side quests really sucked and to repetitive. Apart from that all the bosses and combat was quite fun once you got used to it
thanks to you I started playing it today 👍
Starfield...?
Hi-Fi Rush is my GOTY 2023, closely followed by RE4 Remake.
Hogwarts Legacy would've been great if they'd stuck to the castle.
That's like making a cake with no flour: I mean, they could have... But that's dumb as hell.
Showing bomb rush cyberfunk some love, much respect
Hearing how Falcon defends himself when talking about Harry Potter is just sad.
My PC coughing smoke as I watch this video🥲
The best thing about Hogwarts is that you don't need to know a single thing about Harry Potter to enjoy it. It was very well done indeed.
This year was so huge they needed a list of 30!
Yh i agree, more worse games that good. Like crew motorfest was awful. Littered with micro transactions that lock you out of parts of the game
Talk bout sentimental😂
@@themadakh3229you can't have been playing all the fantastic games then, there's no other explanation I can think of. Of course there's bad games, every year will have them, but there's been a metric tonne of great games this year. I play a lot of games and it's been incredibly difficult to keep up with all the worthwhile games that have been released.

90% of the list is pure garbage.
But the Sub Nimbers must give you confidence...at least there are alot of people that like 90% garbage i guess.
Bg3 is a generational game that will be talked about for years for me. I put it with chrono trigger, kotor, and witcher 3 in terms of how a game can change how certain types of role-playing will be done in the future. It's amazing an one of the best games ever made.
The best game i played in 2023 is lords of the fallen
Starfield and Diablo 4 in the top 10?? And where's Phantom Liberty? Hello? This is utter trash
Lies of P was amazing
Hell yes, Hogwarts is getting love from media.
Indie game always get over rated
lol another question!?
I love Alan wake 1
Absolutely hated everything about control
lol does anyone think I would like this?
@@Bust_A_Nut_bar thank you! I was going to say it looked horrible.. like something you’d play on Facebook
💯
I love that you put Hogwart's Legacy on your list. Every other site pretends that game didn't even release and it was clearly one of the best games this year. Good for you guys.
Shame that no room at the Inn for Lords of the Fallen....i'm only 30 hours in and its excellent...great homage to FromSoft games like Dark Souls. Throw in a few unique mechanics like the umbral realm and a few patches later from a dedicated dev team who add new quests, fixes, spells etc.....truly epic game.
I'm sorry but this game is trash.
LotF is a garbage hack n slash
Trash game , objectively
huh, thats old game
Alan Wake 2 need a physical release.😥
Oo er 😲
I hope it is not based on order, because it takes hell of a delusion to put Starfield at 7th and RE4 Remake to 30th. Nevertheless, Starfield should not make it into top 30 with overwhelmingly negative reviews, or at least be the 30th.
Opinions are like a55holes, cheers for the confirmation
It’s a list, not a ranking, don’t overthink it. Just one birds opinion on games he liked in 2023
People still get mad over another persons opinion on video games ?
@@jesusblanco7657 i dont think he was mad...just befuddled. Everyone has their own opinion sure...but generally more professional review outfits can be considered to have a more reasoned and detailed "objective" look at gaming. If the top 2 was Redfall and Gollum then would we not start to question their ability to judge a good game from a bad game? Or does that not exist anymore because its all everyones own subjective opinion?
Naaah man, RE4 should be in top 5
Dave the Diver was one of the few single player games in years i actually stayed up late playing. Despite having all the characteristics of grindy games I don't like yet because of it's charm and the way it's broken up and each activity supports others. The timing of how it introduces everything is just excellent. The boss fights were way too easy, stupid easy but other than that if you want a change of pace i'd recommend Dave the Diver even if you generally are turned off by singleplayer games.
I used to dislike anything Avatar as well until I watched it on mush... changed my perspective. Turned me Na'vi like Jake Sue-lee
Shout out to Mush
In regards to Starfield, idk how people can just ignore the game lacks computer hacking, real NPC inventories, scrapping, weapon components, real maps, clothing like glasses, you can’t loot a single desk in the game, there’s no in game radio, meaningful reasons for posts(it’s cheaper to just buy resources from vendors than manufacture them yourself), no way to explore, meaningful dialogue (all npc encounters are a pass fail, it literally doesn’t matter what you do to get there), meaningful leveling progression (just unlocking things you could do by default in previous games doesn’t feel progressive, it feels hindering)
It's a bad game that has less than what we've previously seen in Bethesda games.
Dave the diver and Dredge being included is great
Atomic heart might not be the best game of 2023, but it was good
better then 70% of games from this list.
Alan Wake 2 was my GOTY as well!
Same. I'm yet to play BG3, but I lean more toward games like AW2.
Wow! I had no idea about sweet baby inc. It makes sense though.

Wrong wrong wrong. What a dumb comment.
“Starting off with number 30 it’s resident Evil 4! How else would we start this thing off?”

Everything about Starfield is outdated and poorly executed. I TRIED to like it, I forced myself to play over 100 hours and at no point did it ever redeem itself. I would rather play any of the games it's derivative of than waste another minute of my time on Starfield, and defending it diminishes the value I place on your opinion of games and the likelihood that I will watch anything on this channel, I won't even finish this video because of that.
How is Jagged Alliance 3 not on this list? It is an absolute treasure! Just as good at following on it's predecessor as Baldur's Gate 3.

Weird that they take games like Starfield - not bad but bland - and Avatar - oh look, yet ANOTHER Ubisoft-sandbox - over Aliens Dark Descent.
