I think being late to the party can have its advantages these days because many games have had numerous QoL improvements made to them. A good example of this is The Witcher 3, which had numerous improvements made since its initial release.
im still on my ps3 and playing retro games on other devices and im happy im not caught up in current or next gen fads, ie dlc mxts services subscriptions fortnite minecraft cod destiny, people dont realise how stressful it can be.. gaming isnt supposed to be stressful.... modern AAA games now are massive epics and huge undertakings if you want to devote the neccessary and appropriate time to these big games, lore etc.... modern games are also unfinished unpolished and expensive.... not sony, this is aimed at the usual publishers... not to mention the advent and introduction of pro consoles.... you will enjoy gaming more when you realise its all about the gameplay and not about stressing about in game purchasing or not having enough credits to progress etc etc

This episode topic hits close to home because I have basically missed out on the entire 2 decades of gaming inbetween the N64 and getting a PS4 during the pandemic. Until 2020 I hadn’t played any modern video games so basically everything was a game I missed out on. When I tell this to people they can’t believe it at first. So my modern gaming agenda is catching up on everything I missed out on and PSPlus is a godsend for that. Speaking of a game I missed out on at release that I am literally going to play the second I finish this podcast episode (w/ my coffee fyi) is Dragons Dogma. I’ve heard so many great things especially once it’s upcoming sequel was announced.
It's only because of Access that I picked up Yakuza and now it's one of my favorite series. I've had literally hundreds of hours of great fun with those games so thank you very much. 😊
Exactly the same for me. Rosie is infectious with her excitement! I had to give them a try. Ended up beating all 7 and bought Judgement and Lost Judgement, going to those next after I’m done being Rob (playing Final Fantasy).
I had the most surreal experience with BloodBorne. I had no knowledge of Souls games, and the day before it launched, a coworker was gushing to me about their excitement for Bloodbornes release. Their excitement was infectious, and so I went to my local GameStop and grabbed a copy the next day (launch day, and, coincidentally-my day off). I could NOT stop playing it. I spent the entire playing it, unknowingly skipping the Cleric Beast, and eventually beating Father Gascoine after what felt like 100 tries with my threaded cane. It went on like a fever dream until I eventually beat the game, missing nearly every optional boss, missed practically every side-quest and NPC, and only beat Gehrman with my poor build out of sheer willpower. And that was it, I thought. I set my controller down and walked away, VERY satisfied. In the two months of free time it took me to beat the game this way, I never once looked online for answers or help… it felt too personal of an experience for all that. Only when a friend mentioned fighting Amygdala(I’d never heard of her) did I peek. And that’s when the BloodBorne world truly opened up for me. The builds, the boss strategies, the best weapons, the best farms, the glory, and all. That, in turn, dove me straight into every Souls game(in order, of course. It’s only proper). And the last several years of my life have been infinitely better for it all. Thank you, Kyle, ex-coworker-of-legend, you broadened my horizons
Being a classically ignorant American I had to look up the definition of supply teacher. Turns out my initial assumption (substitute teacher in the US) was correct, so I feel 5% less ignorant! Cheers!😜
@atblaa To be quite honest I don't know why they're called supply teachers. If I had to guess, I'd say its because they're a supply of teachers that don't have a full time teaching career. They're supplied to schools that are in need of a teacher just because one is ill or other means. I only had one consistent supply teacher, most I only saw like once really.
I've got a real old one that I missed out on on account that I wasn't even born yet; Wild Arms. Picked up the original via PS Plus and was super impressed by how it compared to other games of the time. The other was probably Symphony of the Night, which came out a few months before I was born but didn't pick up until the PS3 days. I did pick up Bloodstained shortly after its release, though, so I feel I've atoned in this instance.

Technically an MG rather than MGS game, but the first game I played was Metal Gear on the NES - not a bad game but very unforgiving. The best part about it was poring over the maps and manual though, exploring the lore and locations that I'd not even reached yet.
A classic game that I was late to the party for is the original Doom. I didn't play it until much later, but I really enjoyed myself. I've since played all of the other games in the series.

There is a lot of content but ask yourself, is grinding the same thing I do every day every week, every reset, ooorrr you could be playing any of the incredible games that came out this year and have fun, tears of the kingdom, BG3, hopefully Starfield delivers too. The game/series I was late for is Mortal Kombat. Never touched a fighting game my whole life but something about the MK1 trailers had me interested. So I downloaded MK11 from PS Plus and have been grinding it nonstop for about a month now. Just pre ordered MK1, can’t wait!!
This is insanely prescient for me because this week I just discovered Sleeping Dogs and it’s amazing!
