A quick thing to mention here, a good boss would use that conversation to talk about the policies. Those policies matter, you are a representative of that company. If you drive around in a terrible car and live in horrible hotels, what would the customers think? That the company is either poor and their product is shit, or that they have terrible work conditions and thus a high turnover rate(which often also means lower quality products). The company has those regulations to give you the standard that the company wants to represent themselves as. You can quite often go over budget if it means sealing a high value deal. Don't save the company money on policies unless it's a mom and pop store, they already earn enough from you working for them, the least they can do is make you appear representable
I had an old employer want to doc my paycheck for 4 weeks to recoup the "extra" charge from a $3.99 discontinued knitted hat I bought as part of my winter gear. Nevermind the fact that my winter coveralls cost $118... That extra $3.99 is going to break the company!!! 🤣 It took me over a week for them to just finally "okay" the purchase!
For the Bad Boss Story, I don't understand how upper management doesn't realize High Turnover isn't because people are just quitting their jobs, their quitting their terrible managers.
Where I work in retail, managers have each others backs unless the company is after one of them. It's an 'us and them' mentality and theyd rather lose good people than go through the hassle of hiring management 🙄
I can see why because she is a woman. Am I the only one who can see that woman is a walking red flag. 3 kids, a dumb dude who went to prison, divorced from a what? a shitty man that she picked because he was probably good in the sack and that was all he could do. I can't feel sorry for these women, I just can't, not when there are plenty of other single men out there that can't even get a date or talk to a woman without being used for free food, free gifts, free vacation, or worse they are being shamed for how they look. It kind of shows two examples of the government assistance worker given the first one couldn’t give a flip about OP’s situation with the kids. Good to see some actually do want to help rather than just sit around an act like they have some power because they work in the government.
There are a lot of people who care, but the system they have to use is designed to be putative. Having to enforce purposefully shaming and degrading conditions on people you want to help breaks the people who want to help, and they become very cynical and jaded pretty fast. My sister worked for Maine Care support for like 5 years (would still be doing it now except she's in full renal failure and spends like 15hrs a week in dialysis now). She liked the job but it took its toll on her mind.
In my experience, these two types of people exist whether in government or private enterprise. Some are just punching a clock and collecting a paycheck while others actually want to help.
I’m so tired of hearing people talk about how so many people are “living off the system” when every single person I know who has received benefits had to fight like hell for it. And still got screwed over. My wife didn’t get maternity leave because she worked as a substitute teacher. Couldn’t get unemployment back pay. I once missed 10 working days after a surgery and temporary disability sent me $134… ten days. 8 hours. $21 an hour equals $134? I also have several friends who relied on benefits. The poor lady who was told she had to show up child free on less than 24 hours notice when she told them she’s a single mother with nobody to watch them is beyond ridiculous.

I was unemployed for a short time, I could only claim for £281 A MONTH. My mother recently lost her job and she can't claim a penny because my dad is still working. It's disgusting.
Unfortunately its because of how many people are living off the system (that shouldn't be) that its so hard for people that genuinely need it. My aunt gets 2k from disability for a disability she doesn't have. She claims to have migraines but I can't remember the last time she's had a migraine. I remember several years ago when she had to recertify her disability she was freaking out because she couldn't find a doc that was willing to sign off on her disability as they all knew the 2 migraines she was getting a year wasn't enough for it to be considered. She finally found a sketchy doc that agreed to and he has since lost his license due to inappropriate behavior with nurses and patients!

It's only this one that has almost zero care for the most vulnerable people in it. When my late husband's sister had to go on assistance after her divorce from her abusive husband & was mad at us because my late husband wouldn't give her a bunch of money again without speaking to me as he did a couple of times before (I wanted to go over her finances with her, help her make a budget & a plan to get her out of the hole she was in so she wouldn't keep demanding money from us & she'd be okay herself), I saw how bad things were if you needed assistance. Sadly, we even live in a very progressive state with help that's better than most so idk how anyone does it in other states. Imo it makes way more sense to me to let people claim reasonable bills related to survival (food, lodging & career expenses) against their income to qualify for assistance & to allow a small grace period where we still give them all the assistance they qualified for before their income increased so they can actually crawl out of needing it altogether. I'd even not be opposed to either giving them a small lump sum for debt relief or a year of small payments, or direct payments to debtors on their behalf & to pay for them to take a debt relief/financial planning course so they'd have the opportunity to finally get to a place where they'll not be living on the edge & they'll, ideally, never need assistance again. Imo spending a bit more upfront to make someone self-sufficient is a reasonable way to solve this issue permanently & thus would actually save money in the long run. What most people don't realize is that it's actually way more expensive to be poor than it is to be comfortable or rich in the US. I get way more favorable terms than my late husband's sister does at almost every place I do business. My phone bill is cheaper since I don't need to finance our phones & my credit score & payment history makes me a more desirable customer for Verizon so a new phone is offered to me at a steep discount every 2 years whereas she has to finance the whole amount for her family's phones & pay a deposit to start with. I pay my car insurance a year at a time so, even for full coverage on my 5 year old luxury SUV, I pay less overall for the year than she pays for her 15 year old basic sedan as she has to pay monthly & she has a worse credit score than I do. I pay almost $400 less a year for full coverage compared to her paying only for liability insurance on her car costs her more. I fill my propane tank in the early summer when the price is at the best it'll be for the year here. She's still catching up from having to have them come put in the minimum they'll put in at once several times that previous winter, when the price per gallon is at it's highest. My bank & credit card companies give me very favorable interest & perks. She gets none of that & has to pay them if her account balance goes below $100. My house was purchased in cash back in 2009 when housing prices were at their lowest in the last 2 decades where I live. I have no mortgage. She had to rent a place as she couldn't afford to buy. Rent here for a much smaller living space is higher than my mortgage payments would have been, had I needed to have one. My homeowners insurance & taxes are the only things I pay to live in my 5 bed, 2.5 bath, 2 story house over a basement with 3 car detached garage with a 6 foot wide storage shed attached to the garage that runs the whole length on the back of it on 3 city lots on the water. Those bills for my house come to about $625 a month. She pays $1,800 a month in rent & will have no equity for her troubles at the end. My groceries are even cheaper because I can buy in bulk, order sustainable meat as a whole cow, pig or order chickens in advance from a nearby organic farm & send it to the butcher myself to store it in my freezer to avoid paying grocery store meat prices or I can wait for sales to buy most of my food as I've purchased in bulk. She has to purchase as needed, no matter the price at the time & doesn't have much freezer space so stocking up isn't a thing she can do. I can afford to pay more than she can for everything but in almost every circumstance, it's her who is charged more for basic services. Reagan tried to sell everyone on trickle down economics but he & the people who paid for our politicians always meant for as much money as possible to trickle up to make rich people richer. Like I said, I'm sorry.
My ex boss would. Last time I tried to call in I just finally said I'd come in then called hr later. He just wouldn't take no for an answer. I'd almost had to go to the hospital that night so didn't get any sleep. Finally was able to get to sleep before I was supposed to get up.
ESPECIALLY in Food Service! Even if they're too horrible to care about the employee's problem, they should at least realize that if so many customers got sick at their restaurant it could lead to some catastrophically bad publicity! Story number one 😂 When I had back surgery as a teenager, my recovery was difficult. Whenever the nurse would roll me over onto my right side, I would 🤮 But I had to be constantly rotated to avoid sores, so she would roll me to my left, then onto my back, then the left again. But one night, I got a new nurse. A real KAREN. She went to roll me over onto my right side. I told her, “You can’t roll me onto that side. I’ll throw up.” She got snotty and said, “That’s ridiculous!” Then she rolled me onto my right side, directly towards her. It took two seconds before the neon green projectile vomit covered her smock. Man, she was pissed! 😂 Don’t say I didn’t warn you, Karen!
That’s actually really interesting. Do you have a history of acid reflux? Your esophagus connects to your stomach on your right side, so if your lower esophageal sphincter isn’t working properly and is just open, then all that was in your stomach would just come right back up your esophagus.

Well, chicken in the US is deliberately contaminated with chlorine, making it unfit for human consumption. I would expect it's a factor in a large proportion of cases of food-poisoning.
@@MizuMing It's not exactly an honest presentation of the issue. Yes, the US uses disinfectants on chicken, at concentrations and amounts that are perfectly safe for later human consumption[1]. The issue some nations have with it is that it is used as a substitute for proper farming practices so that the chicken which misses the disinfecting wash is more likely to contain pathogens. [1] You'll get far more of a dose going for a swim in a typical pool.

I wasn't really conscious of it, but when you're sick it just comes out. I developed a deep respect for sys admins, when at my company once by accident I got assigned the phone number of one of our sys admins. Someone must 've mixed up two digits in a registry, and the calls got rerouted to my phone. The clients were vile. Within the 15 mins or so that it took for me to find time between calls to report the phone mixup, and someone to find and fix the mistake, I'd been insulted, yelled at, hung up on and threatened by several callers. The most infuriating part was - it was obvious they were angry about problems of their own making, but I had to stay professional and play nice. Those few calls got me so angry, I wanted to strangle someone lol. I wouldn't be able to handle a day of this, much less have a career where this is daily business.
Story 3: anyone who’s never had to reach for public assistance has no idea how common this is 🙄 there are MANY barriers to getting the help we all pay taxes for, and one of the biggest is prejudice from public workers.
Several years ago, while employed full time as a taxi driver, and still reduced to living in a converted van parked at a friend's house, I applied to Brunswick County Social Services for food stamps. The woman who took my application looked me in the face and said "You're a white male with no children, you can't have food stamps." I was pissed enough to ask her how many out of wedlock babies I needed to make a meatloaf.
I would say, blame the people who live off of those same goods and services when they do not need too. I know multiple families, single people, and just out right bums who lie - cheat - and bribe their way into getting all benefits from the workplace and government. One person I saw even went so far as to have a doctor friend of theirs hook them up with fake documentation at aocal clinic. Would go in, sit in the waiting room, get called in, chat with their friends in the furthest room in the back, and then leave knowing they will get another several grand for the next few months to live off of. There are scum and slime who clog up the system that wants to do good for the people. So it is no surprise many go through absolute extremes to weed out the bad ones. Cause you can't do it before hand.
Same story here. Dated a girl who was divorced from her ex who was paying child support. One day we're notified that he wants to pay less child support since he see's his son more often in the past several months, so should have to pay less. So I helped my gf add up all the days which was easy since she had made her son an Instagram profile and uploaded daily. Turns out he was actually spending less time with his son in recent months, so child support went up lol
Story 1: Reminds me of time I called out. I really wasn't feeling good, consistently throwing up and my manager, threatened that I would be written up if I didn't come in. So I did. Halfway through my shift, I started vomiting on the floor and made it to the trash can and vomited 7-8 more times throughout the rest of my shift... She refused to send me home because "we need you..."
This makes me thankful that the fast food place I used to work had a pretty strict policy (company-wide, might I add) that if you had *any* signs of a stomach problem you were not allowed to work. Anyway, I'm sorry that your boss made you work when you were sick. It should be illegal to make people in any food service work when they have stomach issues, especially since that could potentially contaminate the food going out to customers, let alone it being dangerous to the person who is sick.
@@Artretha It should be illegal to force any sick person in any industry to come into work. it's the most obvious in food service industries, but it's bad everywhere. Even if you're just an office drone, you being sick will make other people sick.
That last story is one of many on this channel in which OP is careful of their employer’s travel expense allowances, something out of the ordinary happens and OP gets chewed out for some minor violation, and OP responds by maxing out the expense allowance! I just love it!!
Story 1: If OP had food poisoning, why would that have meant they should have come in? Food poisoning is so dangerous and is very often transmittable, you should NEVER go into a food establishment if you’re vomiting or have diarrhea.
As someone who occasionally travels who businesses, that last story is absolutely hilarious. I always use the max per diem and get the max for anything the company will pay for - after all, it doesn’t usually come directly out of their pocket because they pass the cost on to the client. Nobody ever give you bonus points for “saving the company money”.
My thoughts exactly. Travel allowances are designed to keep employees happy. Skimping, getting mad when they don't let you break policy, and then no longer skimping isn't malicious compliance. Dude is going to angry quit and cost the company 20x more replacing him than if he would travel in comfort and be happy - and he will have cause all of the strain by himself.
Mad respect to the assitance lady who helped that single mom. Don't know how it is in other countries but apparently they practically screw over and spit at their applicants the same as in germany. When my mom had me she had very little income and the social worker not only was barely any help but repeatedly made her feel just awful to the verge of tears. I get it must be a tough job with many harsh lersonal stories, crazies, liers and scammers but damn so many things they do to people directly or indirectly are so far from okay they're borderline criminal.
RE: Tests, I used to work with our local job center and yeah, the first person serving OP dropped the ball. The job center is supposed to get you into childcare assistance immediately.
Yep, though sometimes the bad boss isn't a direct supervisor it's corporate policy crap. I quit one retail job I loved most parts of, because the pay wasn't enough to move out of my parents' house and there was zero way my legitimately awesome manager would be allowed to offer me a big enough raise to keep me (it would have taken a bump from $9.50ish/hour to $15+). I told her that politely in my "two weeks notice" meeting... she understood and admitted that I was right. Literally no non-management staff in that company at the time made that much, and management wasn't an option for me. That boost in pay and mediocre healthcare benefits wouldn't have been enough (in my opinion) to compensate for the exponentially increased workload, guaranteed messed up sleep schedule, being on call 24/7, and corporate pressure to meet various quotas.
I used to throw newspapers on a rural route. In Texas, if a residential street doesn't have a posted speed limit, then it's speed limit is 30mph. This one lady flagged me down to yell at me for going too fast and I might run over her kids. I was driving 15 because I had a lot of papers on this street, and *it was 2AM*. I told her to teach her kids not to play in the street so early in the morning and she won't have a problem. She started throwing rocks at me afterwards. I told my boss I was skipping that street and if any of the customers complained they weren't getting their papers, then it was the Karen's fault for throwing rocks at the delivery person. One night My boss pulled me aside and told me the customers said I could come deliver their papers now because they had the witch arrested!
If i was a restaurant manager and one of my employees called in sick, I would just say "ok. get better soon" because I will NOT risk getting customers sick like that.
Story one: I had a similar incident in the very ER I worked in. I had come in as a patient due to a twenty hour period of convulsive regurgitation, part of an illness I dealt with for several years. The intern told the nurse (remember I worked with these people) prescribed Gravol and, when I told him I that we had already tried Gravol without results he replied, "Nonsense!" and ordered the nurse to give me Gravol. So she gave me Gravol. Sadly, I continued to throw up every minute or so. Twenty minutes later the idiot doctor was standing by my stretcher, so I leaned over, pulled his lab coat over and puked in his pocket! Gravol does not work on gastroparesis.
The boss expecting an employee to make a 3 hour commute is absolutely insane. If you want to keep an employee in that situation you offer to pay to help relocate them closer to the office.
I worked at USPS (way back when) and any time I called in sick the first thing I would hear was something like "Well I'm not a doctor but you better come in." lol, What the hell is sick leave for if you can't actually use it. The last job I had, (I'm retired now) was in IT/IS for Tacoma community college. The first time I showed up to work being sick the boss told me to go home. Nothing would collapse if I wasn't there. This was a HUGE difference from just about every other job i've had. I Loved that place and the people I worked with.
I will never understand people who go absolutely above and beyond by denying themselves basic necessities in order to save a company some extra money. Money you are completely entitled to use. If its not directly tied to your own year end bonus or something why tf would you decide to be frugal on on a company credit card that your are allowed to use???
For story 1 the easiest way to get food poisoning is from not washing the rind of a watermelon and then cutting through it (which is effectively dragging salmonella through the entire melon if it does have bacteria/food poisoning) the 2nd easiest way to get food poisoning is on cooked rice that has been in the fridge for too long or in the open for too long. THEN seafood, THEN chicken & white meat. Someone who works in the restaurant industry should know that, my family has owned a restaurant forever and my mother (a dietitian & red seal chef) taught me that you’re 3x more likely to get sick from rice & unclean melon than you are from white meat.
Story 1: I had something very similar happen to me, my boss told me I have to come in or I would be fired, literally 5 mins after I show up, I projectile vomit on my manager and a costumer and pass out, I got an apology and 5 days off paid

I am the manager at a restaurant. If someone wants to take a day off, I give it to them without asking why. I mean I do ask why but that's cause I like my team and want to know they're okay, but my point is if a team member wants to play hookie for the day I genuinely don't care, take the day off. The first story- I was a waitress for 4 years, I can confirm. I messaged my boss at 3am and said if he didn’t believe me then I had photos. My sister got it in the neck because I was supposedly “unnecessarily rude”, he was a narcissist and would have tried guilt-tripping me if I’d done it any other way. He’s literally guilt tripped me when I’ve been SICK AT WORK (for not telling anyone- I COULDN’T TALK)
And an experienced social workers have the additional benefit to know when to cut corners a little. Like in this case getting OP child care before she had gone through all the bureaucratic hoops. They often have a lot of knowledge of other opportunities, like volunteer based charities that can be helpful with different things.
i wish that were true. some of the ones i've dealt with seem to take joy in making people jump through hoops, or setting up people to fail. i had one social worker who insisted i had to be to his office (on the opposite side of the river) at 11:45. the busses only ran on the hour at 11:30, meaning it was next to impossible to get there on time without wasting several extra hours.
You are blessed to have met great social workers. The ones I have met are lying bullies and made me loose respect for them. Perhaps it also makes a difference which setting they work in eg. education, healthcare, government, CFS.

first story reminds me of when I worked retail and was literally leaking from my asshole with a 102 fever for two days in December because I got a stomach bug. My at the time fiance worked there as well, and had the same virus the previous weekend. I went to call in and my manager was like "I can't believe this, we NEED you to run the front counter! You cashiers are always looking for excuses to not work!" Sooo I went in, wearing underwear and pants I really didn't care about. And lo and behold, 5 minutes into my shift I call her up to the front to cover the register because I shit myself and had to go home. Some Karen of a guy who ironically looked like Santa started screaming because "this is the worst customer service ever!" because he had to stand in line for 10 minutes since there was a Christmas rush and like two thirds of front end was college students having finals week, or sick. I was supposed to cover up there because we were that low on cashiers. After I left, there was the manager and one cashier ringing. And the manager had to run the service counter specifically, because that one cashier was hard of hearing and couldn't answer the phones. Made the sick a little better knowing I personally forced her to work that hellstation while I went home to sleep for 12 hours. I don't miss retail at all. I'm so happy I have a job with sick time now where no one asks questions, they just go "yep, you're good, feel better!" and don't ask for details lmao.
That last story wasn't malicious compliance, it was just normal compliance. No one said he had to go out of his way to save the company money. Travel policies exists to keep you as comfortable as possible while still making a profit because it's heck of a lot cheaper than replacing employees who quit from bad travel experiences. They expect you to get the decent rental car and stay in the normal hotels. So hun skimping on those things caused him to be miserable, strain the relationship with his boss, and write this post, which is exactly what travel policies are designed to avoid. Just follow policy dude.
My friend died from MS, ín the 8 years i knew her she only ever had about 6 visitors apart from me. She died alone during lock down, no visiting allowed, her only reorientation, a sister, didn't even call the hospital to see how she was. The day after she died, her sister and 6 other woman were emptying her house, and 12 people turned up to the funeral. It sickened me so much that i didn't go to the funeral tea afterwards in case i was compelled to punch someone in the mouth.
As a waitress, the second story was very satisfying! If you don't have a booking (especially for a table that large), we cannot let you in even if there are "free" tables.

Referring to the child support payments. This was years ago. I was voluntarily paying say $400 per month. My ex who was and is a totally selfish and cruel person blindsided me with court papers to show up to pay more. We were several states apart. And of course she would fight me everytime I wanted to spend the court ordered time with my kids with whom I was very very close. The court changed locations without telling me. So I never got to attend the court appearance. But this judge ordered the court to deduct the monthly payments directly from my paycheck instead of me sending a check every month. I then had to start paying $250 per month per court order. Ok your honor. Snicker. I'll gladly comply. I was a teacher and she had a high paying job in another industry. She showed me!!
Oh god, expenses policies! I've had some run-ins with those in the past that I'm glad my current job doesn't require me to go anywhere. One time, I got a first class train ticket which, for reasons best known to the train company, was cheaper on this particular journey than the standard class by almost half, and I got roasted because the policy stated "cheapest ticket available", but also said first class travel was only for senior management and above. Because I'd set off early enough, I qualified for reimbursement for breakfast, which I got for free in first class, and with that added on, I'd saved them over half what I would've paid. I told them all of this and they reluctantly waved it through, then added in a clause for first class travel if it was cheapest. Another time, I was staying at a hotel. I didn't want to eat in the restaurant on my own and I wasn't especially hungry as I'd had a long day and was too tired to wait for food, so I ordered a sandwich on room service, then discovered they had some blockbuster movies on the pay per view (no, not the pr0n stuff!) so I ordered that too. I was told pay per view wasn't allowed. I asked why this wasn't appropriate when I could've just drank my food allowance (as one of my colleagues used to do) and that was fine, and I was told that rules are rules. So after that, I'd order right up to my allowance, even if I didn't want it. There was another policy that I ran up against at a different company - I could claim up to £30 for an evening meal when I was travelling away, but only for overnight stays, and they didn't pay for lunches. So I'd spend some money on lunch, then get something cheaper for my evening meal and claim the lot. Oh no, not allowed, it had to be on one receipt. Fantastic. But then one of my colleagues explained to me how I could work the system: He took me to this cheap Chinese restaurant where the bill for both of us came to just under £30 and he paid for us both. He said I could use my £30 for something else and claim it for that meal, and that I could return the favour some time. Then he told me that, as long as the money spent was all on one receipt, I could buy my meal from anywhere, even if it was clearly a couple of "meal deal" sandwiches from a local supermarket. The hotel had a mini fridge, so I could keep the food for my lunch in that. And then he told me about the £5 per day per-diem expenses that could be claimed regardless of whether I spent it or not. In the seven years following that, I don't think I ever paid for a single meal out of my own pocket!
The „Slow down“ story: As I know this quite well (explanation below), either the OP actively hit the break to go even slower or exaggerated how slow he went - idling in first gear results in a speed of approximately 8 to 12 kmph or 5 to 7.5 mph, not 1 mph. So if he really went by at 1 mph, the mother was absolutely right that he was going suspiciously slow. Plus, might I add, going at 15 mph (which is 24 kmph) in a street you know kids are playing can also be rightfully deemed as dangerous (this being one reason why traffic calmed zones are a common thing in Germany, see below). Compare this: Assuming a reaction time of just one second (which is fair, but can vary greatly from person to person and even day to day), at a speed of 8 kmph (5 mph) you come to a complete stop after 2.47 meters (about 8‘1‘‘), at 30 kmph (19 mph), we‘re talking 11.88 meters to a full stop (12 yd 3 ft), with over 8 meters (nearly 9 yd) at full speed during the 1 second with the 2.47 meters being reached after just .3 seconds at full speed. Even if you manage to break after only .3 seconds, it will take you still 6.04 meters (6 yd 1 ft 9.6 in) to come to stop. So, basically, I personally don‘t consider the mom entirely unreasonable in this situation. At all. Explanation: In Germany, there is a special rule (marked by a blue rectangular sign at all entrances that features a house, a kid, a ball, a car and an adult, if you want to look it up, it‘s road sign 325.1 in the official German road sign catalogue - exits to those areas are the same sign, crossed once with a red strip) called „Verkehrsberuhigter Bereich“, traffic-calmed zone, (many call it „playing street“, but though this does also exist it‘s a different sign, and a similar, but different rule set and rather rare). In those zones there are a few very distinct rules. Firstly, you may only drive „walking speed“, which in practice means 8-10 kmph (5-6 mph) or simply idling in first gear while being ready to break at all times (btw, the walking speed rule also applies to bikes). Secondly, there is no sidewalk, even if road markings might imply otherwise. Foot traffic has priority in this area and may not be impeded. Thirdly, there‘s no roadside parking outside marked spots. Finally, within such a zone (which can be more than just one road, like I said, the rules are in effect from passing sign 325.1 and the crossed out version sign 325.2), there are no priority roads (which means there’s automatically priority-to-the-right in effect) AND when exiting it at a junction, you have to automatically give way (without a separate give way to stop sign). There‘s a bit more to it than that, but those are the most important rules. I find this rule rather nice. The street I grew up in became such a street when I was a kid (used to be a cul-de-sac, but they connected it through to another street for more development and at the same time made the whole former and new part traffic calmed), and it worked great in general. It is, however, probably the most ignored road sign in Germany, especially the „idle in first gear“ part - in some areas one can be lucky if cars slow down to 30 kmph (19 mph, standard speed limit within city proper - which marked by distinct yellow signs, official sign code is 385, with the town‘s name on it is 50 kmph or 30 mph). But nonetheless, generally it works, and people are more prepared for kids suddenly running into the road in those areas. I must admit, I also often don‘t exactly idle in first gear, but if I have a butthole behind me, I make an effort to follow the law to a tee… Also, you learn about this in driving school (getting your driver‘s licence in Germany is an expensive, around 2000 EUR or around 2200 Dollars, and requires both mandatory theory and practical driving lessons with a certified instructor plus both a written - well, multiple choice - and practical exam with a certified examiner), and it‘s a common „trap“ for examiners to lead you into a traffic calmed zone (A little anecdote: my examiner had me drive through my own street, and had me look for a place to park within it. Looking for an appropriate spot and parking within certain perimeters is also a required skill in the practical exam. There were no free marked spots, so I just pulled in on the spot in front of my parents‘ garage - imagine a row of 6 single-car garages with an open area long enough for another vehicle in front of them, this is privately owned - and parked. Then I turned to the examiner, who looked annoyed and ready to fail me - my instructor next to me [yes the instructor sits next to you in the exam, in the official driving school vehicle with extra sets of pedals on his side, in exam situations, there is an alarm in place: If the instructor has to break at any point, you‘ve instantly failed] grinned as he has dropped me at home several times after lessons. I told the examiner: „Well, you told me to look for a place to park the car. As there were no road side spots available, and this is my, or rather my parents‘, property, I chose this one as a safe and - for me - legal option.“ I passed.)

I see a lot of stories where people post: "I was sick but my boss didn't believe it and wanted me to come in" But...remember... some people will abuse sick days and such to get money for not working. And last minute sick days are TERRIBLE for bosses and other employees especially if they are short staffed. In these stories however.. some bosses go too far...but trust when I say.. we all once called sick in to school or such to avoid going there for several reasons. Just wanted to add where this dumb mentality comes from and why a lot of bad managers that have almost no staff around tend to threaten their sick employees to come into work.. cause suddenly that manager has to work twice as hard... and some of them don't work so yea... This is the most likely story to happen. Dumb managers that have trouble keeping staff , forcing their sick people to come into work and well... cause issues. My sister-in-law has primary custody of her autistic son, so her ex pays child support. She had custody for over 8 years when he sued for primary custody over an argument for gas reimbursement so the son can go to a school closer to his dad. The problem was that over the years the ex never reported his increases in wages to the state, so he was paying the same amount he had been since the first custody hearing. The suite automatically triggers an audit of income and the ex was informed that he owed over $10k in back child support! The ex agreed to settle the custody out of court with my SIL retaining custody. He was still forced to pay an increase monthly support by the state to align with his income.

A quick thing to mention here, a good boss would use that conversation to talk about the policies.
Those policies matter, you are a representative of that company. If you drive around in a terrible car and live in horrible hotels, what would the customers think? That the company is either poor and their product is shit, or that they have terrible work conditions and thus a high turnover rate(which often also means lower quality products).
The company has those regulations to give you the standard that the company wants to represent themselves as. You can quite often go over budget if it means sealing a high value deal.
Don't save the company money on policies unless it's a mom and pop store, they already earn enough from you working for them, the least they can do is make you appear representable

There are a lot of government assistance workers that care... I do think many get broken by the amount of bad people unfortunately.
There are a lot of people who care, but the system they have to use is designed to be putative. Having to enforce purposefully shaming and degrading conditions on people you want to help breaks the people who want to help, and they become very cynical and jaded pretty fast. My sister worked for Maine Care support for like 5 years (would still be doing it now except she's in full renal failure and spends like 15hrs a week in dialysis now). She liked the job but it took its toll on her mind.
In my experience, these two types of people exist whether in government or private enterprise. Some are just punching a clock and collecting a paycheck while others actually want to help.
I’m so tired of hearing people talk about how so many people are “living off the system” when every single person I know who has received benefits had to fight like hell for it. And still got screwed over. My wife didn’t get maternity leave because she worked as a substitute teacher. Couldn’t get unemployment back pay. I once missed 10 working days after a surgery and temporary disability sent me $134… ten days. 8 hours. $21 an hour equals $134? I also have several friends who relied on benefits. The poor lady who was told she had to show up child free on less than 24 hours notice when she told them she’s a single mother with nobody to watch them is beyond ridiculous.

Unfortunately its because of how many people are living off the system (that shouldn't be) that its so hard for people that genuinely need it. My aunt gets 2k from disability for a disability she doesn't have. She claims to have migraines but I can't remember the last time she's had a migraine. I remember several years ago when she had to recertify her disability she was freaking out because she couldn't find a doc that was willing to sign off on her disability as they all knew the 2 migraines she was getting a year wasn't enough for it to be considered. She finally found a sketchy doc that agreed to and he has since lost his license due to inappropriate behavior with nurses and patients!

When my late husband's sister had to go on assistance after her divorce from her abusive husband & was mad at us because my late husband wouldn't give her a bunch of money again without speaking to me as he did a couple of times before (I wanted to go over her finances with her, help her make a budget & a plan to get her out of the hole she was in so she wouldn't keep demanding money from us & she'd be okay herself), I saw how bad things were if you needed assistance. Sadly, we even live in a very progressive state with help that's better than most so idk how anyone does it in other states. Imo it makes way more sense to me to let people claim reasonable bills related to survival (food, lodging & career expenses) against their income to qualify for assistance & to allow a small grace period where we still give them all the assistance they qualified for before their income increased so they can actually crawl out of needing it altogether. I'd even not be opposed to either giving them a small lump sum for debt relief or a year of small payments, or direct payments to debtors on their behalf & to pay for them to take a debt relief/financial planning course so they'd have the opportunity to finally get to a place where they'll not be living on the edge & they'll, ideally, never need assistance again. Imo spending a bit more upfront to make someone self-sufficient is a reasonable way to solve this issue permanently & thus would actually save money in the long run.
What most people don't realize is that it's actually way more expensive to be poor than it is to be comfortable or rich in the US. I get way more favorable terms than my late husband's sister does at almost every place I do business. My phone bill is cheaper since I don't need to finance our phones & my credit score & payment history makes me a more desirable customer for Verizon so a new phone is offered to me at a steep discount every 2 years whereas she has to finance the whole amount for her family's phones & pay a deposit to start with. I pay my car insurance a year at a time so, even for full coverage on my 5 year old luxury SUV, I pay less overall for the year than she pays for her 15 year old basic sedan as she has to pay monthly & she has a worse credit score than I do. I pay almost $400 less a year for full coverage compared to her paying only for liability insurance on her car costs her more. I fill my propane tank in the early summer when the price is at the best it'll be for the year here. She's still catching up from having to have them come put in the minimum they'll put in at once several times that previous winter, when the price per gallon is at it's highest. My bank & credit card companies give me very favorable interest & perks. She gets none of that & has to pay them if her account balance goes below $100. My house was purchased in cash back in 2009 when housing prices were at their lowest in the last 2 decades where I live. I have no mortgage. She had to rent a place as she couldn't afford to buy. Rent here for a much smaller living space is higher than my mortgage payments would have been, had I needed to have one. My homeowners insurance & taxes are the only things I pay to live in my 5 bed, 2.5 bath, 2 story house over a basement with 3 car detached garage with a 6 foot wide storage shed attached to the garage that runs the whole length on the back of it on 3 city lots on the water. Those bills for my house come to about $625 a month. She pays $1,800 a month in rent & will have no equity for her troubles at the end. My groceries are even cheaper because I can buy in bulk, order sustainable meat as a whole cow, pig or order chickens in advance from a nearby organic farm & send it to the butcher myself to store it in my freezer to avoid paying grocery store meat prices or I can wait for sales to buy most of my food as I've purchased in bulk. She has to purchase as needed, no matter the price at the time & doesn't have much freezer space so stocking up isn't a thing she can do.
I can afford to pay more than she can for everything but in almost every circumstance, it's her who is charged more for basic services. Reagan tried to sell everyone on trickle down economics but he & the people who paid for our politicians always meant for as much money as possible to trickle up to make rich people richer. Story number one 😂 When I had back surgery as a teenager, my recovery was difficult. Whenever the nurse would roll me over onto my right side, I would 🤮 But I had to be constantly rotated to avoid sores, so she would roll me to my left, then onto my back, then the left again. But one night, I got a new nurse. A real KAREN. She went to roll me over onto my right side. I told her, “You can’t roll me onto that side. I’ll throw up.” She got snotty and said, “That’s ridiculous!” Then she rolled me onto my right side, directly towards her. @@MizuMing It's not exactly an honest presentation of the issue. Yes, the US uses disinfectants on chicken, at concentrations and amounts that are perfectly safe for later human consumption[1]. The issue some nations have with it is that it is used as a substitute for proper farming practices so that the chicken which misses the disinfecting wash is more likely to contain pathogens.
[1] You'll get far more of a dose going for a swim in a typical pool.

I wasn't really conscious of it, but when you're sick it just comes out. Apparently my dad's logic is that if you barf on their shoes, they can't deny you're sick, and that manager sure can't deny it either.)

I developed a deep respect for sys admins, when at my company once by accident I got assigned the phone number of one of our sys admins. Someone must 've mixed up two digits in a registry, and the calls got rerouted to my phone. The clients were vile. Within the 15 mins or so that it took for me to find time between calls to report the phone mixup, and someone to find and fix the mistake, I'd been insulted, yelled at, hung up on and threatened by several callers. The most infuriating part was - it was obvious they were angry about problems of their own making, but I had to stay professional and play nice.
Those few calls got me so angry, I wanted to strangle someone lol. I wouldn't be able to handle a day of this, much less have a career where this is daily business.
Story 3: anyone who’s never had to reach for public assistance has no idea how common this is 🙄 there are MANY barriers to getting the help we all pay taxes for, and one of the biggest is prejudice from public workers.
Several years ago, while employed full time as a taxi driver, and still reduced to living in a converted van parked at a friend's house, I applied to Brunswick County Social Services for food stamps. The woman who took my application looked me in the face and said "You're a white male with no children, you can't have food stamps." I was pissed enough to ask her how many out of wedlock babies I needed to make a meatloaf.
I would say, blame the people who live off of those same goods and services when they do not need too.
I know multiple families, single people, and just out right bums who lie - cheat - and bribe their way into getting all benefits from the workplace and government. One person I saw even went so far as to have a doctor friend of theirs hook them up with fake documentation at aocal clinic. Would go in, sit in the waiting room, get called in, chat with their friends in the furthest room in the back, and then leave knowing they will get another several grand for the next few months to live off of.
There are scum and slime who clog up the system that wants to do good for the people. So it is no surprise many go through absolute extremes to weed out the bad ones. Cause you can't do it before hand.

One day we're notified that he wants to pay less child support since he see's his son more often in the past several months, so should have to pay less. So I helped my gf add up all the days which was easy since she had made her son an Instagram profile and uploaded daily. Turns out he was actually spending less time with his son in recent months, so child support went up lol

This makes me thankful that the fast food place I used to work had a pretty strict policy (company-wide, might I add) that if you had *any* signs of a stomach problem you were not allowed to work. Anyway, I'm sorry that your boss made you work when you were sick. It should be illegal to make people in any food service work when they have stomach issues, especially since that could potentially contaminate the food going out to customers, let alone it being dangerous to the person who is sick.

That last story is one of many on this channel in which OP is careful of their employer’s travel expense allowances, something out of the ordinary happens and OP gets chewed out for some minor violation, and OP responds by maxing out the expense allowance! I just love it!!

As someone who occasionally travels who businesses, that last story is absolutely hilarious. I always use the max per diem and get the max for anything the company will pay for - after all, it doesn’t usually come directly out of their pocket because they pass the cost on to the client. Nobody ever give you bonus points for “saving the company money”.
My thoughts exactly. Travel allowances are designed to keep employees happy. Skimping, getting mad when they don't let you break policy, and then no longer skimping isn't malicious compliance. Dude is going to angry quit and cost the company 20x more replacing him than if he would travel in comfort and be happy - and he will have cause all of the strain by himself.
Mad respect to the assitance lady who helped that single mom. Don't know how it is in other countries but apparently they practically screw over and spit at their applicants the same as in germany. When my mom had me she had very little income and the social worker not only was barely any help but repeatedly made her feel just awful to the verge of tears. I get it must be a tough job with many harsh lersonal stories, crazies, liers and scammers but damn so many things they do to people directly or indirectly are so far from okay they're borderline criminal.
RE: Tests, I used to work with our local job center and yeah, the first person serving OP dropped the ball. The job center is supposed to get you into childcare assistance immediately.

Yep, though sometimes the bad boss isn't a direct supervisor it's corporate policy crap. I quit one retail job I loved most parts of, because the pay wasn't enough to move out of my parents' house and there was zero way my legitimately awesome manager would be allowed to offer me a big enough raise to keep me (it would have taken a bump from $9.50ish/hour to $15+). I told her that politely in my "two weeks notice" meeting... she understood and admitted that I was right.
Literally no non-management staff in that company at the time made that much, and management wasn't an option for me. That boost in pay and mediocre healthcare benefits wouldn't have been enough (in my opinion) to compensate for the exponentially increased workload, guaranteed messed up sleep schedule, being on call 24/7, and corporate pressure to meet various quotas.

I used to throw newspapers on a rural route. In Texas, if a residential street doesn't have a posted speed limit, then it's speed limit is 30mph. This one lady flagged me down to yell at me for going too fast and I might run over her kids. I was driving 15 because I had a lot of papers on this street, and *it was 2AM*. I told her to teach her kids not to play in the street so early in the morning and she won't have a problem. She started throwing rocks at me afterwards. I told my boss I was skipping that street and if any of the customers complained they weren't getting their papers, then it was the Karen's fault for throwing rocks at the delivery person.
One night My boss pulled me aside and told me the customers said I could come deliver their papers now because they had the witch arrested!

Story one: I had a similar incident in the very ER I worked in. I had come in as a patient due to a twenty hour period of convulsive regurgitation, part of an illness I dealt with for several years. The intern told the nurse (remember I worked with these people) prescribed Gravol and, when I told him I that we had already tried Gravol without results he replied, "Nonsense!" and ordered the nurse to give me Gravol. So she gave me Gravol. Sadly, I continued to throw up every minute or so.
Twenty minutes later the idiot doctor was standing by my stretcher, so I leaned over, pulled his lab coat over and puked in his pocket! Gravol does not work on gastroparesis.

I worked at USPS (way back when) and any time I called in sick the first thing I would hear was something like "Well I'm not a doctor but you better come in." lol, What the hell is sick leave for if you can't actually use it. The last job I had, (I'm retired now) was in IT/IS for Tacoma community college. The first time I showed up to work being sick the boss told me to go home. Nothing would collapse if I wasn't there. This was a HUGE difference from just about every other job i've had. I Loved that place and the people I worked with.
I will never understand people who go absolutely above and beyond by denying themselves basic necessities in order to save a company some extra money. Money you are completely entitled to use. If its not directly tied to your own year end bonus or something why tf would you decide to be frugal on on a company credit card that your are allowed to use???

For story 1 the easiest way to get food poisoning is from not washing the rind of a watermelon and then cutting through it (which is effectively dragging salmonella through the entire melon if it does have bacteria/food poisoning) the 2nd easiest way to get food poisoning is on cooked rice that has been in the fridge for too long or in the open for too long. THEN seafood, THEN chicken & white meat. Someone who works in the restaurant industry should know that, my family has owned a restaurant forever and my mother (a dietitian & red seal chef) taught me that you’re 3x more likely to get sick from rice & unclean melon than you are from white meat.
Story 1: I had something very similar happen to me, my boss told me I have to come in or I would be fired, literally 5 mins after I show up, I projectile vomit on my manager and a costumer and pass out, I got an apology and 5 days off paid

And an experienced social workers have the additional benefit to know when to cut corners a little. Like in this case getting OP child care before she had gone through all the bureaucratic hoops. They often have a lot of knowledge of other opportunities, like volunteer based charities that can be helpful with different things.
i wish that were true. some of the ones i've dealt with seem to take joy in making people jump through hoops, or setting up people to fail. i had one social worker who insisted i had to be to his office (on the opposite side of the river) at 11:45. the busses only ran on the hour at 11:30, meaning it was next to impossible to get there on time without wasting several extra hours.
You are blessed to have met great social workers. The ones I have met are lying bullies and made me loose respect for them. Perhaps it also makes a difference which setting they work in eg. education, healthcare, government, CFS.

first story reminds me of when I worked retail and was literally leaking from my asshole with a 102 fever for two days in December because I got a stomach bug. My at the time fiance worked there as well, and had the same virus the previous weekend. I went to call in and my manager was like "I can't believe this, we NEED you to run the front counter! You cashiers are always looking for excuses to not work!" Sooo I went in, wearing underwear and pants I really didn't care about. And lo and behold, 5 minutes into my shift I call her up to the front to cover the register because I shit myself and had to go home. Some Karen of a guy who ironically looked like Santa started screaming because "this is the worst customer service ever!" because he had to stand in line for 10 minutes since there was a Christmas rush and like two thirds of front end was college students having finals week, or sick. I was supposed to cover up there because we were that low on cashiers. After I left, there was the manager and one cashier ringing. And the manager had to run the service counter specifically, because that one cashier was hard of hearing and couldn't answer the phones. Made the sick a little better knowing I personally forced her to work that hellstation while I went home to sleep for 12 hours.
I don't miss retail at all. I'm so happy I have a job with sick time now where no one asks questions, they just go "yep, you're good, feel better!" and don't ask for details lmao.
That last story wasn't malicious compliance, it was just normal compliance. No one said he had to go out of his way to save the company money.
Travel policies exists to keep you as comfortable as possible while still making a profit because it's heck of a lot cheaper than replacing employees who quit from bad travel experiences. They expect you to get the decent rental car and stay in the normal hotels. So hun skimping on those things caused him to be miserable, strain the relationship with his boss, and write this post, which is exactly what travel policies are designed to avoid. Just follow policy dude.
My friend died from MS, ín the 8 years i knew her she only ever had about 6 visitors apart from me. She died alone during lock down, no visiting allowed, her only reorientation, a sister, didn't even call the hospital to see how she was. The day after she died, her sister and 6 other woman were emptying her house, and 12 people turned up to the funeral. It sickened me so much that i didn't go to the funeral tea afterwards in case i was compelled to punch someone in the mouth.
As a waitress, the second story was very satisfying! If you don't have a booking (especially for a table that large), we cannot let you in even if there are "free" tables.

Referring to the child support payments. This was years ago. I was voluntarily paying say $400 per month. My ex who was and is a totally selfish and cruel person blindsided me with court papers to show up to pay more. We were several states apart. And of course she would fight me everytime I wanted to spend the court ordered time with my kids with whom I was very very close. The court changed locations without telling me. So I never got to attend the court appearance. But this judge ordered the court to deduct the monthly payments directly from my paycheck instead of me sending a check every month. I then had to start paying $250 per month per court order. Ok your honor. Snicker. I'll gladly comply. I was a teacher and she had a high paying job in another industry. She showed me!!
Oh god, expenses policies! I've had some run-ins with those in the past that I'm glad my current job doesn't require me to go anywhere.
One time, I got a first class train ticket which, for reasons best known to the train company, was cheaper on this particular journey than the standard class by almost half, and I got roasted because the policy stated "cheapest ticket available", but also said first class travel was only for senior management and above. Because I'd set off early enough, I qualified for reimbursement for breakfast, which I got for free in first class, and with that added on, I'd saved them over half what I would've paid. I told them all of this and they reluctantly waved it through, then added in a clause for first class travel if it was cheapest.
Another time, I was staying at a hotel. I didn't want to eat in the restaurant on my own and I wasn't especially hungry as I'd had a long day and was too tired to wait for food, so I ordered a sandwich on room service, then discovered they had some blockbuster movies on the pay per view (no, not the pr0n stuff!) so I ordered that too. I was told pay per view wasn't allowed. I asked why this wasn't appropriate when I could've just drank my food allowance (as one of my colleagues used to do) and that was fine, and I was told that rules are rules. So after that, I'd order right up to my allowance, even if I didn't want it.
There was another policy that I ran up against at a different company - I could claim up to £30 for an evening meal when I was travelling away, but only for overnight stays, and they didn't pay for lunches. So I'd spend some money on lunch, then get something cheaper for my evening meal and claim the lot. Oh no, not allowed, it had to be on one receipt. Fantastic. But then one of my colleagues explained to me how I could work the system: He took me to this cheap Chinese restaurant where the bill for both of us came to just under £30 and he paid for us both. He said I could use my £30 for something else and claim it for that meal, and that I could return the favour some time. Then he told me that, as long as the money spent was all on one receipt, I could buy my meal from anywhere, even if it was clearly a couple of "meal deal" sandwiches from a local supermarket. The hotel had a mini fridge, so I could keep the food for my lunch in that. And then he told me about the £5 per day per-diem expenses that could be claimed regardless of whether I spent it or not. In the seven years following that, I don't think I ever paid for a single meal out of my own pocket!
The „Slow down“ story:
As I know this quite well (explanation below), either the OP actively hit the break to go even slower or exaggerated how slow he went - idling in first gear results in a speed of approximately 8 to 12 kmph or 5 to 7.5 mph, not 1 mph. So if he really went by at 1 mph, the mother was absolutely right that he was going suspiciously slow. Plus, might I add, going at 15 mph (which is 24 kmph) in a street you know kids are playing can also be rightfully deemed as dangerous (this being one reason why traffic calmed zones are a common thing in Germany, see below). Compare this: Assuming a reaction time of just one second (which is fair, but can vary greatly from person to person and even day to day), at a speed of 8 kmph (5 mph) you come to a complete stop after 2.47 meters (about 8‘1‘‘), at 30 kmph (19 mph), we‘re talking 11.88 meters to a full stop (12 yd 3 ft), with over 8 meters (nearly 9 yd) at full speed during the 1 second with the 2.47 meters being reached after just .3 seconds at full speed. Even if you manage to break after only .3 seconds, it will take you still 6.04 meters (6 yd 1 ft 9.6 in) to come to stop. So, basically, I personally don‘t consider the mom entirely unreasonable in this situation. At all.
Explanation:
In Germany, there is a special rule (marked by a blue rectangular sign at all entrances that features a house, a kid, a ball, a car and an adult, if you want to look it up, it‘s road sign 325.1 in the official German road sign catalogue - exits to those areas are the same sign, crossed once with a red strip) called „Verkehrsberuhigter Bereich“, traffic-calmed zone, (many call it „playing street“, but though this does also exist it‘s a different sign, and a similar, but different rule set and rather rare). In those zones there are a few very distinct rules. Firstly, you may only drive „walking speed“, which in practice means 8-10 kmph (5-6 mph) or simply idling in first gear while being ready to break at all times (btw, the walking speed rule also applies to bikes). Secondly, there is no sidewalk, even if road markings might imply otherwise. Foot traffic has priority in this area and may not be impeded. Thirdly, there‘s no roadside parking outside marked spots. Finally, within such a zone (which can be more than just one road, like I said, the rules are in effect from passing sign 325.1 and the crossed out version sign 325.2), there are no priority roads (which means there’s automatically priority-to-the-right in effect) AND when exiting it at a junction, you have to automatically give way (without a separate give way to stop sign). There‘s a bit more to it than that, but those are the most important rules.
I find this rule rather nice. The street I grew up in became such a street when I was a kid (used to be a cul-de-sac, but they connected it through to another street for more development and at the same time made the whole former and new part traffic calmed), and it worked great in general. It is, however, probably the most ignored road sign in Germany, especially the „idle in first gear“ part - in some areas one can be lucky if cars slow down to 30 kmph (19 mph, standard speed limit within city proper - which marked by distinct yellow signs, official sign code is 385, with the town‘s name on it is 50 kmph or 30 mph). But nonetheless, generally it works, and people are more prepared for kids suddenly running into the road in those areas. I must admit, I also often don‘t exactly idle in first gear, but if I have a butthole behind me, I make an effort to follow the law to a tee… Also, you learn about this in driving school (getting your driver‘s licence in Germany is an expensive, around 2000 EUR or around 2200 Dollars, and requires both mandatory theory and practical driving lessons with a certified instructor plus both a written - well, multiple choice - and practical exam with a certified examiner), and it‘s a common „trap“ for examiners to lead you into a traffic calmed zone (A little anecdote: my examiner had me drive through my own street, and had me look for a place to park within it. Looking for an appropriate spot and parking within certain perimeters is also a required skill in the practical exam. There were no free marked spots, so I just pulled in on the spot in front of my parents‘ garage - imagine a row of 6 single-car garages with an open area long enough for another vehicle in front of them, this is privately owned - and parked. Then I turned to the examiner, who looked annoyed and ready to fail me - my instructor next to me [yes the instructor sits next to you in the exam, in the official driving school vehicle with extra sets of pedals on his side, in exam situations, there is an alarm in place: If the instructor has to break at any point, you‘ve instantly failed] grinned as he has dropped me at home several times after lessons. I told the examiner: „Well, you told me to look for a place to park the car. As there were no road side spots available, and this is my, or rather my parents‘, property, I chose this one as a safe and - for me - legal option.“ I passed.)

The guy who I scared as a child has kicked his own mother out of her bed room, doesn’t pay rent and him, his boyfriend and the dog live in the main house while the mother had a partition in the living room as her bed room. Plus she’s started coming to church with black eyes and bruises on her face. Ryan is about to get the full psycho treatment from me if he doesn’t quit that shit.

I see a lot of stories where people post: "I was sick but my boss didn't believe it and wanted me to come in"
But...remember... some people will abuse sick days and such to get money for not working. And last minute sick days are TERRIBLE for bosses and other employees especially if they are short staffed. In these stories however.. some bosses go too far...but trust when I say.. we all once called sick in to school or such to avoid going there for several reasons.
Just wanted to add where this dumb mentality comes from and why a lot of bad managers that have almost no staff around tend to threaten their sick employees to come into work.. cause suddenly that manager has to work twice as hard... and some of them don't work so yea...
This is the most likely story to happen. Dumb managers that have trouble keeping staff , forcing their sick people to come into work and well... cause issues.
Anyway.. great video as always, but I think we just gotta admit managers saying: "I don't believe you are really sick or bring a doctor's note" is not a weird thought... but not a correct one!

Nobody appreciates the person that goes to work everyday and then when they suddenly have to go out sick they call to make sure that there's nothing else wrong. Cuz if you're dependable and liable and you go missing one day because of I don't know random abduction. They are able to say there's something wrong here.

People who work in the public sector so often get painted as lazy and overpaid. But most are just like the the one in OP's story, hard working and want to help. And the ones who do end up making large paychecks tend to be experts in their fields who could earn far more in the private sector.
What story two: the amount of time or distance travel to get somewhere is not anybody's f****** problem but your own. You traveling half an hour to get somewhere does not constitute special treatment.

My sister-in-law has primary custody of her autistic son, so her ex pays child support. She had custody for over 8 years when he sued for primary custody over an argument for gas reimbursement so the son can go to a school closer to his dad.
The problem was that over the years the ex never reported his increases in wages to the state, so he was paying the same amount he had been since the first custody hearing. The suite automatically triggers an audit of income and the ex was informed that he owed over $10k in back child support!
The ex agreed to settle the custody out of court with my SIL retaining custody. He was still forced to pay an increase monthly support by the state to align with his income.
Last story: sorry but OP was a doormat. Staying in seedy hotels in the shitty part of town and driving a rental that barely works just to save the company a few bucks? Come on.

The section on Tests sounds like how they do things in Nebraska. NE DHHS goes out of their way to find ways to disqualify people who need assistance, using every method possible to ensure that the methods they use don't make them look bad on national statistics. If the applicant can't get child care to do the tests, well then I guess they don't need the benefits. Application denied.

My mom works for DCF or the equivalent with a slightly different name and I too had to be on benefits when my kids were young and I was in school, never have I heard anyone with those agencies saying there was a free spot immediately for state childcare, there are always crazy long wait lists

I got forced to come into work sick once. I showed up and was obviously not well. I worked for about 30 minutes before my first bathroom run happened. I apparently was grey and drenched in sweat. I went home after the third bathroom run.

OP was underselling themselves, which saved the managers' money. They got greedy when they saw that break in the norm because in their heads it's "mine, mine, mine." Now they're confused as to why suddenly OP is not doing this service anymore since now there's no extra money for them to use.

12:26 reminds me of how my job had a bro/sis duo who did a specific role. They were amazing and everyone loved them (the brother even did occasional coffee runs for other staff members).
The siblings quit to pursue other business opportunities early this year and a team of 5 was hired to replace the 2 that left.
Its since been nonstop complaints from the staff (myself included) that these 5 suck and don't do nearly as good a job as the 2 they replaced.

That first story is accurate there was two times I got real sick and I called and told them but still insisted I come so I did then I started bleeding thru my mouth and nose if it wasn’t bad enough I was struggling keeping balance and I wasn’t about hear good either so obviously I messed up quite a few orders and got a walk out

I hate calling in sick due to feeling judged. I hade go do it a lot for a few months as I am pregnant..I feelt so bad about it that I decided to go on leave earely. Turns out that it was the right choice as my mental health has been up and down and my back has been killing me.
